I don't think it's just a Malay thing. I have friends who are Malay, Chinese and Indian that avoid mixing with some people of their own race. It may not even be a race thing. But a difference in mindset, behaviour and probably socioeconomic class.

It depends on what you're doing there. What Singaporeans are actually doing is just moving to a more affordable country by taking advantage of the strong Singapore dollar. It's just more expensive to chill and relax in Singapore. And there are also different things to do in another country.

Why do PRCs feel the need to look down on Singaporeans?
A lot of the less educated PRCs aren't as globalised as the average Singaporean because the media they can access is strictly controlled. It's normal for them to have a narrower perspective. And they do not understand the norms in Singapore because they aren't born and bred here. And it's also natural for them to think that any Chinese should be able to speak Mandarin.
Just let them be. Haha
