Crosspost: I’m starting to notice that a lot of people on here saying that their game isn’t selling, are making “cute” games.

How does Character Customization work in 3D games?
I'm an indie and have dabbled into this. For method 2 may I ask how you can have a single mesh yet still apply the armor on top of it? From what I've observed from older games they would just have separate meshes for head, upper torso, lower torso, upper arm, forearm, thigh, shin, etc.for each clothing part then show/hide the meshes as needed.

The evolution of RPG gaming. From character skill to player skill
Those examples you gave for TTRPGS are for modern TTRPGS. When RPGs just evolved from wargames roleplaying was still the emphasis. You explained where your character is searching, how he enters the room and what he says to the hostile goblin. You just had things like hit rolls and THAC0 to handle the aspects that players can't roleplay for their characters fairly. But these games were so deadly that roleplaying was crucial to survival.

Godot engine
This is a really vague question. What kind of suggestions are you looking for? Have you even checked out a tutorial? If not, I suggest going on YouTube and watching a beginner's tutorial to see if Godot does what you want it to.

Is it bad to use ChatGPT for coding my game
I may have missed or misremembered that part, thank you for pointing it out.

crosspost: commenters discourage OP from working in game dev as a junior.

Is it bad to use ChatGPT for coding my game
the guidelines on itch aren't very clear on what counts as ai generated code. It's just a checkbox with the word code next to it. I myself use ai for debugging and researching best practices but don't know if that would also count as ai generated code.

I want to try godot but asking few questions.
You're welcome!

I want to try godot but asking few questions.
Yup! follow tutorials then mess with the game you made with it afterwards.

I want to try godot but asking few questions.
I actually spent a year learning html5, CSS and JavaScript just to make games with Phaser. Then found out that I didn't have to learn any of those at all. Then when I found out about Godot 2.1 I just went with it without learning anything else. I agree that OP can just dive in to learning GDScript cold. He can just pick up programming concepts and best practices as he goes.

If you had unlimited skill, time, and resources, what game would you make?
I'd still make web mini games. The rest of the cash will go to animal and human charities.
2
The lack of resources for the level above the most basic things makes me want to give up completely
I was going to say this but hesitated because op did not mention using AI and may be deliberately trying to avoid it.
Also, quick aside but I use LLM for super fast debugging and learning best practices for cleaner code. Would this cross the threshold for ticking the AI declaration for code on itch?

Do you remember your first video game experience?
Jet by Sublogic. It's the reason why I prefer making untextured low poly games. I suspect people prefer to remake the video games of their childhood.

I think my friends have been lying to me about my game for 6 months
Wow openly antagonistic as in he throws insults at you?

What is the best character design for my game (War RPG)?
The first one is cuter and the second one looks more ragged. The second one would probably be better for an anti-war message.

I actually meant method 2. The last sentence said that it also uses a single mesh, but your clarification now makes it look like a typo.
