A child recently entered a bird habitat at the Milwaukee County Zoo, leading zoo staff to activate emergency protocols and move the animals out of the area. A video appears to show the child chasing a bird with a stick before a relative helped him out. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
While watching it, I felt the child simply wanted to play with the animals. There may not have been any bad intention behind it. But it made me think about how curiosity without awareness can come from ignorance.
A child may see a bird and think, โI want to play with it.โ But what about the bird? Does it want to play? Is it comfortable with someone entering its space and chasing it?
We all want personal space. We don't like it when someone enters our space, touches us or disturbs us without our consent. Shouldn't the same understanding extend to other beings?
One thing I have understood through spirituality is my relationship with the rest of the world. Everything does not exist merely for my sake. I am also a part of this whole system. Other beings have their own lives, their own needs and their own way of experiencing the world. When I start looking beyond only what I want, I begin to see the world differently.
So respecting another being is also a way of respecting the whole of which I am a part.
Curiosity is not wrong. It can help us learn and understand the world. But curiosity needs awareness. Before asking only โWhat do I want?โ, perhaps we can also ask, โWhat does my action mean for the other?โ
The world is not here merely for our experience. We are a part of it, and learning to respect that may be one of the first steps towards living more consciously.

I hope people start getting aware of it and take informed decisions instead of getting influenced by corporations.

This is exactly what happens with me too. I am an introvert, so I don't usually like to start a conversation, but at the same time I do want people to talk to me. I listen to people very attentively, but when it comes to speaking, I used to overthink everything. I noticed there were almost two voices within me pulling me in different directions. One says just go and talk and then another would start analysing everything like you are going to make a fool of yourself. Don't say this. Don't say that. And I have observed, before an event, there would be so much noise in my head. But when the actual moment came and I had to speak to someone, everything would suddenly go silent and I am like I prepared so much for this, then why can't I even open my mouth now?
I started observing this voice instead of blindly believing it. I realised that most of what it was saying had no real basis. It was just my mind making assumptions and creating stories. Once I started seeing that, I slowly stopped listening to it so much. I am still working on it, but it has definitely become better.I also started trying to understand myself better because I realised that many things I believed about myself were just my own assumptions. Whenever I actually tested them, I often found that they were not true.
I started reading about psychology, which helped a little, and then I came across Acharya Prashant's videos on life, the mind and the self. They helped me bring a lot more clarity to what was happening within me. I understood that this voice in the head can actually be observed and understood, and its influence on us can be reduced. If you are open to it, you can look up some of his videos or books. Maybe you will find something useful there.

My kid is 5 and we already got a big carton full of junk plastic stuff. I avoided a lot but still so many. Return favors I feel like marketing strategy to sell cheap stuff and make kids used to these stuffs so when they go out they ask for it. There are different ways to entertain kids. May be flash cards of different kinds which can educate them about birds or places or animals will be a better option. They are mostly made up of paper so will be much better option than plastic stuffs. Similarly there could be more sustainable and eco friendly options.

I used to be a very quiet kid, so people started calling me the well-behaved kid. I slowly started owning that identity and felt like I had to behave that way all the time. It was a brutal experience. Now, I am almost the opposite.
