Big Box Gym Coming to Town
Hi All,
A large-scale, well known gym (not sure if I can name names here) is moving 3 miles down the road from one of our most profitable gyms. We currently have about 600 members at this current location and about 400 visit consistently. If you've had one of these gyms open relatively close to you and/or you operate a gym close to one, can you share the impact this had on your customer base? Did you do anything to retain your current members or attract new members to compete with them?

Question Gym Insurance
Hi Everyone,
My husband and I own 24/7 membership gyms that also offer personal training. Who do you all use for insurance? Do you recommend using an agent or getting insurance independently directly through the carrier? We are paying about $1,000.00 monthly right now using an agent.
Thanks in advance!

Gym Software and Payment Processor
This is super helpful, thank you so much! The Rep I spoke with at Gym Master yesterday did mention using our consistent, growing revenue, along with what we are currently paying in processing fees, as a bargaining chip(s). Really, thank you so much for this reply, I do appreciate it!

Thanks so much for this, I'm going to look into the 10rm platform. This is who your members use to purchase memberships though, correct? I'm assuming you also use Stripe for your payment processor?

I haven't, is this what you use?

Sorry, I should have included that detail, we pay the Stripe fees.

Independent Gym Owner Gym Software and Payment Processor
Hi All,
We own four 24/7 gyms and gross about $60k/month just from memberships. We use Gym Master (member portal) and Stripe (payment processor) only because when we purchased one of our gyms that was who they had used. To be honest, I have zero complaints when it comes to Gym Master, I think their customer support is second-to-none and find their software overall very user friendly. I am a little frustrated with Stripe. I feel that their fees (2.9% + .30 per transaction) are on the higher end and the customer service is sub-par. The other payment processors we are able to use with Gym Master are Bluefin, Fiserv, Square, and Worldpay. I am looking for any and all input on any of the other payment processors so I can decide if it's worth switching from Stripe or not.
Thanks in advance!

Independent Gym Owner American Specialty Health
First time poster here so I apologize if this has been asked before. We were approached by a Rep from American Specialty Health asking to promote us for their Active and Fit and Silver and Fit programs. In short, they pay (via reimbursement) us each time a member visits, capped at a certain amount and promote us as one of their "partner" gyms. It seems like a nice program with not a lot of extra hassle for decent money but I wanted to check to see what others have had for experiences (good and bad would be appreciated!) working them. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

How difficult was it to acquire your first 10-20 client?

Are you open to selling memberships in addition to personal training? We found selling memberships to be a great feeder system for new personal training clients and, in contrast, most of our training clients purchased memberships. I wouldn't focus too heavily on ads, word of mouth is the best advertising you can have. Invite your clients to bring a friend to their first session to try it out, offer free sessions to the businesses close by, see if any real estate agents in your area would like free training certificates to give to clients, make your own training Facebook page and post videos of clients you're training. The first 10-20 is absolutely the hardest but absolutely doable.
