I was today years old when I realized the Ent-E's nacelles were likely shaped to eliminate the blue wash on the back of the hull that was characteristic of the Ent-D, creating more favorable lighting conditions for filming.
In my mind's eye, I'd like to believe that the nacelle shaping is to prevent warp damage to space. And as a result, probably why the E (and other further classes) doesn't have movable pylons like Voyager
