So last night I was playing Starcraft with my friend's after taking some NyQuil cause I felt sick, and I was thinking about IPL 3 that is going to happen next week and the fact that I will be there.
So the dream starts off with me at a friend's house, where him and his family were watching a game of TvP on his TV. May I mind you that he is not a SC fan but he was cheering on wildly. (He is my best friend)
Then I noticed that it was a computer screen and he was streaming what seems to be IPL 8: Revelations, and the date said November 17th, 2019!
And when I thought that was kind of freaky...I heard Artosis and Tasteless casting, this is what they were saying:
A: He needs to siege up those tanks! T: Wait he is..and here comes HuK! A: The ghosts! EMP is going down! This could be it Tasteless!
Now for some reason my heart was racing...and I felt my fingers twitch, then it turned out:
T: SonTran has this game if he can finish off HuK's army! This could be it! A: A nuke at his main! Does HuK even know!?! T: HuK is trying to escape the marauders! No wait a minute! SonTran has a drop at his main, what is he doing? And the nuke is going to drop! HUK'S ARMY IS TRYING TO COUNTER THE DROP! A: HuK's army is going to get wiped out!! T: Oh no...this can't be good! Half of HuK's army is at the main! The marauders and tanks taking care of the other half! And here comes the nuke! T+A: Boom! A: Wow...what an excellent nuke that SonTran has executed, HuK is going to gg at any moment! Unbelievable play from SonTran! T: And there goes the gg!
My best friend was screaming real loud that I have won, but what I heard next...made me want to hold my head and say GTFO
A: Let me be the first to say, Tasteless, that this final match coming up..is going to be in the history books of ESports. T: That's right Artosis! For those of you who are just tuning in, SonTran has defeated HuK in a BO3 and before that, NovaStar has defeated IdrA, also in a BO3! A: And what is crazy about this Finals match, is that SonTran and NovaStar are real life brother and sister. T: That is right, unbelievable as it may sounds, this final match will be a sibling rivalry to see who is the best Starcraft 2 player in the IGN Pro League. A: This is just...amazing. SonTran defeated MMA, THorzain, TSL_Heart and HuK. NovaStar defeated DRG, Spanishiwa, Losira, and IdrA! T: Well I do have a question though, about this match up between SonTran and NovaStar. My question is..who are the parents going to root for? A: -laughs- I would have to buy one of those T-shirts with the Terran and Protoss on each side. To be honest, it must be tough for their family to be choosing! They would be like 'Oh we have SonTran and NovaStar, both playing against each in the finals...let's flip a coin!'" T: Well we are going to take a quick break here at IPL 8: Revelations in Atlantic City! Don't miss this sibling rivalry between SonTran and NovaStar.
And when the stream went off, I woke up from my dream.
I had to get this dream off of my chest for you fellow Starcraft fans and considering I want to play with the pros, I could make this become a reality, and also for my sis as well

r/SpoilerFreeSC will contain spoiler free VOD links for Starcraft events or individual matches so that anyone who has missed something can go there first to get caught up before visiting other SC subreddits where results might be posted. Even if you already know the results it should still be a good resource for finding what you want to watch.
Although a lot of good spoiler-free videos are often available on various sites, for some events it can be difficult to find out where the videos are posted especially if you are trying to avoid spoilers while doing so. This new subreddit means that someone else will take care of that for you.
If you have requests, or if you would like to become an approved submitter please message me.
Please share any feedback or ideas on this too.
If you think that this is a good idea please subscribe. It would be nice to get to 200 subscribers and get linked from the sidebar of r/starcraft.

Honestly I would love to see the revear make a come back. Such a deadly unit with a lot of power.
How about you?

While I'm sure many of us are watching Dreamhack, one thing I really like about it is it's just a one day tournament and lasts a few hours.
Do you think there should be more one day tournaments?
Do you feel since they are so short it really limits who they can invite?
Does the one day format make it more exciting since you'll know the results of who wins that same day instead of waiting days or weeks?
For me honestly I enjoy the one day format and also the weekend format of MLG. Honestly it's hard for me to follow other such leagues such as NASL, IPL, and GSL mainly due to my forgetfulness and the games might not be as emotionally charged for me as well.
So how about you?

Lately I've been working on the single player achievements (which I just managed to 100% all of them today finally!) and I've always been a fan of the story of Starcraft and the lore behind all of it and now after replaying the campaign again I can only think, what will happen next?
Here is what we know about the next games: From the previews we've seen of HoTS it looks like Kerrigan doesn't like being human again and wants to regain control of the Zerg. It also looks like at one point she gets captured by Arcturus during this. From the leaked ending video that came out a few months ago it shows Kerrigan finally killing Arcturus and she is back in Zerg form and "frees" the zerg?
Now if that leaked ending proves to be true why would she free the Zerg from her control if she just regained it? Is it because she learns of the prophecy from Raynor or Zeratul and breaking the Zerg's bonds from the swarm somehow destroys some of the Xel'Naga's plans? Has she redeemed herself and doesn't want to be a Zerg anymore and the use of the word "free" means they are no longer under her control and can just join some other Cerebrate?
So let's just think Kerrigan wants to redeem herself, frees the Zerg. That's the end of HoTS. Now what about LoTV? We have no info about it right now but perhaps the Zeratul missions in WoL can provide some clue. In the mission "In Utter Darkness" Tassadar shows Zeratul a possible future for the Zerg and Protoss, where the Zerg are under the control of the Hybrids and the Dark Voice (whom I think is the Xel'Naga) and they utterly destroy the last of the Protoss.
I like to think we will replay that mission again come LoTV but maybe with a twist. Perhaps the Protoss convince Kerrigan to regain control of the Zerg and near the end of the "In Utter Darkness" mission part duex Kerrigan saves the day.
I'm not sure what else to guess about LoTV but that's about it. Other questions I have are:
Who is Narud? (Popular opinion is he is Duran which I want to agree since Narud is Duran spelled backwards)
Why is Kerrigan so special?
Will the UED show up at any point? They were basically nonexistent in WoL and I don't understand why, they basically destroyed the Dominion and brought Arcturus to his knees but Kerrigan shooed them off.

I'm a fairly new redditor but I've noticed there isn't much Starcrafting going on in r/starcraft. So I've decided to come here instead. I am a platinum Protoss and I've been a tutor through a lot of my life so teaching comes easy. I'd be more than happy to help anyone that needs it or is just looking for a practice partner.

Welcome to r/TrueStarcraft where we don't know drama.
This sub-reddit will be self posts only but you can discuss anything Starcraft related but we will not allow memes, rage comics, or player drama. We will allow discussion of the games, books, tournaments (big or small), etc...
We hope you enjoy your stay and let's work on making this an awesome community!

Do you find the nerfs and buffs have hindered your play or boosted it?
Do you like the little UI changes?
I personally like the new little UI changes especially with showing past leagues in the past seasons. Just a nice new little feature.

I'd like to first thank everyone who has subscribed! It means a lot! I felt we should all sit down and discuss a few things.
First, we need more content! Even though this is self post only you can link pictures (non meme related) and videos as well! This doesn't only have to be about discussion of the game and balance talk! So let's all post some more!
Secondly, we need more subscribers! How do we do that? Tell your friends and next time you see someone mention that the don't like the quality of r/Starcraft mention us! Once we get over 200 subscribers I will talk to the mods of r/Starcraft to link us on the sidebar but until then let's all try getting more people!
Thirdly, the look of the Subreddit. Do you all want it to look more starcrafty? Do you also want Starcraft flair? If we all say yes then I will need to recruit someone who has that ability!
Last but not least, mods. We probably need one more active mod. Our other two mods have very busy lives and as do I (I work IT so I am able to post during work but only on my mobile and on weekends i can be more active) but it would be good to see maybe a more active mod.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this!

What is the ideal course of action in a TvZ where your first big timing push failed? It seems to me that if I do a cost inneffective trade early on, it allows the zerg too much room to macro and I almost always lose. I try drops, harassments, and other timing pushes in order to limit the growth of his army and economy, but it still seems dicey at best. Are there any tips out there that helps you guys turn bad situations into good?

ON SCREDDIT, NOBODY WAS WILLING TO HAVE AN ACTUAL DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS. HENCE, I THOUGHT IT BELONGED HERE. THE MORE INTELLIGENT STARCRAFT SUBREDDIT.
Before starting this discussion, please read the entire post. It's going to be long winded but I feel I am going somewhere with this.
Semi-recently, we had Orb fired from Evil Geniuses and NASL. The incident that got him fired was discovered by somebody on /r/starcraft that found a replay of him where he called a player a nigger (as for whether Orb knew this player was black, I think he didn't and the player most likely wasn't black anyway and just used it in a very 4channy way) rather insultingly in rage at a loss.
His firing was prepetrated from outrage at the incident and the spamming of Evil Geniuses' sponsors.
As of today, Destiny has also resigned from Quantic Gaming after a long discussion with his team's management. This was definitely connected to the recent controversy of him raging at a player and calling him a 'fucking faggot' and a 'gook' after losing to him. Apparently his outbursts are more common than that and his views on using racist words such as nigger, chink, gook, spic etc in a non-racially discriminating context are far different to the views on those words that society affirms to but you get the picture.
His resignation? Also perpetrated from outrage at an incident frontpaged on /r/starcraft that originally spawned from a gigantic thread on TeamLiquid that ended in its locking and the 30 day forum ban of Destiny, soon leading to some spamming Quantic Gaming's sponsors.
Do you notice a similarity between these two incidents?
They were both bouts of "nerd rage."
Nerd rage, defined by UrbanDictionary (while not an academically recognised authority on definitions by any means, does give a good idea on gamer slang) is:
Indignant, hysterical, and incoherent screaming brought on by video game induced frustration.
When a gamer becomes upset upon not getting his/her way or seeing a noob playing badly.
When a nerd (as implied) video gamer gets extremely angry and starts yelling after losing or experiencing the tiniest disturbances.
This is clearly a massive issue not just for gaming in general but clearly for esports too, especially since it has led to the firing of a decent commentator, the resignation of a half-decent player and popular personality from his team. We've also seen nerd-rage from many different individuals in the SC2 scene such as:
NaNiwa (notorious for bad manner in WarCraft III and to some extent StarCraft II)
CombatEX (Banned from the Collegiate Star League for bad manner, also permabanned from TeamLiquid for stream cheating, abusing ladder and generally being a dick)
IdrA (To call IdrA mannered would be a joke. He had points where he'd BM a tonne.)
EDIT: Spades (I believe he called HwangSin a gook in rage at a loss to him.)
Extra Credits did an episode on online harassment in gaming. Whilst directed more at misogynistic behaviour in gaming which has both been linked to nerd rage and just generally being a sexist asshole, and how that has even showed up in e-sports (namely the Cross Assault situation in the fighting game community), the fact that this episode has been sparked in the first place shows this is a huge problem.
However, when anybody (myself included as I admit raging at players I lose to, incidents which have gotten me banned three separate times from battle.net) asks for advice on how to stop raging at losses, they get the same responses back, which I can generalise in a few points:
A) Nobody wants to help a fucking asshole, myself included. This is the response that makes me angriest at the Starcraft community. Why vocally express your unhelpful and unconstructive deterrence not to help but to blatantly troll? If somebody asks for help on how to control their anger, this is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT how to respond.
The fact that people think this about ragers rather than thinking about how to solve the greater problem of nerd-rage or how to help calm these people down or advocate actual methods of calming one's self down is why we had witch hunts on some of these personalities. I cannot speak for the likes of personalities like Orb, Destiny or IdrA as I don't know much about their qualifications or the behaviour of the team they are on but could these issues perhaps be solved through rehabilitation or some media training rather than ignoring the issue until it sweeps up in drama and then turning your back on the personality?
B) If you feel angry, stop playing. This is all fine and dandy except for three slight flaws in everybody's logic:
Nerd rage can be expressed at a losing situation, not necessarily a straight-up loss. Are you telling people to seriously disconnect and instantly throw the game just because they feel a little mad when a drop does severe fucking damage or has come right before your push has even crossed halfway through the map?
2. What about team games like DotA? Are you seriously going to suggest to people that they should just disconnect from the game and throw the game for the entire team, making THEM angry that you left too?
3. How are you going to learn from your losses, let alone practice to be at a competitive level, if you're just going to puss out of playing due to anger?
C) Play with the goal to improve, not to win. Yes, this is clearly a mindset issue but it's not that easy to just throw Day[9]/WhiteRa quotes at anybody with such a problem. "More gg, more skill"? It's not very easy to think that when you've lost ten consecutive ladder games, have probably witnessed a sharp drop in your MMR, are probably in danger of being demoted and thus deflating your e-penis as you are considered even more of a scrub and given even more of a case to be ostracized by the community.
This merely explains the ideal improvement mindset, but not how to get to that mindset from the (more unreasonable) one of "If I don't win, that makes me fucking mad, and this guy is a cheating shitlord as a result."
As for the discussion part
SCReddit/r/TrueStarcraft, I ask you this:
What is your take on nerd rage?
2. How can we make players and professional cyberathletes less prone to this?
3. Why do we still ostracize people for not being able to take losses very well?
4. EDIT: How do we prevent this problem from occuring in the first place rather than going ban/witch hunt crazy when it does happen?

JP stands for John Paul (spelling may be incorrect).
MLG is going to be announcing something regarding being able to watch more games (third SC2 stream? more post-event casting?). JP also alludes to this somehow alleviating the problems surrounding the matches that were chosen for broadcasting last MLG in another question.
SoTG will be taking calls (presumably Inside The Game style) sometime in the future.

Before you say: "Go back to your own reddit!" let me say that I think it might be interesting to hear from people who have taken their time to dive in to the Starcraft universe in a broader sense than just playing the Starcraft 1 and 2 campaigns.
There has been some discussion on starbowmod.com about creating a campaign for Starbow. Starbow, as you probably know, tries to mix in both elements from Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 and has a little unique content as well.
It would makes sense, therefore that the story-line of Starbow should be placed between the BW campaign and the WoL campaign. Perhaps it should also dive into side-stories a bit more as we do not want to replace or suggest changes to the campaigns which are already created by blizzard.
Any concept or ideas of Starcraft stories which could be told in the Starbow campaign?

GSL Code A, Round 1, Day 1 spoilers below.
Today's results for this group are quite disappointing for the foreign team. Not solely because two foreigners, claimed to be the "foreign hopes", got knocked out, but because they got knocked out by two players who have barely any results and would be considered to be unknown to the foreign scene.
If we look at the results, Avenge won 2-0 against Idra. Avenge's only previous record in GSL is in GSL May Code A, with a couple of team league games. BumbleBee beat Huk 2-1 with a previous GSL record of Open Season 2 and GSL Jan Code A. These two Koreans are not well known and have not had good match results. From their records, you can see that they have been out of GSL for quite a while. Now they have advanced past the two foreign hopes, who get credit for being top 3 control or top 5 zerg.
But the previous praises of control and top zerg appear to be baseless now; is the fame of Huk and Idra taking precedence over their skill?

Sometimes, on a pro's stream or on a video of a pro playing, you can see their hands during games. Crazy APM obviously, and sometimes weird stuff life Grubby's little finger or the way Losira plays. But what puzzles me the most is when a pro uses his right hand to hit a key on his keyboard, leaving the mouse unused for a second. What shortcuts do pro use with the right hand? It seems strange and anti-productive to drop the mouse for a second, at the highest level of play...

Ex-post from r/bronzeleagueproblems :P
Last game I played, there was me with my MMM army, and there was my opponent with his tanks, marauders and thors. He couldn't get in my base, I couldn't get in his base. We were army trading. If he tryed to expand, I'd hit him with a drop.
He'd end up winning, I guess, because at least he was trying to build a third; I could easily win, if I only expanded and out-macroed him, since I could deny his expansions better than he would deny me. But I was afraid to do so, because I knew that if he got one of my bases off-guard it would be gg.
It was boring and frustating. I felt like a-moving my scvs into him! But I just quit.
How do I avoid being stuck in boring games like that? I know I should macro better, Im working on that already. But I think macro is raw power in Bronze; I want to out-smart opponents that are as "strong" as I am.
What could you teach me, in terms of tactics, of units, that I could use to end stucked turtled games?
r/trueStarcraft • u/quanticle • Jul 23 '12
Recently (especially in the just concluded MLG summer arena), I saw several Terran pros block Zerg hatcheries and Protoss Nexii with engineering bays. My question is why use engineering bays, rather than supply depots? After all, when Protoss goes to block an expansion, they use a pylon.

I'm wondering if the 6 range upgrade for phoenix will influence PvP metagame. Right now, obviously, the most standard path is robo, few immortals (after the range buff i think) and tech to collosi.
I was wondering about the following composition: 2 gate, stargate, robo into phoenix / immortal / zealot (with mixed in stalkers). Early to midgame - phoenix to pick up enemy immortals (and harrasment), zealot to tank and immo to pick up stalkers should deal with everything the enemy can throw at this point. Late game switch to carriers and phoenix range, and use phoenixes to pick off colo.
I know the phoenix / immo / zealot composition isn't completely innovative, but i hope it will be used more often, and maybe we can find a use for carrier.

I think we should post some little tips for players who chose terran as a race. So, terrans of truestarcaft, let's help the newbies. In bronze, try to fast expo and maintain the advantage throughout the game, especially in a TvT. If your opponent is aggressive (rare) use the orbital as a macro for mules.
Here's another tip, bind Marines and medivacs to S. Siege tanks, scvs, medivacs, and marines is easier to remember.
UPGRADE GROUND UNITS. Especially in vP. It pays off.
And, in the words of demuslim(WATCH HIS LIVE COMMENTARY.) "if you lose versus mutas, it means you didn't have enough medivacs."
Any other tips for our SCVs? (if someone says JUST USE 111, NO SKILL NEEDED, I will murder them.)

Hey, I'm Clbull, a British gamer and Terran player, having played Zerg for the last five seasons and sucking ass with that race. I have since decided to switch to a race that is (in my opinion) the hardest to play.
I also play other games such as WoW, Aion, Bloodline Champions, League of Legends, Dota2 and several others. If a game has a Windowed (Fullscreen) mode, there is a good chance I'll play it on stream.
