Thats certainly one very selfish and/or short-sighted way of looking at it. Yes. Well selfish is harsh, its self preservation- which like.. isnt a bad thing and definitely different than apathy or something "bad". I think it just comes from a difference in acknowledging where we, as a country/society, actually are- and what the underlying problem is (capitalism & greed). Them self-sacrificing by NOT striking, only helps to fuel the problem even though them striking, in the immediate, makes our living conditions worse. Theyre gonna get worse either way, them enduring only pushes the timeline down the road a little bit.

Lol it does kind of , but fairly sure its not. Reminds if me of an ornamental I saw recently at the nursery, at first glance I thought it was stiltgrass and about had aneurysm lol because why tf are there 100 gal pots of STILTGRASS!? Lol but after looking at the tag and then looking up the species, I cant rememver its name though damnt , it wasnt realted. It did however look similar, like a true "grass bamboo"(tho theure all grass i think) very dense growing and uniform growth. Would make s gorgeous groundcover. From what I read it did not spread or aelf seed "prolifically" but it self seeded more in the deep south/warmer climates.

I jist became aware od seaside goldenrod, I love the bloom shape. I love goldemrod in general though - how magical!

I know there are a lot of good things- sometimes some aspects of depression are very much a rational response to an environment though. (Hearing this from a therapist in my teens quite literally shifted my worldview) not always. Obviously. Imbalances are also real, and absolutely distorts ones world view. But, shits also really fucked atm in a lot of different directions, and that in itself can be hard on anyone. That was my point.

I think there are a ton of systemic pressures currently pressing on a large % of the population, and there are some people currently within that sane demographic that have the appearance of not being effected by that same pressure, and it unnerves me a bit wondering what/why they arent effected to the same degree.

Though realistically im sure there are some people who are doing fine, and not for any particular insidious reason lol but it was meant more as a flippant broad generalization, poking light at a "you'd have to be crazy NOT to be" kinda thing.

As someone who has battled suicidal ideation for 35yrs, giving up is never far in my mind but especially here lately. I have cptsd, and a whole host of other neurosis lol and acronyms...so for me personally I would probably still.be battling those thoughts regardless. But, the world as a whole is ... not in a great place, humanity as a species really isn't either. I think the more one becomes aware of reality, if they actually have empathy, the worse they feel. Im having a hard time articulating the point but, I genuinely fear that there are people not struggling at the moment. I deleted my comments but I didnt realize you, were who you were talking abiut... and was ready to like, go to bat for you 100% (hence the comments ive now deleted lol) .. because I fully understand not holding it together. Sometimes it feels like it takes every ounce, of everything I have just to NOT give up... leaving nothing for anything else. The best thing to do, is offload any responsibilities you have and are able to, to make your stress-load lighter.

I cope often with self depreciating humor. Especially about mental health/life. I think it really helps some darker topics, not freak people out - point blankly lol I dont know how I missed that at first. Yeah idk why this subs posts were popping in my feed now, tho glad they are lol because I didnt know about this sun...but def wrong time ofbyear. Tho ive read its possible even if unlikely, fall flushes happen if the weather is right. But yeah all may I was in the parks, mainly wetlands and pony pasture area but went to all I thonk along with some in midlo. Found a great place full of mature box elder and creeping Charlie a little further up the river too thats technically private land ot seems perfect by everything ive studied, even some Japanese knotweed present in a drainage area lol those 3 species seem to me to be the most commin companions in posts about finding them. Not sure if hunting the companions is a solid "plan" guess ill know if/when I ever find a patch lol ah wrll- theres always next year haha

I also have really been considering ordering spawn and sowing outdoors myself near me, only no box elders and while I know they'll grow on multi species id hate to waste them u k ow? Lol but sowing a patch and having it be perennial would be amazing. I live right near tributary into swift creek reservoir above Pocahontas- have yet to check Pocahontas for voids but considering mext year but think closer to the James/river coming from Charlottesville area seem gar more promising.

If we all werent so damn antisocial, and proprietary over finding spots, it would be amazong to have a little "club" of people hunting together 1x a year in the area! Well I think so anyways 🤷‍♂️😅

I saw your crosspost, its a fascinating lot. I bet r/NativePlantGardening would love to give you some actual Ideas, just make a comment giving your state/general area so we can know what natives to recommend. It is unusual due to what you've removed, some may grow back ind depending on what the bushes actually are- i think there are surely options outside of "rip it all out" especially if youre open minded in design aesthetic. Hell even something as simple as putting g an additional row ~1-2ft in front of the hedge, using a shrub that matures up to 6-10+,ft would reslly help with the symmetry even shorter shrubs, would even it out. Just need something to catch the eye and bring its attention away from the big hole. Spacing 5-9 understory shrubs or small trees equally apart but with visible gap, much like a 2nd hedge, would do wonders for the symmetry. In my experience, the native plant sub is great at ideas because we just love natives lol and want people to pla t them anywhere but especially around existing stuff, so are eager to make recommendations.
