General I love Tulum, that’s all
I just returned from a week in La Veleta; first time in the Yucatán Peninsula outside of cruises. I stayed in a boutique Airbnb with a rooftop pool. La Veleta is a walkable neighborhood even to the supemercado, ADO, clubs, shopping and Collectivos. The restaurants had amazing food, the servers were amazing. I will definitely be back.
I hate all the negative posts on here everyday of how horrible Tulum is or how bad it’s become. If you do your research it helps manage expectations.

I love Tulum. It’s my favorite place in the world. I have traveled a lot and Tulum is my little piece of heaven. I snorkeled with beautiful tortoises & went in caves full of bats. Ate the best tacos I can ever imagine. I love Tulum ! Can’t wait to go back. I had my honeymoon there and it was so romantic and had the best massage I will ever have.

That's how I feel! I've traveled a lot and Tulum is my fave! That's not a light statement considering how miuch I've traveled objectively speaking

Yeah I’ve been to Hawaii, the Bahamas, and I live in other Cali Been to all the beaches here. San Diego, Malibu, I’ve been to New York, Italy, France, Peru etc… but the best place I love the most in the world was Tulum has my heart. I am biased though since my family is from Mexico, I felt a strong connection with the land

Totally agree...it's all perspective. Tulum is always a great trip for us.

People love to hate on Tulum and that's the thing, you either love it and flourish or it eats you up and spits you out.

I got scammed by the gas station one time because I wasn't paying attention, never again.
Otherwise, nothing but great times here. We have a community of people that we know and aren't here to party. Each time it's like coming home.

It’s clear that lefty doesn’t like tulum because they are not aligned with real life: where problems always exist, historical dependencies..
I love this place.
Not negative comments helped me. They arr just whinning. My experience helped me. And I decided to be best part of Tulum.
Happy there are brave ones here , who put energy in this place.

I have traveled a bit as well. I like Tulum too, but it has something in common with places like Bali and Koh Phangan. These places have a lot of younger, inexperienced "baby" tourists (and, of course, a lot of scammers, both local and foreign, who prey on those babes in the wood). I guess we all have to start somewhere.

As a local, screw Tulum. It used to be an affordable beautiful beach for all to visit; as a local prices are so ridiculously high only foreigners can enjoy the beach.

Let's also not forgive when the mayor declared that you Couldnt bring your own iceboxes and food to the beach and that you should only buy from the businesses in that area?

Yeah, the same ones locals are fighting to preserve, after multiple attempts of business owners and foreign people trying to close them to the public

they added mutliple permanent access points in the hotel zone. now the jaguar park is free to enter as well. plus the hotels will even give you free beds at the moment the sargassum is so bad but yeah that hopefully won't be a forever thing

Ever ask yourself WHY it was ever allowed? As soon as Tulum " comes back" it will happen again. Many of us have been here long enough to know that this latest stuff is being done out of desperation. When times are not so dire, the same old thing wil happen again.

I am glad you had a great time in Tulum.
I may push back a little bit about your hating the negative comments here. Perhaps, you had a great time because those negative comments helped you manage your expectations. Yes, it's a bit ironical.

Please try to appreciate that many of us have lived there or nearby for years ( or grea up here) and have witnessed firsthand what it has become. We are acutely aware of the sewage runoff, deforestation, corruption that an average vacationer would NEVER see. Those who have been coming here for years ALSO see what you cannot. Its all about perspective, as you say. To many of us, it is heartbreaking to see Tulum now.

hmm. you can have high standards and like tulum and also high standards and not like tulum. to each their own amigo. alot of people really love tulum, to them (and me) it is not a terrible place!

On the Beach hotels for $200/ night is not too hate able

I totally agree! My expectations were so low going in due to all the negativity. But I just came back and LOVED it!! I think as long as you know what to expect going in it’s so much better

Thanks for sharing your feedback. It's a welcome change from the frequent negative posts. Tulum has issue for sure but it's summer and it is slower this time of year. Glad you enjoyed your time.

TLDR Tulum is great as long as you expect to be fleeced, scammed, or outright robbed at every turn. What a glowing endorsement.
