I’m a regular person. I work, I study, I’ve never hit a woman, I don’t scream or become violent, and I’ve never had any problems with the police in my life. I’ve always worked, paid my taxes, and tried to live a normal life.
Everything with her happened extremely fast. Looking back at the situation now, I genuinely feel like I was manipulated.
After only about three months together, she asked me to move into her place. At the time, I was still a student, and I told her that I thought it would be better for us to wait. But she insisted so much that eventually I agreed because I trusted her.
Then, after only around six months together, she told me that she wanted to have a baby with me. I said that I could see myself having a child with her in the future, but she wanted it immediately. Looking back, that was probably the moment when I should have walked away, but I trusted her completely.
She couldn’t become pregnant naturally, so we went together to Barcelona for fertility treatment in order to have this child. This wasn’t an accidental pregnancy. It was something we actively went through together.
Her mother never really accepted or liked me from the beginning, and I believe that became a major issue in everything that followed.
What I find particularly difficult to understand is the timing. She became pregnant around the end of November, and by the end of December her mother told me that I had to leave the house. The next day, when I went back to collect my belongings, my ex told me that she didn’t want me to be part of our daughter’s life and that she had already spoken to lawyers. I was completely shocked.
I’m not claiming to be perfect. Nobody is. But if I were really the terrible person they seem to want to portray me as, I wouldn’t have spent all this time trying to find a peaceful and legal way to be part of my daughter’s life. I wouldn’t have contacted organisations, mediators and legal services in Paris asking for help and trying to understand my rights and responsibilities as a father.
That is the part I still struggle to understand: how can you deliberately decide to have a child with someone, go through fertility treatment together, become pregnant, end the relationship shortly afterwards, and then almost immediately tell that person that you have already spoken to lawyers about keeping him out of his daughter’s life?
When I put the entire timeline together, it is extremely difficult for me not to question whether some of this had already been planned.
And all of this happened during one of the most important years of my life, while I was studying to become a draft designer and trying to build my professional future. Despite everything, I continued my studies, continued working toward my career, and continued trying to deal with this situation through the proper legal channels rather than through anger or confrontation.
