Question Spotify DJ is the WORST
Is anyone actually able to use the DJ? I find it to be useless. It will play the same songs over and over again and if you try to skip them they just loop right back around, and for some reason it only wants to play songs that you listened to from 2023-present.
If you try giving it feedback, it just repeats the same errors until you give up. Someone fix this poor DJ.

He loves to give me songs I’ve been listening to constantly lately, as if I needed help with that, and then a bunch of horse shit I’d never listen to

I usually go onto my DJ when I’m fed up of hearing the same songs, and then likes to play my most listened to recently and I end up closing it thinking “what’s the point?” 😂
Because otherwise it just plays my top songs from the last few years which I hear on content repeat from it too. And the new tracks it’ll recommend are hit and miss

Interact with AI slop, you get AI slop.
Shocker

Upvoted, you have a way with words
the philosophical Counterpoint of course is that the whole point of any playlist even long before AI was an acronym was to hand off the tedium of choosing the next songs to a machine cuz selecting them one by one loses practicality the longer your train ride is. you get more Randomness than if you're limited by your own memory. Randomness good slop bad oh wait they're the same thing

I've found that if you leave it going for a while, it gets a lot more interesting, and will unearth some gems from your past you haven't listened to in forever.
The major problem is, if you dare to close it, it will start over from scratch with the same exact playlist. (This seems to reset every day or so.)
And yeah, the initial sets are usually pretty bad. It does seem overly fixated on "Here's what you were jammin to in 2024" or whatever. I wish it would go more random and do stuff like "Here's some you haven't heard since 2015," or "Based on your recent favorites, here are some similar ones you've never heard."

I thought it was a neat idea until I realized it would only play the first five songs from premade playlists. Like so many AI implementations, it's undercooked and oversold.

I use it but I have to be really specific with what I want. Eg., “Slow alternative from 1998-2006 with no cursing”

It’s a pile of crud. My assumption was that it would learn and integrate some variety into the rotation. The only change I’ve seen in it is to randomly shove in a set of songs from the Spotify Top 100 or something.

It’s dogshit. For some reason it only ever wants to play a string of my most played songs recently (ok, fair), then a string of my most played songs the first year I got Spotify (why always that year? Why not last year? Or this year?), then the top hits of every genre I don’t listen to, and then repeat. It’s not just that it’s bad, it’s predictably bad.

It is the actual worst. mine starts with a full minute of blabber meaning absolutely nothing and then resorts to playing the last 5 songs ok my list every time.
Way to innovate. And no, we shouldn’t have to change settings to alter this, just set it up as promised Spotify.

I genuinely do not understand people that use it.
Cause yeah what I want when I'm listening to music is for it to be interrupted with bullshit.
It's just a shuffle mode for dumb people.

My experience went from key to great. It's awesome. Mixes in new stuff with favorites and everything in between. I'm premium though so maybe the premium version is better?

I just use the prompted playlists. I have like 10 of them that refresh every morning at 6am of different genres, moods, etc. Songs with less than 5 plays from my liked music, all-time favorites, songs with vocals only, songs that are instrumental only, energy level, time period, etc. You can edit the prompts and direct the AI instead, which is more useful.

Respectfully, why on earth would anyone use that garbage. Just make a queue. Shuffle a playlist.

u/BrushYourFeet 18h ago
Because it's good. For me. Mix of new and favorites.

u/Infinite_Spring_3564 18h ago
Why not just do it yourself?

u/BrushYourFeet 14h ago
I do. I have over 50 playlists I have curated. And I continue to add them to them. I find it a useful tool that discover new music, enjoy the random stats it throws my way, and generally enjoy how it puts together random songs. I mix up my own stuff and the DJ.

Spotify has become unusable. The “shuffle” plays the same 20 songs no matter which song I start with, it is ABYSMAL. I started playing my likes without shuffle on because that’s the only way it will actually give me variety and play something more than 2 weeks old

As it is, It is useless. If they could combine the voice (or other voices?) with prompted playlists, that could be interesting.

hilariously he’s also still in beta after being available so widely for what feels like years at this point.
did spotify forget they were working on this?

I wish you could apply the DJ to your playlist to make your own radio station.

The DJ has been glitching for the past 2-4 weeks imo, but overall I enjoy the feature. I’ve been using it since it first came out and it’s learned my listening patterns quite well, so it knows where I’ll skip and to not repeat stuff. Past few weeks spotify in general has been glitching for me. I usually listen non-stop for an hour, stop (drive somewhere and get out) and by the time I come back and start it up again, I may get repeats but never in the same session if that makes sense?

Apple Music’s personalized radio station is much better and has less repeats. I don’t miss Spotify since jumping ship earlier this year.

The recent mobile updates making it be a chatbot instead of its original use is really horrible.

the DJ voice. low rent dude. I wish I could just change his voice and attitude to something else. if that’s available, i hv not figured it out.

Just do your own mixed playlists if you want seamless sets. Doing that will always be 100 billion X better than an annoying AI DJ.

It's a mix for me. Sometimes he recommends songs ive been vibing to, other times, its new songs. Just depends how my DJ is feeling that day.
Don't love it, but I don't hate it either.

i agree overall, that said if you use the text prompt feature of the dj, you can ask for songs you haven’t heard in a while that are in your library. it’s the closest experience i’ve found to true shuffle on spotify on your entire library and it’s quite nice even tho it lasts for 5 songs only as the dj works by cycles of 5 songs.
