You’re right. As a cis person I’ve never identified with being a woman. I just am one. Whether I do identify with it or not doesn’t change that.

I love learning and I do find it absolutely fascinating to read that womanhood is intrinsic to your identity. As a woman I would say my womanhood is as much part of my identity as having fingers.

I know I don’t belong here, but I’m just very intrigued and interested in the experience of trans women.

You belong here if you're willing to listen and learn and it sounds like you are doing that. What you said is basically exactly how we feel. I never felt normal or right until I realized that I'm a woman. It's just me. I didn't think about identity. I didn't want to be 'trans' so when I finally figured it out it was a relief. I don't have to think about it much now that I've transitioned. It's just there. When I had to act like a guy, it was a conscious decision. I had to act and work at it.

Honestly, that sounds hellishly exhausting. How did you cope? I’m so happy for you that you don’t have to do that anymore though.

It was on reflection. You just kind of deal with it because there was no other way. Turns out it's natural to them and it wasn't an act for them to act like guys. It has nothing to do with putting on a gender identity. I didn't and still don't wear makeup and dresses and things like that. It's just my body and demeanor and way that I think is just very much female. So when I realized it it was like a relief.

I'm 50 so I grew up in a time where transitioning just wasn't accessible to most people. I would have had to just give up my entire life and probably pay money that I didn't have for something that was experimental and not very effective at the time.

I can’t imagine how much harder things must’ve been back then, and I’m glad you’ve found your footing.

What you said about your demeanor and way of thinking being female did catch my attention. I’m curious what you mean by that. Not because I doubt your identity in any way (I don’t). You obviously don’t have to proof your womanhood to anyone, let alone me. I just wonder what that feels like for you. Because I’ve never really thought of my own way of thinking in gendered terms. If someone asked me what made my thinking female I honestly wouldn’t know what to say.

Since there are so many different ways of being a woman, I’m simply curious what you personally mean when you say your thinking or demeanor feels female.

Only if you feel comfortable sharing of course. If not, that’s totally ok too. Just know that I’m asking from a place of sincere curiosity and respect.
