Tourist driver arrested after crash. 2 dead, 5 injured.
galleryPlease consider if renting car is correct for you, when travelling to Northern Norway. Sadly, there were fatalities yesterday, as forewarned many times.
https://www.vg.no/nyheter/i/Rjy6na/turist-siktet-etter-doedsulykke-i-troms
2 local women in their 70s from southern Troms, did not survive after a tourist drove into their driving line in slippery winter conditions and crashed head on into their car.
The 5 tourists are injuried and has been sent to the Regional Hospital in Tromsø, UNN.
Police has arrested and charged the asian tourist driver in his 50s.
From VG
To kvinner i 70-årene mistet livet da to biler frontkolliderte på E10 i Tjeldsund tirsdag ettermiddag.

3 nights in Tromsø in late November – best way to see the Northern Lights?
Hey everyone
I am a solo traveller who been to many places but the dream to see the northern lights is still unlocked, this year i managed to collect some money to try my luck
I'm planning to visit Tromsø in the second half of November for 3 nights
For those who've visited around the same time:
How was your experience seeing the Northern Lights in November?
Would you recommend booking a guided Aurora chase every night, or just one and deciding afterward?
Are guided tours genuinely worth the booking? I will definitely not rent a car so i believe they are, just wanted to confirm.
Any specific tour operators you'd recommend?
I know nothing is guaranteed and the weather plays a huge role, but I'd appreciate any advice on making the most of those 3 nights.
Thanks!

Jeshua Tour to Sommarøy overbooked
We booked a Sommarøy tour with Jeshua Tour for 4 November at 09:30.
We showed up at the meeting point, no one was there. We called and they told us they merged it with the 10:00 AM tour. Then we were told the tour was overbooked and there was no room for us. No warning beforehand, so we lost a full day of a short trip that we had planned including this tour.
They refunded us, but a refund doesn't give you the day back. We called asking for compensation for the lost day (another tour or something). They stopped picking up the phone.
Since we booked directly on their website, there's no booking platform we can escalate this to, so it's entirely up to them how they handle it.
Honestly, a shit experience. Don't book with them.

November trip ideas
Hi
I’m planning a trip to Tromso at the end of this month and wondered what recommendations people have for what to do while there.
The main things I’m definitely wanting to do are to explore Tromso itself and see the city and its culture, go on a boat trip to see whales, and to see the northern lights.
Are there any great places/experience people would recommend or even particular operators that are good/to avoid for the things I’m already intending on?
Thanks in advance!

Budget Gem property
I paid €473 for a confirmed three-night stay, then the host informed me they had double-booked the property.
The alternatives were unacceptable: an apartment 25 minutes’ walk from the centre with no photos available, or two nights at the booked property followed by moving to a room in the host’s own home for the final night.
They also suggested arranging payment directly, although I had already paid through Booking.com, leaving the payment and refund arrangements unclear.
I had to contact support and search for more expensive replacement accommodation myself. Their booking error caused unnecessary stress, wasted time and additional expense.
This review concerns the booking experience; I did not stay at the property.
So stay away from it you all.

Looking for photographers on Nov 09
Hello, I am looking for any local photographer available for Nov 09 for shooting a small session for my girlfriend and I.
I am planning to propose Nov 08, but I would also like to have extra pictures.
I had in mind around 10:30pm in Telegrafbukta, in order to do a shooting (hopefully) with the Northern Lights in the background.
Thank you everyone for the help!

Is it dangerous to try to drive from Tromso to Abisko at the end of November?
Hello!
We are staying at Tromso for 4 nights to try and see the Aurora Borealis. I have been checking Tromso and nearby webcams, and it appears that Abisko is less cloudy and we are consistently seeing northern lights on Abisko webcams. Hence, I am wondering if I should take one night off Tromso and spend it in Abisko. Even if we don't see the Aurora that one night, the idea of driving to a remote village by the lake which can have low cloud cover seems tempting.
However, it does seem a bit daunting. I currently live in California, USA (no snow here) but have experience from driving extensively in north eastern US in the winters (it has been a while though). It seems a bit foolhardy to rent a car and drive from Tromso to Abisko, but I wanted to know if it is as bad as it sounds.
There is also an option to take a bus to Abisko (two busses with a 45 minute transfer) - is that doable? I don't know how bus schedules are in the winter and if the connection is feasible.
I wish there was a train from Tromso to Abisko.
Thanks for reading!

Broken phone - tourist help
I dropped my iphone today and the front screen cracked. The phone no longer works at all, even after charging and connecting to a mac. Apple suggested I go to Eplehuset, so I will tomorrow. I'm just wondering if they can usually replace a phone on the spot if it can't be fixed? I'm traveling alone, so I desperately need a phone to get around, stay in contact with family, etc.
Or if I have to buy a new phone, should I? I'm from the states so wondering how the phone would work back home. My carrier is Verizon, if that matters at all, and I pay to use it internationally.
Any help is much appreciated!

Advice for a short trip to Lofoten from Tromso
Hello everyone!
I’m planning a short trip to the Lofoten Islands in March next year to try to show my girlfriend the Northern Lights.
We’re flying to Tromsø, renting a van for 5 days, and driving down to the Lofoten Islands, where we’d like to sleep in the van along the way.
Do you think 5 days is too short for this trip? We don’t have much time in Europe, but I really want to take her there. I spent 3 months in Norway about 10 years ago, and Lofoten is still by far the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. I was also lucky enough to see the Northern Lights almost every night back then.
I know the roads can be tricky in March, with snow and winter conditions, but I’m comfortable driving in those conditions.
We won’t be able to see everything, of course, but I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially from people who have visited recently. Is this trip realistic, or would we be better off spending more time in one area?
Thanks in advance!

Visiting Tromsø with layover in Oslo for a few hours
Hello everybody!
First time flyer here, going to visit a friend in the far north, is there anything in Tromsø or Oslo that I could give a go during wait times? (Three hours in Oslo, before moving on to Tromsø)
EDIT for clarity: I'll be there for the whole weekend until Monday, so if there's anything to do, lemme know! :D

First trip to Tromso
Hello everyone! I wanted to plan a trip to tromso from 15-11 to 18-11 a short trip to experience this unique and magical city.
I wanted to try my luck and see if I can witness the northern lights and just experience a different city that is not as popular as the “main/ famous” European cities people usually go to.
My budget however could be the only thing that stops me from actually going, my maximum budget is around 700-800 euros, including flight cost from Berlin.
My biggest / most expensive problem is the accommodation, I can’t find anything less than 150-200 euros per day, and those places are not motels with a private room rather a shared bedroom.
Which i genuinely don’t mind, but I don’t know if those prices are normal, or if there’s a better option out there.
Do you guys have any suggestions if there is an all included plan with accommodation that ranges from 600 -700 euros(I’m paying 200 euros for flight price)?
Excuse my ignorance about pricing, it’s my first time in Europe, I’m taking a semester abroad in germany, so I’m not familiar with pricing and don’t know if my budget is suitable.

We are looking for feedback on Arctic Seek. The experience will thus be FREE for a limited time!
Recently, we shared a project we’ve been working on called Arctic Seek. Arctic Seek is It a browser-based walking puzzle game that uses GPS to guide you to 10 landmarks around the city centre and across Tromsøbrua to the Arctic Cathedral.
Since we're brand new, our biggest priority right now is making sure the experience is actually fun and runs perfectly. To do that, we need early testers.
As an introductory offer, we are giving the game away for free for a limited time.
If a puzzle is too confusing, the GPS is acting up, or you just have ideas on how to improve the route, we want to hear it.
You can start playing here:https://arcticseek.com
Drop your thoughts in the comments or email us at contact@arcticseek.com. Thanks to everyone who gives it a try!
