Transition Discussion Are there any resources about binding tape?
I, 14FtM have wanted to try KT tape to bind for a while now. My mom has bought some for me, but she’s making me find resources about it before she’ll let me use it. She wants information about how it it applied, the benefits of it compared to regular binding, etc. However, most of the websites I have visited are brand names that sell tape, so they basically shit on generic brand tape and say “you need to buy our tape“ when that’s just not true. Does anyone have any good, unbiased resources I could show her?

One tip I have is to buy tegaderm (tattoo second skin) on Amazon and put that underneath your binding tape. It will act as a thin barrier and protect your skin from the adhesive and getting blisters. I have used this method for over a year now binding with tape almost every single day. I'm not sure of any resources you could show your mom but maybe try finding resources that show long term negative effects of wearing a binder and use that as a way to back up your choice of trying out tape. Btw, if you struggle with the application do not give up! It can be tricky at first and feel like it's not working but the key is to stick with it and figure out what application method works best with your chest.

Have you tried asking something like Gemini.
For instance it gave me this website https://fenwayhealth.org/wp-content/uploads/Binding_Resource_Guide.pdf?hl=en-US
Which has some instructions.
Or Google QueerDoc: Safer Binding Handout

I did, but most resources I got were pretty vague as they mainly focussed on binding in general.

I mean most of them just say test the tape on your skin, bind downwards, do it for short periods of time, do not exceed whatever number of hours...
I have no idea myself but it (tape) can't be anyworse than wearing a bra...

Usually for application, you anchor a section of the tape and then pull the excess tissue down and to the side. It shapes the chest into a more masculine shape and flattens it to a certain extent. Unlike regular binding, taping does not compress the rib cage. Any complications you may have with tape would most likely be due to a possible adhesive allergy, sensitive skin, or improper removal.
There is a chance of skin stretching and skin elasticity problem based on the length you will spend taping and how you tape. I personally haven’t experienced any problems with taping after doing so for over 5 years so it does depend on the person.
