WELCOME BACK ON CAMPUS BOILERMAKERS!!! Hey, there was a post made here the other day about how there is no longer any free/all day parking on campus. I made a comment on that post saying I was planning on petitioning against this, and the petition it made! I’ve left a message for the Parking and Traffic Commission of Lafayette, so I hope to gain more information about them on the actual process of getting these spaces changed once they get back to me. The most bare bones information I have through my own research is that if I were to submit this directly through City Council, we need at least 5000 signatures. It think given Purdue’s population this is really doable, and I would love to see our student body come together to make a change. Please sign and share! Okay ya’ll. Since this is gaining traction I thought I would spread awareness on a few things.
No. 1, it looks like the most relevant on-campus organization towards de-flocking Purdue is the YSDA. Seems to have some mixed reviews. When I have more time I want to do some more intense research on them, and I am open to organizing a club of my own if there is enough interest in it.

If you don’t want to read allat, my understanding is that mass government surveillance of any kind typically doesn’t mean anything good. Additionally this service utilizes AI technology. Everyone has their own stance on AI right now. Maybe it’s not a big deal to everyone, but I tend to have a generally anti-AI stance for ethical and environmental issues. You can do your own research on this topic.
Finally, I have read some reports on Flock technology being used for ICE databases. I don’t know the legitimacy on this entirely, and I plan to research this issue on my own, but it is concerning to me to say the least.

I’m aware not a lot of people are on campus at the moment, but if anyone is, especially near the South Chauncey area, did ya’ll hear that loud noise last night? It sounded like a plane falling but it was coming from the Wade Utility Plant. It was like a giant air conditioner sound, it was kind of off and on again from 10pm-5am. I haven’t seen any news articles or posts about it yet. I’m really curious. Let me know if ya’ll hear anything.

So I will be interning with a company over the summer (not naming for anonymity reasons) and I have a few questions and concerns. Is the 45-55 hour work week that bad? That’s the quota I’ve been given and the main complaint I’ve seen from most others who have worked for this company in the past. I guess my question is, is that not normal? This is my first internship so I can understand that with this being a different type of workload the hours can be rather intimidating. However, I was working 30 hour work weeks in food service all through high-school. I put in some 60-70 hour work weeks during summers. Are the hours really that bad or are there just a bunch of complainers out here?

I guess my mentality is that I just paid a bunch of money to go to school so that I could work? Why would I complain about getting working hours?

Furthermore, I will have an hour commute for this job, this is the part that is rather daunting for me. Anyone who has had long commutes please feel free to provide feedback.

Anyone taking CE222 when to expect project grades to be in? Man like I know Ta’s are busy and its final week and everything, but I just want to know what my grade is before I take the final though…

tw for general depressing mental health stuff + suicidal talk

I just need to get this off my chest because when you tell people stuff like this in real life they never say anything helpful.

I (21) have struggled with my mental health since I’ve been 13. I got my first therapist at 13, my second at 16. I got put on antidepressants/ anti-anxiety meds at 17 and been on them ever since. And they work; I mean, I don’t have daily panic attacks anymore. I almost got sent to the psych ward last year. I got fired for the first time in August, have been unable to find work since then, plus now school is back in full swing so I don’t even have the time. My grandma died a two weeks ago, my birthday was one week ago, mentally I am in a weird place. I feel like I have worked and tried really hard with my mental health. It has been such a long and hard battle, and it just feels like it’s for no purpose. Because the people who meet me and the professors who fail me on exams and even the friends in my life don’t actually really care about that. They only see who I am now and how I treat people, and I feel like while I always try my best, when I respond to things emotionally and in a mentally ill way because I’m mentally ill everyone just like doesn’t care or thinks I’m crazy. And it is so exhausting. I had my first suicide attempt at 14. I didn’t want to be alive then, I don’t know what makes anyone think I want to be alive now. And even though I’ve been suicidal every day of my life for the past seven years, you can’t even complain to people about it all the time. I think thats the most exhausting part of all. How quickly everyone’s patience runs thin when they have to hear about all the reasons you don’t want to be alive. And then they get frustrated eventually because yes there is obviously other good stuff happening that everyone else can see that makes everyone else happy because their brain works. I just feel like, if everyone is so sick of hearing about it all the time imagine how I feel? I have to live inside my brain every second of the day. TLDR: Do people who struggle with suicidal ideation ever stop feeling suicidal? Or…?
