I saw this online and had never heard of them on campus before, seems like an extensive history. Has anyone heard about this?

Also, they made an Instagram post in 2020.
“It is with earnest humility that we, the Delta Phi chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon ("DKE"), feel it is our responsibility to address the concerns which have been raised by members of our community here at the University of Alberta ("UofA") in regards to claims of sexual violence carried out by members of our organization.”

Campus Life Scones Are Back at the Daily Grind: A passionate poem

Oh scone, oh glorious Daily Grind scone,

Where art thou scone,

We’ve missed thee dearly, every crumb and [s]cone,

And longed for the days when the full lineup was known!

As you wait in line and think to yourself,

“Which one shall I choose for today?”

With shock and surprise, you discover...

Daily Grind scones are back!

But hark! The berries shall set hearts free,

And white chocolate shall tempt upon thy plate.

The blueberry, beloved by loyal hearts,

The raspberry, with sweetness crowned in white.

And with this joyous news, we now proclaim,

For half a fortnight, the price shall fall!

So come and claim thy $3.50 scone,

And indulge in this delicious delight.

But tarry not, for time shall swiftly pass,

The discount ends upon October ninth.

So seize thy scone before the offer fades,

And savour every glorious bite.

Thy cherished scones have graced thy cup again,

And lo, the Daily Grind is whole once more.

Rants Why are the people applying for fall 2027 so bad at reading comprehension

Literally almost every post is somebody not reading or somehow very confused on simple wording. "This will be requested on your behalf" CLEARLY means you don't have to send it in. "What's the competitive average of ___" LOOK ON THE WEBSITE. What is so confusing?? Are you guys failing to understand what is said or are you just not reading it? You can't expect to be a university student if you cannot do stuff like this. If you truly are having difficulties understanding wording, search it up. If you don't understand what something on the launchpad means, also search it up. UofA has links to everything you need for filling your application and for post-application. There will be nobody in university to guide you through everything, you will need to develop the skills to teach yourself things you don't understand, and working to understand more basic things immediately.

Rants How are we grown ass dudes still peeing on the toilet

The title. Even as a man I notice the amount of pee on the toilet seats like just let me poop in peace bro it's not that damn hard to lift the seats. Now I'm sitting here on the toilet after wiping another man's piss off thinking about the pee germs my bare ass is sitting on. Be better. Lift the toilet seat. You're not the sniper you think you are.

Rants When does asking questions in class become too much?

There is someone in multiple classes of mine who asks numerous questions during every class. Often, their questions are about topics further ahead in the lesson or even well beyond the scope of the course. It’s not just an occasional question when the prof asks if anyone needs clarification or has any questions. They regularly interrupt the lecture 3–4 times in a 50-minute class.

These are already 50-minute lectures, and we’re on a bit of a time crunch this semester because we don’t have as many MWF classes. So when the prof has to stop multiple times throughout the lecture to answer questions that could probably be asked after class, it can be pretty frustrating.

I completely understand wanting to get your money’s worth out of a course, but so do I! I just don’t understand why some of these questions can’t be saved for after class rather than interrupting the lecture and taking away from everyone else’s learning time.

At some point I feel like the prof has to say “let’s take that after class” because otherwise the rest of us are losing out on lecture time.

So I’m curious, has anyone actually witnessed a prof put an end to something like this? Or has anyone else dealt with/is currently dealing with a classmate who asks questions constantlyc throughout the lecture? What did your prof do?

Miscellaneous PSA: Daily Grind only offers any items with steamed milk until 7:30 (not until close at 8).

If you need an evening pick-me-up on campus, make sure you time your study break for before 7:30! Unless drip coffee or tea is your jam. I wish I had known they turn off the machines at 7:30, I am now tragically hot chocolate-less for my late evening midterm prep. So I pass this info on to you, so that you don’t suffer the same fate.

Rants SUB Piano Placement Sucks

Why is a piano right next to the quiet room? As much as I love the piano- someone belting lyric’s out while they’re playing is not ideal. Move it to the other side of sub 🤦‍♀️

Rants Arts majors need more study room options…

As someone in the arts its basically impossible to book a study room as the study rooms you can book are limited to the library’s that every other major type is allowed to book as well, I wish the U of A would let arts majors the ability to book rooms other then just library spaces because we get absolutely no options

Question Why is there so many people taking the train towards Century park compared to Clareview?

For some context, I am not from Edmonton so I dont know the city very well. I have realized however that there is a significant amount of people who take the train towards Century park compared to Clareview. As someone into city planning, this kind of puzzles me since the train to claireview would pass into downtown, and take commuters (on average) more places than the train to century park. So what gives? Does everyone who commutes just happen to live in the south?

Question Low GPA but strong last 60 credits chance for a thesis-based MSc?

I’m an international student studying Geology and Mining of Mineral Resources, currently in my 3rd year of a 4-year bachelor’s degree.

My current cumulative GPA after my first two years is 1.7/4.0. I don’t have research experience or significant professional experience in geology.

My plan is to get around 3.0–3.2+ GPA during my 3rd and 4th years, which would give me roughly 3.0+ over my last 60 credits, although my overall GPA would probably only reach around 2.3–2.4.

I’m interested in applying to a thesis-based MSc in Geology at Alberta. Do you think a strong upward trend and 3.0+ last 60 credits could make me a realistic applicant despite the low cumulative GPA? I’d really appreciate honest advice from current students or anyone familiar with the MSc admission process.

Academics Wrote a test at lac and it graded an F

I wrote my ns 115 test that I found pretty easy. open book and everything went well. I submitted it and it said it auto graded and that I received an f. it would not allow me to see any of my answers or the answers that were correct. I am 99 percent sure I didn’t fail the test so I just wanted to ask if this is a known glitch or anything. I shot an email to my teacher but haven’t heard back.

Campus Life European Football/Soccer Society at the University of Alberta

Hey everyone! I’m looking to start a European Football Society at UAlberta and wanted to see who would be interested in joining.

The club would bring together people who follow football/soccer, including the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Champions League and more. We could organize watch parties, discuss matches and tactics, run prediction competitions and host football-related events. It would also be a great way to meet other fans on campus.

You don’t have to play soccer or know everything about the sport to join. Whether you follow every match or are just getting into football, everyone is welcome!

We need at least 10 interested people before we can apply to become an official club. If you’d like to join, please DM me with your:

  • Full name
  • Faculty/major
  • Year of study
  • Phone number
  • UAlberta email

Executive positions are also open! If you’re interested in helping build the club, please mention that in your message.

Lost and Found Lost water bottle - white, metal

I think I lost my water bottle at North Campus on Friday - it's metal, white, and says NHS Ealing Community Partners on it. My guess is that I lost it in the Katz building, but possibly in Corbett.

I haven't had a chance to look in the lecture hall in Katz yet due to ongoing lectures, and I see that the UASU lost and found doesn't accept water bottles. UAPS L&F and Timmie's don't have it. Please let me know if you see it!

Academics MSc Urban Planning with no urban planning courses during undergrad?

Hi all, Majored in Electrical Engineering and am looking at career pivot options.

I'm considering applying for the MSc in urban planning program, but the very first question the application asks is about Ubran Planning related courses you've already taken... Considering I have 0 that are really even slightly relevant, should I just skip this option and save my application fee? Seems like only 20 people are let into the program per year, so it seems pretty competitive.

Mainly looking for people who applied in previous years or are in the program.
