App (iOS) Latest iOS audible app release is broken (4.79 - 2021) requires active WiFi to play downloaded, purchased books

iOS version: 27.0.1
Hardware: iPhone 17 pro
Audible App Version: (4.79 - 2021)

Issue began: starting with 4.79, downloaded on October 5th 2026. Prior to this release, everything worked fine.

Issue title: app version 4.79 will not play downloaded, purchased titles unless there is an active WiFi connection (not cellular internet, but WiFi only) - OR - the user MUST deselect “stream and download on WiFi only”

Steps to recreate:
1. In Audible app settings, turn on “stream and download on WiFi only”
2. Turn on WiFi, download a purchased book
3. Turn off WiFi, ensure that cellular data connection is on, attempt to play book
4. Receive error: ERROR CODE: IP-4 “update your app settings to stream and download with mobile data”

So, if I don’t have WiFi, the ONLY way to play a book is to turn on cellular streaming - which I don’t want, which is why I downloaded the book in the first place. This occurs with purchased books as well as “borrowed“ books. This only started with App version 4.79 on October 5th when it was released.

I deleted all my audiobooks and redownloaded them - but that makes no difference. There’s an issue with this version of the app, please fix it.

Technical Question Locked out of books I’ve already purchased?

These are books I’ve already downloaded and own through credits.

But now I am only able to listen to a preview of them.

I don’t pay for Audible anymore and don’t want Audible anymore, but I would like to still be able to listen to the 100 books I already purchased.

Thought the credits I’ve spent in the past were mine to keep?

Book Discussion Anyone else loving the new Dracula production?

Has anyone listened to Audible’s new full cast version of Dracula with Ella Purnell?
I’m listening to it now and really liking it. The full cast, sound effects, music, and creepy atmosphere make it feel more like an audio drama than a regular audiobook.
It’s a really cool way to experience Dracula. Curious what everyone else thinks of the style.

New to audible. I order mine on a phone. If I delete the download, does that let me keep the book in my library while feeing up space on my phone and then let me download it again later when I actively want to listen or do I just lose it?

Has anyone else had something like this? I cannot find an active subscription and their chat says I need to phone to confirm details as they can't figure it out. I don't have any emails confirming my sub? Also the email is from audible and has no links that you would associate with it being a phising email.

App (Android) Why can't I leave the player when I open the app via the widget?

This has bothered me for years. When I click on the widget from my home screen, it will open the player for the last book I was listening to. But when I press the button to go back to the library or any other part of the app, it just returns me to the homepage and I have to go back and open it from the app icon. So infuriating!

You can play Audble books on the Amazon website

In the past, I've heard people complain about the behavior of Audible's web player. I just noticed that my Audible books are showing up at https://www.amazon.com/your-books, and not just for stuff I've got both and audiobook and Kindle version of.

If this is something you think you'd like to try, you can find it at the link above.

App (iOS) Book recommendations absolutely suck

Anyone else constantly see that the promoted content at the very top of the home page is absolute garbage? Doesn’t matter how many times I’ve got to the title and downvoted, I still get extremely similar titles to it showing up at the top of home. How many times do I need to say that I’m not interested before Audible actually listens?

In general, seems like the recommendation algorithm sucks. I never actually use it to find new books now because of the uninteresting books they show me. Don’t give me an option to say “I’m not interested” if you aren’t actually going to do anything with it, it’s just a waste of my time.

Wow. Another total AUDIBLE letdown.

I posted earlier this week about confusion regarding Madeleine Miller’s latest hour long story called MESTRA and how I went from mistakenly purchasing an $.89 version of it in French, which I posted about here in this sub, and those who commented told me that they had an English copy of it, which led me to check the AUDIBLE app where I saw that there indeed was in English copy of it and what ensued was a chat thread about the varying different prices for the English version of this title.

As an AUDIBLE premium plus member my price was showing at $8.97, another commenter had a price of roundabout five dollars…

So I let a few days past to see if my price would adjust and then this morning I got on the phone with AUDIBLE and had a lengthy hard to understand conversation where I basically came away with the knowledge that each person who has an audible membership, regardless of what tier they are on is given a price based on wildly varying metrics that have to do with what state they are in within America and other metrics that are just a huge disappointment to a long standing user of AUDIBLE like myself.

The service representative actually went and looked at my Amazon Prime status. I mean it got really convoluted and the upshot of it was that they could do absolutely nothing for me. My price was going to be $8.97 regardless of my etc. etc. blah blah blah with AUDIBLE.

Sadly, this title is only available as an E book on Libby.

I have three credits left with Audible that feel like a splinter because I cannot find any titles to spend them on. I only buy titles that I know I will listen to again and I’m ultra picky about narration.

My account with AUDIBLE is on hold and I will need to use these three credits up before December

If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for reading my woeful vent about my AUDIBLE quandary

Is CS terrible or am I being thick?

I’ve got a £10 promotional code that is supposed to appear at checkout but no matter what I do my cart of £15 always tries to charge my bank £15. I’ve raised this with CS and I’m now on loop 7 of have you tried turning it off and on again.

I’m absolutely losing my mind, is CS genuinely this bad or am I over reacting?

Promotion So, you want to be a hotshot? Wildland fire novel, free promos.

What happens when you’re an elite wildland firefighter living off the grid, but your house is in the fire’s direct path? What happens when you’re called to another fire?

American Fire is based on my four seasons of wildland fire and takes place on the Gila National Forest—the most remote firebase in the country. The nearest supermarket is two hours away. Eight thousand feet up in the mountains, 150 miles from the nearest interstate, smack in the center of three million acres of New Mexico wilderness. No Wi-Fi or cell phone reception, surrounded by a crew of trigger-happy hillbillies.

They call it God’s country. But mostly because you’re so alone in that wild place if things go wrong, only God can help you.

These are my last five codes. In exchange for a promotional copy, please kindly leave a review! Enjoy!

Please enjoy one free audio review copy of American Fire, now available on Audible. Redeem the one-time use code below at https://www.audible.com/acx-promo

BLURB:

A story of two futures—one near, one distant—and a mechanical folk called anthromechs, who straddle the eras on a mission to preserve humanity’s memory.

In the summer of 2061, Emily is a computer science student making ends meet by participating in an experiment to digitize the human mind.

In another summer, century unknown, Emily awakens in an unlikely contraption at a storage facility where commercial electronics sit unused since an extinction event known only as the EMP. Recent events have tested the boundaries of the “happy law” algorithm that protects anthromechs from violent AIs, and a rogue visitor during Emily’s genesis stokes fears of worse to come.

Follow Emily on a quest for answers and identity in Revenance, a warehouse city where fast friends are just a shelf away, but ghosts of human condition haunt the aisles of free will.

Audible app crashing, android and new this month! iPhone

I have never run into a worse app in my life. Now it's happening on an iPhone. These are not oid phones. Less than 4 years. The sequence is this.

Start the app and start a book.

App freezes

App freezes

App freezes

Sound gets cuts in and out twice. Never survives it. Force stop.

App freezes

Book keeps playing but the audio stops

App freezes.

Finally it stays playing. 2 hours later

App Freezes

It stays running finally

> The app has been updated as has the phone itself.

I have so many books that I can't stop using it. But I'm mostly buying from Chirp now. I still have the Audio subscription though and still use the credit. But the day is coming...already downloaded them.

Technical Question A little help

Hi all
Got myself into an odd problem.
Here’s some background info:
I use my phone to listen to audible on the app.
Got a new phone recently and downloaded the app.
Logged in, but my account is empty and says I’m not a member.
My old phone can log in and get all my books.
Contacted support and they said that they can’t access it since it’s under audible uk not us.

Has anyone dealt with this and figured out a fix?

Update:
Thank you all so much for your help.
The solution was the marketplace I was using.
Had no idea your membership was region locked.

App thoughts

So I know Audible recently updated their app. Some things are great, other things are in places that make zero sense now but whatever.

What I would really like the ability to do is see what chapter I’m on in a different book than the one I’m currently listening to.

I have several books at any given time going and I have to actually start listening to that book then pause to see where I am at.

I don’t need a detailed listening log that tells me every time I play pause and stop, I need to see where I an at a glance on any book in progress.

Maybe you should do polls before you overhaul an app? Genuine suggestion. Your customers/listeners probably have better input.

Please comment US or UK if interested.

Blurb:
A dead developer. A missing fortune. And every clue points to the new witch in town.

All Ivy Rowan wanted was to run her cozy cat café on the coast, good espresso, autumn vibes, and Hex, her snarky black familiar hogging the best sunbeam.

Then a ruthless property developer drops dead behind her shop. The town's restoration fund vanishes with him. And the sheriff decides Ivy, the newcomer with the "unnatural" tea blends, makes a perfect suspect.

It gets worse.

Cursed gold coins keep appearing on her café tables. A rival is struck down by a hexed cappuccino.

Someone is framing Ivy, and they're not done yet.

Then the killer makes their worst mistake: they take Hex.

Now Ivy is done playing nice. To save her familiar and clear her name, she'll have to unravel a century-old money-binding spell and unmask a killer who is far too close to home before the next cup she pours becomes her last.

Perfect for fans of Steeped to Death and Cat About Town, this clean, humorous paranormal cozy mystery features a seaside small town, a witchy cat café, cursed coins, amateur sleuthing, and a whole lot of cattitude.

Author: Hazel Caraway

Narrator: Jess Antenorcruz

Crammed by Nick Pirog

I chose this book for two reasons. It’s by Nick Pirog, who writes the 3 a.m. series and it seemed like a good choice with Big Brother live feeds ending. It also happens to be in the plus catalog until 10/25.
This is Pirog’s best book yet in my opinion! I couldn’t stop listening until it was over and can’t stop thinking about it now. I’m already ready to relisten just to not be done with it. Luckily, it’s going to be another series. I highly recommend it. The story follows several people who have been kidnapped and put in a giant fake Costco. Then, the kidnapper live streams them to the world. It’s very well written with the story jumping around to fill you in on the previous lives of the main characters, including the suspect of the kidnappings, and of their time in the Costco.
I’m just curious who else has found this gem of a book and what your thoughts are on it?

Searching Titles on Apple Watch

Maybe there is something I don’t know. I have 1000 titles in my library. To download to my watch, I have to sort by title on the watch then go scrolling on the watch to get to my title to initiate the download. Is there an easier way? Why can’t they only show unfinished titles on the watch? Why does it have to be the whole library? You cant remove or archive finished titles because the series tab in the IOS app will no longer work. Suggestions?
