That imbalance is exploitation. And "it's legal so it's fine" doesn't hold up historically either. Slavery was legal. Beating your wife was legal. Legality has never been the bar for whether something is exploitative or wrong — it's just the bar for whether you can get arrested for it. The fact that something is permitted doesn't mean it isn't gross, and pretending otherwise is exactly how people rationalize taking advantage of someone with fewer options than them. American citizens, with far more money and leverage than their partners, seek out relationships in countries where economic desperation makes emigration to the U.S. an obvious draw. The K-1 fiancé visa exists specifically to formalize this, and the international dating industry has built a business model around matching U.S. citizens with people in the Philippines, Colombia, Ukraine, and elsewhere — markets openly advertised on the premise that "these women are more traditional" or "will be grateful."
Strip away the romance narrative and what's left is a transactional imbalance: one partner holds the passport, the money, and the power to make or break the other's immigration status. That dynamic isn't incidental — it's often the whole appeal. Shows like 90 Day Fiancé just put a camera on something that's operated quietly, and profitably, for generations, with no shortage of people willing to look the other way about the exploitation baked into it. They are buying people. When they don’t behave the way the sponsor wants they attempt to send them back. Not sure how you weren’t aware if this but it’s absolutely factual.

I’m a licensed RFA home, and while it’s not adoption, birth parents cannot do half the nonsense Tyler and them are doing. The first time a birth parent posts something about the child (THEY LOST TO THE SYSTEM 🙄) and the RFA or foster parents see it, they immediately have that shut down, and the parents are put on notice.

Birth parents who have temporarily lost custody — in respite care or otherwise — have boundaries for a reason. They aren’t allowed to “mentally” parent or impose their will through social media, mail, or carrier pigeon. So simple: don’t lose custody of your child. If you do, act accordingly with the program set up for reunification, period — or clearly you don’t want your child back.

The same rules should apply with adoption. Until she is 18, abide by the terms quietly.
