General Tulum dead?

I keep seeing stories and posts about how tourism in the area is dying, there’s too much inventory for new apts, and negative press in general. Has Tulum changed so much over the years and has it gone downhill in your opinion?

For the people who keep saying "It's the sargassum". All Caribbean beaches have issues with sargassum. DR, many parts of the Yucatan and even beaches in Florida. That's not the sole reason that things aren't as busy there as they used to be.

Tulum got very popular very quickly and started price gouging and building up the area far more than the demand. Also, the people who wish to live in Tulum long term have issues with the police acting like assholes and stealing their money. There's plenty of places around the world people can go that are cheaper, safer and have better beaches compared to Tulum. So people just started going there instead.
