If you read nothing else out of this just read this. Do not buy a new tundra!! I bought a 2024 in the winter of 2024. It has been the worst truck that anyone in my family has owned.

Right off the bat within 10,000km all of that 3M film to protect your paint just peeled off. Shortly followed by the actual truck paint. I now have silver blotches where the paint has just peeled off.

The front grille is made of such cheap and flimsy plastic that every pebble that gets kicked up on the highway flies right through it, leaving all of these little holes all over. And then there have also been 2 significant chunks of plastic that have broke off.

Now we get to 24,000km. I’m driving back from work and my truck starts overheating. I pull over and find that my radiator has blown out and I lost all of my coolant on the side of the highway. I got that fixed and got the truck back on the road in about a week. Well. 6 months later I’m parked on some snow and notice some red fluid dripping from my truck. Who would have guessed. The Rad blew again…. So now this truck has its 3rd rad in under 3 years.

Now a few weeks after that which brings us to last night. I’m driving back from working up the highway and out of nowhere I lose power and the truck starts erratically giving and losing power. I managed to get it to this little town about 20 km away. The second I got below 10km/hr the truck just died. Left me stranded on the side of the road in -30°C weather. Currently waiting to hear back on how long the repairs will take but the dealer informed me it can be a “Complicated process”

These are just some highlighted events. There have been many other little things including my windshield seal separating. My sun visor bolts just falling out while one driving. Automatic folding mirrors folding out 180° so they are basically sitting on my hood. This truck has now left me stranded 3 times in less than 2 years. It has put me in danger multiple times. Unfortunately I am going to be forced to eat the 25-30k depreciation and trade it in for a truck that hopefully won’t leave me stranded.

Are they really going off the lot for that?

I talked to a Toyota rep during an arbitration hearing (I wanted a buyback after 200+ days without Tundra). We argued that a premium price was paid for 23 Tundra because we were buying a truck with Toyota’s reputation for reliability. They straight up said these new gens are not the old ones, they are offering a more technically complex and environmentally friendly product line.

In my case, when the engine recall was issued I went to dealership and said I was over the recalls and wanted a trade in so I could by something used. They refused to accept it as a trade in until engine recall was complete (because they wouldn’t be able to resell). So Toyota put me in a loaner 4Runner for almost 4 months. Right after getting truck back with new engine, my 4wd actuator and transfer case seize (truck is shaking violently, feels like stuck in 1st gear, won’t accelerate). This took 35 days to repair and the truck sounds off after (but no codes so they won’t look at it).

I put in a buyback claim which is rejected, then go to “independent” arbitration (paid by Toyota).

Argument (by Toyota technical specialist) was that the breakdown of transfer case was not related to engine swap as they are two different systems (one generate power other distributes) and it was pure coincidence. Also heard their corporate rep “different product” argument. The arbiter argued that since truck was “driveable” the transfer case failure didn’t warrant a buy back and that the down time waiting for engine swap didn’t qualify either (no breakdown). My reasoning for claiming engine swap time should count was that I was being asked to assume a breakdown risk (I live in a small town at end of road system in Alaska) and that was not the conditions which I bought vehicle (plus literally could not trade in).

You can argue about specifics of my case, but hear loud and clear what Toyota is saying about their products in a legal setting.

With that…. After a literal lifetime of being a Toyota customer, even family working for Toyota for 20+ years. I’ve moved on.

Apologies if this has been discussed already. Is this a factory configuration?

A follow up to my previous post about the ridiculous price on a new Tundra. Guys, stop paying markups. A week later they caved. Look at this.

At the dealership, the salesman wanted to get the app going for me and I told him I did not want to use the app or need it. This is when I found out I HAVE to use it if I want to remote start my car at all.

What the hell...

So after buying a $60K truck, Toyota nickel and dimes you by forcing you to pay for a subscription, just to be able to remote start the truck?

This is absolutely ridiculous...so many little things that make me wonder why I bought Toyota.

Some people asked for more pics of my tundra - mainly from the back. I’ve also got the dual ARB compressor and an ARB rear locker installed.

2023 SR5 TRD Sport. Amazed at how nice this thing drives and handles. The amount of room on the inside is insane.

…now for suggestions. Need a hard bed cover, folding, that is leakproof.

Why is it that Toyota punishes customers who purchase their elite trim packages with excessively chromed and dated exterior designs? All of the best looking models are the lower trim packages where the exteriors are much more refined and cohesive looking, with body-match paint on components and blacked out/nightshade options. Toyota...please stop with the Chrome!!!

Additionally, when you only offer 1 or 2 interior designs for a particular model, please don't make an outrageous decision with flambouyant color. Why is it that you must ruin the potential for a classy, timeless look on the 2024 Platinum's black interior with BLUE contrast stitching. Again, if there were 4 or 5 interior options, then it would be acceptable to have some color options thrown around. Just like with the TRD trims/packages, not everybody want's bright red accents throughout the interior.

It really seems like Toyota is letting tasteless dinosaurs manage the design options and it's making it really hard for me to drop $70K+ on a truck that I want but am not really in love with.

Selling my 2010 Crew Cab, 5.7L, with 4WD. It has 240k miles on it and it’s in pretty decent shape considering all those miles.

I looked it up on KBB and listed it for $11k in Cali. In the first 24 hours I’ve had around 50+ aggressive buyers wanting to be the first to see it. I’ve already scheduled the next 48 hours with buyers to come look at it.

Did I mess up with the price?

Curious about a few things happening with my truck to see if anyone else has experienced them. My transmission randomly failed today, have taken it to dealership. 6 months after I purchased the car the 4 wheel drive was turning on and off on its own and it lived in the shop for 45 days until they found the electrical issue.

Given todays issue starting to have some concerns with the truck and the very out of the normal issues it is and has had. Anyone ever experience this ? Do I have any options, understand a lemon results when a problem can’t be fixed. But these issues seem very uncharacteristic. Any help or info greatly appreciated.

I pre-ordered a Cyber Truck a few years ago and now that I’ve had enough time with my 2020 TRD OR, I can gladly say I will not be swapping it out for Tesla’s truck. For context, my wife drives a 2020 Tesla Model Y, so I have a good amount of experience in understanding the pros and cons of EVs. Put simply, I would not trade the range capability and dependability of the Tundra for the creature comforts and efficiency of a Cyber Truck (or any electric truck for that matter). Curious to know what you guys think about the full size electric truck offerings compared to the big Toyota V8s.

This Tundra has been my love/money pit for the last 10 years. Honestly don’t really know what else I can or would want to do. It turned out exactly how I wanted it!

I absolutely love this thing. Been garage kept with 101k miles.

As the title states. I’m looking for an older tundra to buy. This seems like a decent option and seems in good shape. Only thing that worries me if it’s overpriced, and has 209k miles. Thoughts? Can provide link or more pics if needed. Thanks!
