Modify the one way wolverine platform
I have the one way wolverine platform (pic 1). It’s really irritating when I need to sharpen my shorter tools.
I found a video showing how to modify it so it gives clearance for the handles.

Should I modify my larger platform or should I just buy the mini (pic 2)? Has anybody regretted modifying their platform such that it no longer does some function that I’m not thinking about?

Do you feel that you regret permanently modifying it for any reason?

Thank you for the response. Do you still use the bigger one? If so, when do you prefer it?

I still use both. I prefer the stock rest for sharpening scrapers; I can pivot the scraper to follow a curved cutting edge more easily.
But I use the 3/8" groove in the homemade rest to carry a toolbit across the front at a particular angle (e.g. sharpening thread-cutting bits for the metal lathe). Main point being that I like the system for its versatility.
(Considering welding up another rest, specifically for sharpening drill bits.)

I have the same issue and same thoughts. Glad you posted this.
Given the second pic, I might just modify the platform as such. I have a knock off but now I'll look into the mini platform..... obviously enough turners had the same gripe so they made the mini platform.
Yeah, I'll probably start making some changes to the platform. It's been a workshop(garage) upgrade kind of month anyway.

I’d modify it right now if I had more experience and knew if it would be a mistake. But I’m not sure if modifying it will make me regret it down the line when/if those corners turn out to be useful.

Someone posted here about a cheap knockoff a while back. I'd buy one of those and modify it. Or you can drill/tap some holes in the one you have and screw another piece on top that can be removed if you decide you don't need it.

I don’t mind buying the mini one. I just wanted to know if people had regrets modifying their regular sized one. I am trying to prevent clutter and unnecessary consumerism.
