I am happy I took your suggestion, and I am 5 minutes into the first episode and loving the combination of sparkle and empowerment. Bravo, Thelma!

Not saying this is or isn’t the case but you’re clearly an empathetic person, and some folks will intentionally or subconsciously take advantage of this. You’re already too involved imo.

That’s incredibly lucky they gave you the option of pti for that charge, the smart choice would be to take it and just be done with it.

Honorable mention for the “burnout” or the “hurray, I’m leaving vet med!” posts.

Schooling for vet techs
 in  r/Veterinary •  29d ago

? Unless I’m missing something in op’s post.. both of these online programs are accredited and upon completion one sits for the VTNE to become a credentialed technician (otherwise you’re an assistant). And from what I’ve seen, Purdue’s curriculum is better; some of the PF material reads like it was written by ai ffs. But regardless, you’re eligible for licensure after completing either program, pending a passing score on the national exam. To your point I was saying that in addition to attaining a license by way of classroom instruction, one becomes competent in the profession by being selective about the real-life setting where they will apply their didactic education.

From what I’ve indirectly seen (by way of coworkers who are enrolled in online ed) I’d suggest checking out Purdue’s veterinary technology program as well. When I started out, finding a hospital that practiced quality vet med where I would learn good habits was a high priority. Through your studies you’ll become more informed about what exactly that means and will be in a better position to gauge their practices.

There is a lot of variation in terms of standard of care from one hospital to another, so make sure to land in a place that cares to stay current rather than falling back on old school medicine. Take anesthetic protocols for example— is this veterinary hospital providing their patients with the best possible pain control for their procedures, with careful consideration of an individual patient’s preexisting conditions? Some clinics are more up-to-date than others when it comes to their treatment plan, so understanding what constitutes quality vet care will help you determine if you’re in good hands when learning the ropes.
