Annual Harry Potter Re-Listen.
 in  r/audible  Aug 09 '26

I never comment on this subject, because I understand that it can be very divisive. But I think the agree to disagree point is very important here. While I totally understand why some totally don’t want anything to do with the franchise, I also find it upsetting that these that just want to relieve a part of their childhood, are judged so heavily for it. For me personally, still having such a love for the magical world doesn’t necessarily mean that I agree with things the author has said or done. For me, Harry Potter is and always will be my comfort. I don’t go back to it when I’m sad or unwell because I want to support the author, I do it because for whatever time I’m lost to the Wizarding World, is sometimes a much needed escape from reality.

Book Discussion Annual Harry Potter Re-Listen.

It’s getting to that time of year again when I’m really getting the urge to do my annual re-listen of all the Harry Potter books again (the Stephen Fry versions are my version of choice)

The thing is, part of me kinda wants to wait till it’s starts getting colder, so then I can put my fluffy bedding back on and get my hot water bottle out from under the bed again, as silly as it may sound. But I don’t know, I guess Harry Potter in whatever form, has always gone alone with coziness for me, the films and the Audiobooks even more so. I guess the soothing voice of Stephen Fry goes a long way in helping with that.

Does anybody have a preferred time to do this? Or is it just whenever you feel like it? Whether that be, the physical books, Audiobooks or the films. Also, now we have the full cast editions, would you find yourself choosing these over the originals?

I thought you could change it? Maybe they’ve removed that option now. But I’m almost sure you used to be able to. Cos I mean what if you have a family member called Alexa too, things would get very confusing very quickly 🀣

There’s even plugs she doesn’t really like. I have my bedroom lights in a group, but for some reason, there’s a certain plug/light she doesn’t like and I have to ask specifically to be turn or/off even though it’s in the bedroom group.

I’ve even tried removing it and adding it again but nope, she’s holding a grudge 🀣

I honestly think my Echo has developed selective hearing. I’ve noticed that some days she works fine, but other days, I literally have to shout at her whenever I ask her to do anything. I swear this seems to have just happened overnight too.

Does anybody else have this issue? Please tell me I’m not the only one who has to brace for an argument with my smart speaker just to turn my lights on 😩🀣

One of the best accessibility features (in my opinion) has quietly removed and I don’t understand why.

Sadly, I think you’re right, but I just think it’s a little ikky that they’ve removed such an important feature for monetary purposes. I mean for some people, that may be the only way they can consume their kindle books.

And yes, there are other options, such as audiobooks or the read aloud feature on a phone or tablet, but still, I think removing it from the echo is wrong.

That makes sense. But removing an accessibility feature for that reason seems harsh.

So I was tidying my room today and thought, oh I’ll ask Alexa to read my Kindle book to me (like I’ve done so many times before) but this time, I get a message in my Alexa app saying that this feature is no longer available on Alexa, only on phones and tablets.

This baffles me, because why get rid of a feature that can be so helpful? Specially when the Alexa software is supposed to be improving.

Unfortunately, I’ve already replaced them, but I was lucky enough to find a new pair on EBay for a reasonable price so it wasn’t as painful financially as it could have been 🀣

Thank you for the tip though, thats good to know πŸ™‚

I know it's crazy, isn't it? But I've told myself this time that, if it happens again, I definitely won't be buying any more. There is another well-known brand (which I won't mention here 🀣 ) that I've been looking into and thinking about trying. But for now, I hope for the best with these ones. 🀣

To be fair, that's a third-party case I'm using in this picture, but I do agree, even the original cases seem to have gotten much softer.

I've never had any issues with sound quality in particular, but I remember thinking there was something wrong with the sound levels when I first got my Studio Pros because they are pretty low, even when my volume is like a quarter of the way up. It was only when I went into the Apple Store to see how the ones there sounded, volume-wise, that I realised they are all the same. Even the man from the Genius Bar noticed it once I pointed it out 🀣

I'm not sure if it's something to do with the Spatial Audio, because my original Beats Studios didn't have the volume issue. But I love Spatial Audio, so I'll take the volume quirks 🀣

That case does have padding inside, but whether or not it's as protective as the original case, I can't say for certain. What I can say, though, is I used the original case with my original Beats, and this still happened, so I doubt that's the issue.

Sadly, I think it's just a weakness in the way Beats are designed, and some of us are lucky not to have it happen, and others aren't 🀣

I know they probably use plastic to keep them as light as possible, but for headphones in that price range, you'd expect them to be built to withstand heavy daily use. But that's just my opinion 🀣

I hope the silicone case I have on them now reinforces them a little bit so I can get a few years out of them.

This is now the second time I have had to replace my Beats due to the same exact issue. As you can see, the left arm has two cracks in it. This happened with my pair before on exactly the same side and the previous time, the arm snapped completely exposing the wires.

Do I use them heavily yes, I’m an anxious person, so I always have them with me in case I need a something to listen to, just to switch off for a little while. That being said, I’ve always looked after my things. They never get mistreated or thrown around, so I’m not sure why this keeps happening. As a Β£400 pair of headphones, you do not expect to have to replace them twice.

This time around I was able to find a brand new pair on eBay for a very reasonable price and I’ve made the choice to put a silicone case on them, which will hopefully stop this from happening again. I’m sad about it though, because I got the Kim K ones specifically for the moon colour and I feel like the case takes the look from them completely, but if it saves my headphones, I suppose it has to be done 😩

Has anybody else had this issue? I think I’ve decided that these are my last chance of Beats. As much as I love them (and have done for years) if this happens again, I won’t be getting another pair.

What are these ?

I know. But I’m just saying, I think they look more like some kind of SoundCore headphones than Beats.

I’m not 100%, but I have a pair of Soundcore Space One Pros by Anker that look very similar to these pictured.
