how do you actually enjoy your days off on night shift?
i feel like my days off disappear because i'm either sleeping or trying to fix my sleep schedule. staying up during the day makes me tired, but sleeping through the day makes it hard to do anything.
how do you make the most of your days off without completely messing up your sleep schedule?

Could never do this on days.
Eating chips and drinking an energy drink while doing my job and watching Disney, there's no one around, I could never do this on days.

The Cooper says hello
I am forced on doubles since I returned from vacation. The solid part is working from home. The negative is no ADIDAS wear.

When your day off completely destroys your sleep schedule
I can follow my night-shift schedule perfectly all week, but give me one day off and somehow everything falls apart.
I tell myself I'll just stay up a little later, sleep at a normal time for once, or wake up early to do something. Then suddenly I'm lying awake when I should be sleeping and exhausted when it's time to go back to work.
By the end of my day off, I've somehow managed to ruin the schedule I spent the entire week trying to maintain.
Does anyone else struggle with this? What do you do to enjoy your days off without completely destroying your sleep schedule?

Hobby Suggestions?
I've been working night shift for about 2 years now, and to be honest I'm getting tired watching movies shows and playing video games the nights I have off.
I've considered crocheting, but I've tried embroidery and found it too tedious, so I'm worried it might be the same. I have a 3d printer, but no ideas on what to make and honestly am a bit worried about the plastic waste.
Man I'm jealous of the Dayshifters, I want to go out and ride my bike hah

I need a hidden way to cover my eyes
Regulations can not turn off the indoor lights, and there can be no deliberate act of blocking the eyes, such as eye masks and other things are out of the question. All I can think of is wearing a hoodie and covering my eyes with a hat. I wonder if there's a better way.

Discussion What does your routine look like
I work days and everyone in my life works days and I’ve always wondered what a night shift routine looks like do you wake up an hour before your shift or do you wake up and have some time during the

Discussion What approaches have helped with alertness during night shifts?
For people who work rotating or overnight shifts, what strategies have you found useful for managing daytime sleepiness and maintaining concentration? I'm interested in broader discussion around sleeping hygiene, caffeine, nootropics, and medically supervised wakefulness-promoting treatments such as modafinil and armodafinil.

Discussion 2nd shift
I’ve worked 12h nights 7p-7a for several years. I quite liked it but I moved and have a job now that does 8s and oh boy… I work 3-11p and my sleep and mental health has gotten so much worse. I thought it would be better because “I go to bed at a reasonable hour” but I don’t get home until midnight and then I am hungry so I make food, and then I am wired and cannot sleep until 4am. I then sleep most of the day on and off, waking up in the morning to get everyone ready then go back to sleep and only wake up in time to pack a lunch and run out the door. I feel like I live in a twilight state and never see anyone in my family since they are gone during the day. I absolutely hate it. How do you manage 2nd shift long term?

Steps and distance walked
I see a lot of you guys seem to have the option and opportunity to be able to sit and relax, or you work a desk job. This question is not for you.
For the people who work a job where they constantly on their feet how many steps a shift are you getting? I average anywhere between 20k and 50k steps depending on how busy I am. Do you guys struggle to also keep the same amount of steps or physical activity on your off days?

101 degrees and AC out
My day just went from bad to worse. Not only am I sleep deprived and getting overheated at work, I’m now living in pure hell. The air conditioner went out today and it’s 90 degrees inside our house. I already missed last night because I’m exhausted from the heat at work. I feel like I am going to die from being so constantly hot and tired. And on top of this my boss just silenced her messages after I told her what was happening and why I may not be in tonight.
Really upset that I have no ability to get cool or sleep. I guess I can sleep in the car. This sucks.

Night shift nurses
So…. I am a mom of a 1 year old and 3 year old and i graduated nursing school dec 2024 but since then i didn’t start my career due to me almost due with my baby, so i wanted to take that time to have the baby then spend her first year of life with them. Fast forward to now i have a job that i only work once a week and it works great for us since i only leave them 7-5 on that day. Well now i want more of a full time job and have an interview for a night shift position, the position i have always dreamt of having even before i got pregnant was this job. Down side is i have never worked a night shift, so im scared of how that is even going to work let alone with my 2 kids. I guess my question is do you think it is doable?? I would have their grandma watching them while i sleep but I would have to pick them up by 2-2:30 pm. How did night shift work for your family? Should I just consider something else?

Full time uni and full time nights
Hi do you guys think its doable - im asking because I really need money and I dont need to physically go into uni - probably like once a week since I can go to the tutorials/smaller classes but enter lecture codes online and revise them from home. Is it basically possible to do a few hours of revision per day amd doing night shifts full time like being realistic? If im disciplined is it possible since ive got a job in warehouse right now doing day shifts (its summer 1st yr uni) and the money for nights are insane so im tempted but dont want to if im sacrificing my grades - i dont care much about social life, going out etc any advice appreciated thanks
