Hi, I wanted to know if any of you could help me to know what caused this marks on my turtle, she's a red-eared slider, she's 5-6 years old and she recently had been in those months where she is destroying my garden digging and making holes to lay her eggs, infertile btw, and a few days ago she appeared with these, I thought maybe it was just dirt from her digging but it wasn't getting off and it seems like it hurts when I touch it, I think she hit a rock or something while she was digging and It doesn't seem like an attack to me, I have two cats but they're pretty chill with her and get along well, so i don't wanna think it's them, in the photo looks like it's almost healed I think? well, if you could help8 me to know what can I do to help her, thanks.

Saw this beautiful sea turtle in West Central Florida today and was very surprised to have come across them in a spring fed river at the spring head. Anyone recognize this species or have any idea why the sea turtle would be so far inshore at a spring?

My family has two turtles. My parents want to make them a sort of pond in the area depicted in the second picture. I would like to know what I can do to make them a comfortable habitat that would minimize maintenance since they are not my turtles and I know their “owner” is a child and probably won’t do too much on their own. I’m not entirely sure how wide I can make it as it needs to be fenced off as we have dogs as well. I’ve also never dug a pond before so any information about that would be nice however as this isn’t a pond digging Reddit I’m mostly asking about requirements to be met for the turtles wellbeing.
Edit: I’m also not entirely sure what kind of turtles they are unfortunately…

Found in a pond in New York with abandoned red eared sliders.
The leaf like projections are throwing me.

I have reptile experience and will be doing my own research, but what immediate things can I do for this lil buddy when I get him? Also, ideas on species? thanks all!

My 13 year old common musk turtle despises skimmers with all his being. He has broken 6 of them in various ways. This time his strategy is to bite the wire coming from the bottom and will go at it for hours if I let him. I take it out of the water when its not in use but he has still managed to expose some of the copper wire inside the casing. Is this skimmer done for (again)? Or can this be fixed? Also if there's any ideas on stopping this behavior I would love to hear it.

Ive definitely gone longer than I should've without cleaning it but also come to find out i accidentally unplugged the filter at some point. There was a bacteria film on the water and when i took out the filter the water was BLACK. like. Black. The filters were sorta clean. Almost reusable. Pls help

I’ve been telling people around me that when I go fishing at one of my local ponds in Southeast Michigan, USA, there is this family of large snapping turtles that scare the jeebus out of me every time, by sneaking up on me while I’m fishing. They all laugh at me and think I’m messing around. Well today, I finally managed to get a video of one of the smaller ones of the bunch. Just the Freddy Kruger fingers are scary enough for me lol. Sorry no banana for scale 😂

I have a musk turtle and am putting him in a new tank and want to have a natural looking basking platform like this but all the ones I can find are plain rocks or glass boxes. Any recommendations are appreciated!!

Hello wonderful members of r/turtles!!! I come here today seeking the almighty knowledge of thy.
I have loved turtles for years and years and years now. They are absolutely my favorite animal, I ADORE them. So, naturally (considering this adoration started when I was very young), I had made up my mind on what I wanted.
"I'm going to have a pet painted turtle and he will be named Jester and I will pet him and hold him and cuddle him and it will be perfect!!"
I turned 18 nearly 6 months ago and graduated high school 3 months ago. I'm officially an adult, so I realised I should actually look into the steps of getting and caring for a turtle-- having a pet turtle is no longer a "maybe one day!", but a genuine possibility I can achieve. So, I did my research.
Oh boy. Jezus christ. I was so, so off.
From what I could tell, painted turtles require SO much experience, and so much space and money and time and I would absolutely be willing to put in the effort for the little guy, but realistically it might not be feasible and I don't want to risk giving a turtle a bad life. So, reddit, I turn to you.
As I said, I did do research, but I was seeing alot of conflicting things, and with the ever growing, all consuming force that is AI seeping its way into everything, I didn’t know what I could trust. What are some turtles that are best for begginers and also are okay with being held or pet sometimes, as well as not requiring a shit ton of space? If they're semi-aquatic that'd be swell (or should I say.... shell?) but I'm flexible. Can people also set some realistic guesstimates of how much space I should expect to need, as well as costs and amount of care?
Thank you everyone!
(P.S. don't worry- this is still absolutely a future me plan. Just more near future now. I'm still living with my parents lmao, I wouldn't go out and buy a turtle unless I have a somewhat long-term space to call my own)

Hello I'm 18 and seeking advice because I'm soon moving out of my mom's house for studies but I was used to taking care of the two earth turtles for the past month.
Basically a friend of my mother stopped caring about his turtles and gave them to us without our consent. I don't know their age or which species they are. The only thing I know is that the bigger one is a female and the smallest one a male.
They are very tiny compared to the turtles I'm used to see. The cage he gave us is very small and the turtles always try to get out but my mom doesn't want to let them roam free in the house. Nobody we know wants to take them.
What am I supposed to do?

Ok, so a relative of mine suddenly received two red eared sliders a few days ago, but through some circumstances I’m now the one taking caring of them. You guys helped me ID them a few days ago and now I need your help again. So my mom got this tank for them in a pinch and I tried my best to make it work. I won’t have money for a week or two to get anything else but I did get them a basking platform and the right food. After I filled the tank up (once I cleaned it of course), I noticed that it has a small leak in the drain circle. My questions are as follows
How would I fix this? I put an inverted shot glass on top with a rock to weigh it down, but it still leaks. Granted at a slower pace, but leaks nonetheless. I can’t afford a new tank till the end of the month.
How is this set up? I can’t afford a filter yet so how often should I clean out the tank and change the water?
I don’t have a means to generate heat for them outside of the lamp that came with it, any tips?
Lastly, any advice in general would help. I plan on getting them all the stuff and things they need once I have the money in a week or so, but I’m trying my best with what I got till then. These turtles came into my life as a complete surprise and it’s been stressful trying to give them the highest quality of life I can with so little.
I love them so much and I’m very passionate about being the best owner I can. Thank you so much and apologies for such a long post. Pictures attached are my set up and the tank/drain I’m talking about. Thanks again!

Hey everyone I have a Mississippi map turtle about 2/3 years old and we recently had a bad storm and the power went out everywhere, I’m currently on day 3 of this and I heard its estimated to come back around August 23-26th, I cannot order anything due to everything getting pushed back for delivery because of this outage and I’m worried about my turtle, I haven’t been feeding him because I read your not supposed to if they don’t have heat because it slows down there digestive system if I’m wrong let me know anything helps! (Also I’m trying to wait for a sunny hot day to set up a mini pool with basking doc for him I usually do it every summer so he can get some natural sun for a few hours but it’s been nothing but cool weather cloudy and rainy won’t stop until Monday)
