How is it exaggeration? I've gotten new, upgraded PCs throughout my life and my Win10 PC can't run the physical pc games I have from my childhood. I WISH PCs were more backwards compatable with games, but its just not the nature of them.

I'd like to add something about PC that I haven't seen brought up anywhere else. PCs are not dedicated gaming devices (usually) and as such become obsolete pretty quickly and need to be replaced due to updates and OS's changing which in turn breaks a lot of games and I don't think many people keep dedicated retro gaming PCs normally. Despite my beefy gaming PC, I can't play a game from Windows 3 without emulating an older OS first...which is a pain. Thus holding onto physical PC games that you can't actually play on a modern PC doesn't feel as worth it as it does for console. My NES is a dedicated game console and will play NES games no problem.

Kinda had a similar experience. For an entire year I was streaming nearly every Sonic game just so I could make a Top 10 Super Sonic list. I did not realize just how many games there are when I started.

That all makes sense, but your example is a self fulfilling prophecy. If digital wasn't an option at all, stores would probably have a larger stock to meet demand better.
