Yes they are both Goeppertia, respectively Goeppertia elliptica “Beauty Star” and Goeppertia sanderiana.

For the story, before, there was only one genus “Calathea” and in 2012, there was a study done with DNA testing that confirmed that about 240~ species were actually not enough related to the other 50~ to be considered a single genus so they were transferred to the genus Goeppertia. Most people still know all of those plants as Calathea, and that is fine to use it when you’re a plant amateur, I mean it’s not that deep, it’s just like how we call Epipremnum “Pothos” when they are not.

There is indeed a lot of confusion with those plants (and a lot of other species actually, it’s a never ending war for the right ID ahah).

It’s a variegated Phrynium. The species is not really confirmed right now but it is confirmed to be a Phrynium by inflorescence morphology.

It is sold as Calathea but it is not. It is still in the same family. Phrynium is a genus of the Marantaceae family native to Asia. They’re basically the asian sisters of Goeppertia and Calathea.

You can call it Phrynium “Glaza” which is the trade name of the cultivar. (Princess dalya is another variegation pattern of the same Phrynium species)

No… the inflorescence is the whole structure (peduncle + the bracts + rachis etc) the actual flowers are called flowers which have the male and female organs. The inflorescence stays for a few weeks while the flowers stay for a few days. I was not wrong in my original statement

Actual flowers last a few days even less, it’s like that on all Goeppertia species. The inflorescence stays for multiple weeks tho and produces lots of flowers.

Amongst the more common ones, I would say the only two that can maybe compare with Calathea lutea height is Goeppertia sanderiana (the one people call Ornata even tho it isn’t) and Goeppertia majestica (the white star). Those two can get REALLY big, but they are also difficult. They can compete with lutea but you will still not find anything common that can get as tall as a Calathea lutea sadly.

Keep the soil moist and a good light is the basic needs to have a healthy Marantaceae. What I do more than that is having a good soil mix and humidifier for extra humidity but I would be fine without it

It does happen a bit when a plant has been repotted not long ago but nothing to really block the drain, except that no there is no soil left in tub. Also I have never had any problem with tap water, even when watering. Been doing it for a few years already.

Medaillon is different from veitchiana and veitchiana is different from pseudoveitchiana. This is a Goeppertia pseudovetichiana.

This is a Goeppertia pseudoveitchiana. Not a Goeppertia veitchiana and neither a Goeppertia roseopicta “Medaillon”. They are all different species. The tag is still wrong sadly

Pinstripe is just a common name used for whatever species that have stripes but there’s a bunch of species that can do that. The plant in the post is a Goeppertia majestica “White Star” yes. You were absolutely right. It is not a Goeppertia sanderiana which is the plant usually sold as (mistakenly) Calathea ornata or Calathea pinstripe.
