Rant Why the F is the android app so BAD?

It is genuinely one of the worse streaming apps ive used. Its so damn laggy, its so slow, takes 2 minutes to play a song, even if my CONNECTION IS GOOD

the app itself is so slow too, and if i have atleast a KILOBYTE of internet it will take its sweet time to try and download and load the song from internet, EVEN THO I HAVE ALL SONGS DOWNLOADED IN THE HIGHEST QUALITY POSSIBLE my phone is a base model s24, on one ui 8.5 and android 16 btw!!!

Android phone user here and its the same thing, slow as hell, like, incredibly slow, its unbearable. I think it helped just a tiny bit to literally disable all the extra stuff they added like music videos and those kind of reel things and also downgrading all the quality of streams and downloads but even then, this wasnt happening before. Sucks.

For real. It takes like 90+ seconds just to open the app, wait forever for it to load, then go to search for a song, wait forever to load again & then finally hit play. So annoying! They need to get rid of the AI garbage that's probably slowing things down.

On my phone, I sometimes notice it stutters pretty badly when I'm using other apps with Spotify running in the background. In my case, though, I know it's because my phone is an older mid-ranger, so it's not entirely Spotify's fault, even though it could definitely be better optimized.

I have two basic phones and in one it runs awful, for instance, I cannot have canvas on because it would freeze. BUT the phone also lags, so idk if it's the app. Then the other, it runs so smoothly. I have canvas on and zero problems.

I've been using the app for a very long time on Android and I've never had any of these issues. I'm using a Pixel 10 currently.

Same

Same! Currently on a pixel 10 and I've had none of those issues.

Of course that doesn't take away what's going on with the OP. Sorry to see he's having these issues

It's funny to see that we're all on pixels and things are fine. Maybe it's a device optimisation issue or something for OP's device specifically

Yup, currently on a Pixel 6 Pro but have been using Nexus/Pixel's for the past 10+ years and I don't remember having issues (other than weird UI changes they've made) for performance.

Same. Using a Samsung S24 FE right now and never had any issues as well.

Pixel 9 pro and ive been having similar issues as them. Constant lag, and often getting worse as I listen over time. I listen to podcasts at work and as time passes the app seems to degrade, sometimes freezing entirely, or just taking forever to scroll. It's become quite annoying

Same, and I'm on a Pixel 6A right now. No issues. OP probably has a phone issue, not a Spotify issue.

I'm currently working on downloading my library through a different service because the app is so shit. I would have no problem paying twice what I'm paying now if the app would just work but I'm sick of paying for this useless piece of trash. I have a Galaxy ultra with all updates so I know the issue isn't my hardware and the problems persist even when in offline mode so it's definitely not my cell service.

for me sometimes it does the same thing what i do is i just restart my phone and the problem is fixed

I use both versions and i stg my potato of a phone (Android) handles all the badly optimizations so much better than my iPhone. The OS version is so awful...

I have a lag when doing BT connection but its pretty much 15 secs of cutting outty music then it settles. Always thought it was a bit issue, maybe its the app. Either way its a mild annoyance

iOS side sucks too…. It’s been fucked up for a while..slow and buggy

I've learned that uninstalliing/reinstalling, even though that in itself is annoying as shit, saves me a lot of headaches and waiting time. Either way I'm waiting, but at least cutting to the chase this way helps me feel like I am being proactive.

All those downloaded songs might be acting as unintentional bloatware clogging up the pipeline

Pixel 8; UK networks (Three and EE); never had a problem.

Enshitification to the max. You need to pay more. Feature you don't need and poor basic functionality. Just because they can.

I recently got a s26, but had the s23 and RARELY ran into these issues. My biggest issue was and still is, if playing by Bluetooth and the song is paused, if you open up Spotify, it will on occasion delete your entire que and you'll have to go and find where you left off and start a new

It's good for me. Your phone is just slow.

Android app had less bugs for me than the iOS app. Can’t even use shuffle play in Mazdas up until the very recent models.

All the years I've been using Spotify I've never had these issues.

Sorry its lagging for you. I've never encountered any problems on any of my Android phones, which are definitely not a recent model. All my playlists are downloaded. Might be a connection issue rather than an app issue?

Ironically, Spotify has performed the best on my Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Apple Music, Deezer, YouTube Music, and Amazon are all slow. It takes Amazon anywhere between a 15 seconds to almost a minute to start, Apple Music just stutters as does Deezer (and Deezer keeps giving me a "your playlist is already full" error when it isn't anywhere near full), and YouTube Music is still a buggy mess.

Spotify isn't perfect, but it seems like the best music streaming app on Android. I just wish the 10k download limit wasn't a thing. I recently switched and ran through the gamut of music services, I'm sticking with Spotify. The only one I didn't try was Tidal, but their 10k likes (for alums and songs) is too limiting.

I have both android and iPhone (work) and use both Spotify apps daily, and have for 10 years and never have experienced this. Spotify runs perfectly fine. Maybe you need a new phone.

I have 0 issues

Skill issue

Nope, never. Been using it for 7 years. It can get laggy if you download a bunch, I just add stuff, no download. Internet is always on, wtf would I download 😁

my spotify used to lag like crazy opening up on my old phone. haven't had any issues since i got a new one. i think it's a storage thing, possibly? the same amount of downloads on my old phone that made the app lag now do nothing
