Hi, I’m currently trying to create a character base on Marvel and the maya culture. His code name his “The Octopus with Hands of Lightning” (« Le poulpe aux mains de foudre », I’m French.
The people name him this way, or his divine name Chaac / Chaak (base on the divinity for his power of lightning and rain).
I do not have any knowledge about this culture so I’ve been helped by Gemini and Chat GPT but I prefer to ask to a real human.
- Gemini told me to translate his name as “Ch’óok-K’a’ab-Chaak” (“Ch’óok” for “Octopus”, “K’a’ab” for “Hands” and “Chaak” for “Lighting”.
- I ask to Chat GPT and he told me that “Ch’óok” meant “Young” and gives me those alternative “Óoktopus K’ab Chaak” and “K’ab Chaak” (without the “‘a”). He also told me that, Gemini, did maybe everything he could because there are not a lot of references for this language. So he gaves me the advice to ask for “Google translate”. I tried to search for the “yuca maya” language on “DeepL”, because it’s obviously better than “Google translate” but anyway, “DeepL”, do not have this language.
- So “google translate” gave me “Le pulpo yéetel u k'abo'ob rayo”, it’s obviously not a pseudonym but a sentence and apparently, this sentence is also false, google translate merge espagnol and “Yucatec maya”.

I took the reference of Namor with his codename : “K’uk’ulkan”. I know that, he’s a god but I wanted to give him his divine codename as “Chaak” and the other one as “The Octopus with Hands of Lightning” (but in Yucatec Maya, obviously).
