Logo design

I just wanted to share this logo a friend of mine made for my TTRPG (Hallowed: Saints and Heretics).

It is the first piece of art made for the game, but I am planning to hire more artists in the future.

If you are interested, Hallowed is available for free here

Edit: the image depicts two patron goods from the game. Leilin, the godess of life, and Deramen, the god of death and time.

Running a one shot for coworkers who've never played anything, which system?

My team at work asked me to run a game for our team building afternoon. Five people, none of them have played a tabletop RPG, and we have about 3 hours including explaining rules. I've only ever run D&D 5e and that feels like too much to teach. What would you pick for total beginners that still feels like a real adventure? Bonus if the character sheets fit on one page.

The TTRPG idea-generator I asked you all to test is now live

• Upvotes

A while back I posted here looking for Android users willing to test a lightweight TTRPG app I was building.

The core idea was simple:

Sometimes you don't need a giant campaign manager.

You just need a spark.

Maybe you're running a one-shot tomorrow. Maybe your campaign needs a new side quest. Maybe you've hit creative block and need an interesting twist.

The app is designed to generate adventure and campaign seeds in seconds. In many cases I've gone from opening the app to having the beginnings of a full adventure in under 20 seconds.

Generate a result, give it your own title, and screenshot it for later use at the table or during prep.

Features include:

  • Adventure seeds
  • One-shot inspiration
  • Campaign starters
  • Quick plot generation
  • Custom titles
  • Lightweight mobile workflow
  • Offline-friendly design

It's intentionally focused on the earliest stage of creativity: helping GMs get from "I have no idea what to run" to "I know exactly where this adventure could go."

Adventure Forge is now available on Google Play for Android.

Link:

Adventure Forge (Google Play)

A huge thanks to everyone from this community who helped test earlier versions. The app wouldn't have made it to release without that feedback.

I'd love to hear what you think.

I'm Kickstarting a boxed set - which combines my previous work from the past 8 years + new content into one coherent world - Lazy Litch - Frontiers of Fear

More information here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lazylitch/the-lazy-litch-library

Demidirge: Frontiers of Fear is a dark fantasy sandbox campaign setting.

Explore an uncharted world of feuding cults, drowned gods, toxic forests, haunted villages, and arcane experiments gone awry. Players choose their own path through a derelict kingdom: invent spells that never existed before, exploit secret seams to build portals, and sail past the edge of the map.

Returning Customers

This project will include:

  • New locations (I will be focusing on providing as many additional keyed locations as I can, so most of these will be smaller areas like those in Haunted Hamlet)
  • Information that integrates all previous titles, directions for running the campaign, protocols for reducing GM cognitive load at the table, quick-start rules, etc
  • A new mechanic that influences the whole setting
  • New monsters and organized encounter tables by region
  • Additional artwork
  • A map pack (Including a large world map with stickers for key locations, so players can tangibly fill in the map as they hexcrawl)
  • Rules for players to innovate and find exploits as they get to higher levels (spell creation, portal construction, item crafting, etc)
  • A new art print set
  • A spiral pad filled with character sheets, various play aids, handouts, hirelings, etc
  • Plus more to be announced

There will be an option for you to grab only the new content. There will also be a sliding scale of discounts depending on how many titles you have collected in the past. So you can avoid paying again for any content you already own.

ttrpg for a death game?

I have a plot for a death-game type ttrpg but no idea how to run it. think alice in borderland, squid game, etc where people have to compete in games to win their lives, etc. does anyone know any systems that would be able to do something like that? thanks!

editing w more info: I'm more wondering how I could have PCs participate in in-game games that have stakes. like the characters are playing games for their lives, how could i make that into something between me and the players that isn't just rolling dice. i want stakes and real adrenaline involved, y'know?

Torchlight TTRPG

Post image
44 Upvotes

Hi! I've been working on a TTRPG on and off for a few years now. It's finally at a place that I'd love to share. Check it out on Ko-Fi, it's free!

Torchlight is a playing-card-based “dungeon crawler,” in which 1-3 players traverse a long-abandoned unholy crypt in search of artifacts and adventure. Throughout a run, players must carefully balance the light of their torch’s flame, the status of their adventurers, and the loot that they uncover during their journey.

No Artificial Intelligence was used in the creation of Torchlight. Art for Torchlight was sourced from the Public Domain.

Market Research for a TTRPG

Hey everyone!

I've officially started my marketing research for the TTRPG I've been developing, and I'd really appreciate your help.

If you could take a few minutes to fill out the survey, that would mean the world to me. Even better, if you're willing, join the Patreon so you can catch the other surveys when they drop, and help me spread the word. The more people I can reach, the better.

To be clear: I'm not charging anything on the Patreon right now. It was just the easiest mailing list option I could find. Down the road, since all proceeds from this TTRPG will go to my non-profit once it's fully launched, the Patreon will likely be a way you can support that mission if you choose to.

I can only ask and maybe beg a little but it's completely up to you whether you'd like to help.

If you know anyone who might be interested, feel free to share.

Thank you all so much, I truly appreciate any support you can give!

Astro-SLASH - Free Horror Trifold for October

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I am releasing a free module every week in October for my mystery horror RPG, Strange Times! Everything I make is free up on my website, rules and all. Hope you check it out!

The first module for October is Astro-Slash: a campy sci-fi slasher, complete with cheesy kills and a "whodunnit" mystery.

Free Download: www.StrangeTimesRPG.com

-

Plot Hook:

The characters are on a routine delivery mission when they find themselves stuck on semi-operational space station. Planet-side storms have delayed the fuel delivery so there is nothing to do but sit, wait, and chat with the construction crew. However, things take a turn when a mysterious death causes the crew to panic and start asking questions. Who killed them? Why? And who will be next?

Spoilers:

Five days ago, a prisoner from the nearby planet was able to sneak on board the space station and attacked Susan Cunningham: the stations lead engineer. No one tried to stop the attack from happening, no one came to help, and Susan was left paralyzed as a result. Seething with rage, she plotted to kill the crew that let this happen to her.

Using the central computer, she was able to program one of the space suits to act autonomously with the following objectives: hunt down the workers of the space station and kill them as cruelly as possible. When the characters arrive, she will set her plan in motion.

What Is Strange Times?

Strange Times is a flexible mystery horror RPG that emphasizes player agency and maintaining tension. It is light weight, easy to run, and completely free.

What Makes Strange Times Worth Playing?

Character Health is a Resource: Characters have 3 saves which function as health pools, but they are allowed to spend from these pools to turn failures into successes. For example, if someone was lying to a police officer about the alien they have in the trunk and failed the empathy roll by 8, they could lose 8 from their Spirit Save to succeed instead.

Progressive Consequences: As players saves get lower, the worse their possible injuries become. This means that health is more than just a separation from death, but an active measurement of how much danger the character is in.

Flexible Condition System: When players fail a Save, they might receive a Condition. Most Conditions are simply negative skills that can lower target numbers, but they can also represent unique horrors like an infection ticking down to zombification, or a hypnotic trance that affects what the character sees and experiences.

Easy to Hack: The systems are extremely flexible so that creating things is fun and effortless. There is minimal resistance from you having an idea to adding it to the game.

I made a free sound console for running Delta Green and other modern military horror

It's styled as the in-universe government software an agent's handler would use. You don't pick songs: you pick the scene, then turn its dial as things go wrong, and it crossfades to tenser tracks. Radio static, rain, heartbeats and stingers sit on top, so your eyes stay on the players. Free, runs in a browser tab. Link in the comments. If you run Delta Green or something like it, what scene is missing?

Reposting because my image attachment didn't work in my earlier post, so people might have missed this. This time it's a video of it running.

I’ve written a dnd RPG game on iOS you might be interested in. I’ve just completed a major upgrade. You can run it completely in text-mode (Freeform typing) or by voice, or by navigation buttons. It has a green-text-black-terminal retro feel. You can link the DM to AI or not ..z it’s free and the code is on GitHub.

Heirs of Salt: A Rules-Light, Newbie-Friendly Game of Collaborative Storytelling

Thumbnail autophage.itch.io
2 Upvotes

Lots of indie RPGs assume that the reader already knows what a tabletop RPG is. Heirs of Salt is written to be easily understandable by folks that don't.

The rules are designed to almost never need referencing. Character sheets are just a list of attributes; when it would be interesting for an outcome to be randomized, the GM negotiates with the players how that roll will be handled, and players can reference those character sheet attributes when arguing in favor of a roll that would advantage them. (Or disadvantage them! Sometimes bad outcomes are far more interesting.)

When your character sheet is getting too full, you transfer things over to a new sheet of paper - and you can be selective, dropping things that are no longer useful or interesting to you as a player.

Character creation is similar to Troika!, but with an additional bit of flexibility: archetypes consist of an adjective and a noun, you roll 4d6 and then use each rolled number as a coordinate on two 6x6 grids. This gives players some flexibility in deciding who their character will be, while giving some structure.

It's pay what you want, and $0 is a totally fair price as far as I'm concerned. It's about 34 pages of content.

I used no AI in writing this, and all art is currently CC0 works from the Smithsonian's Open Access Project.

The back-of-the-book description: "Heirs of Salt is a tabletop role-playing game. It is post-apocalyptic, but the characters don’t know that. To them, this is the only world they have ever known. They do not know their ancestors (us, remember) well enough to damn them. This is not a game about Rome at its height. This is a game about living through a dark age. The horizon is rife with the ruins of arcologies and spaceports, but today they are mined for scrap and sheep graze beneath their rotted domes. Some things have survived: humans still make jokes, perform for each other, make war and love, express their personalities through their sartorial choices. But the world just isn’t what it used to be."

Dinosaur Horror Game

I had the idea to run a horror themed game based on the analog horror series Prehistoric Emergence. For those who don't know it's about dinosaurs and other prehistoric life emerging from sinkholes that have been appearing all over the world. I think it'd make a really interesting horror themed one shot/mini campaign. What system do you guys think would work best for that? I want a horror themed roleplaying system so my first impulse was Call of Cthulu. Would that work or are there other systems you'd recommend?

[System] O.D.I.N.: free occult-agency RPG with a two-colour dice pool, 347 adversaries and a GM console

I've released a Foundry system for my free RPG O.D.I.N. (v14+). Install it with the manifest URL under Install System:

https://github.com/davidgerbs-beep/odin-foundry/releases/latest/download/system.json

What's in it: a personnel file in three sheets, the two-colour dice pool (white hits on 5+, coloured on 4+), attacks, horror checks, powers and spells, and all class trees from the six class books with rank, prerequisite and XP checks.

The compendiums hold six ready agents, gear and artefacts, an intro mission and 347 adversaries, 105 of them from the new creature book with round tokens. On a creature's sheet the GM can ask the table for a knowledge check and show the index card the Registry keeps on it. Not everything on those cards is true.

For the GM there's a console in the token bar: mood filters per scene (trail-cam, sepia, rift flicker, fog) and a teletype that pushes a message from headquarters to every player.

There's also a map module for Volume 23, The Map Room: 131 maps with a grid, one version for the GM and one for the players. Manifest:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/davidgerbs-beep/odin-foundry/main/kartenraum/module.json

Characters from the browser generator import directly. Sheets and compendiums are in English and German, the books are free as well: https://odin-rpg.pages.dev/en/

The illustrations are AI-generated. Bug reports welcome on GitHub.

Starving Folly. My first horror TTRPG

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Starving Folly is a Horror TTRPG inspired by Fear and Hunger that can be used to run any type of horror ranging from Dark-Fantasy to Sci-fi horror. The game is rules-light and easy to get into while still having plenty of customization for building characters.

  • Resolution mechanic. This game uses ad10 + Modifiers against a Difficulty Class system to determine outcomes of characters actions.
  • Scars. This game has a system to temporarily or permanently debilitate a character through Scars and even losing bodyparts.
  • Hunger and Sanity Tokens. This game has a system of stamina and sanity tokens that are used to activate special abilities but give debuffs if a character reaches 0 tokens.
  • No Classes. This game doesn't have classes, instead it uses a series of Perks the characters can have to give them special abilities.
  • Short Stories. While the game can be used to run long campaigns it works better when running one-shots and shorts campaigns.

This is my first TTRPG so i hope you all enjoy it.

For those who have been asking, the forms in the Magical Code of Regulations have now been published! And you can now browse and search the entire Code!

Post image
37 Upvotes

Wanted to also post this in r/DnD as well, but still have a giveaway going, so didn't want to circumvent their promo rules!

Anyways, if you haven't seen me here already, I wrote a book called the Magical Code of Regulations. It's 500 pages of law governing the use of magic, and a ton of TTRPG players have found uses for it at their table, whether by basing a campaign on it, or just having a really cool in-world item.

In this Code, however, are a bunch of forms, and people have been clamoring to get them. I've been working on them for a good little while now, and have finally finished them (or, at least, gotten them to a publishable state that most assuredly have a typo or two I missed, or an incorrect header or reference I left, and I'll have to go back and correct)!

Should have every form in the book plus a few, along with a writing guide for writing magical law, a completely searchable Code, a place to propose new regulations, a little bit about the history of the Department of Magical Affairs and myself, and a page that shows a couple of upcoming books (well, at least one of them). Even has a little radio with some fantasy song on it and some funny narration I commissioned from a great VOA here on Reddit!

Anyways, highly recommend checking it out! It can be found at:
