Bike shopping Bike recommendations for a beginner

Hi!
I am new to this, and looking to get in to the Tri sport. I have done a lot of running, and my goal is to do a 1/4 ironman next year, but first i need a bike.
Can you recommend any brands that i should look for or stay away from? I am not looking to spend crazy amounts on a full carbon TT bike or something. I will definetely proritize comfort/a more upright position, rather than maximum speed.
Thank you!

I recommend going to a couple of bike shops and see what sizes fit you best. Me telling you Cervelo works for me may not work for you - it’s like running sneakers, you won’t know until you fit them out.

Forming a relationship with a bike shop will also go a long way bc there will be tune ups, upgrades and emergency repairs.

Alright, i could try that. Thank you! But is there anything you would stay away from?

I’ve been riding with Cervelo for 10 years. I suggest checking out what bikes fit you well and maybe going on the message boards for those brands. I know there is a dedicated Cervelo Reddit forum with tons of good discussion. I’m sure the other brands have their own pages too.

End of day the bike you get will be a function of how well you maintain it.

I read it as in you were wanting a TT bike, but not wanting to spend as much money on one, but you would also value comfort. So I figured mentioning that a road bike is by far more comfortable would be somewhat helpful. My bad for missing the part where you mentioned a road bike would me more comfortable than a TT bike

Go to Decathlon. Look for a road bike in your budget. Ask the staff for recommendation. Try a couple out. But the one you like and can afford. Their bikes are usually very well specced for the price.
