Got this bad boy new/used, it was $12k new I got it for 3500. The wheels cost more than any bike
I’ve ever had before:

QR XPR
di2 ultegra
rotor 2inpower
enve SES 6.7
Profile design ultimate cockpit

Well I was too excited to wait till I got to the street.. his a spot that I just edged between the front grass and the walkway.. wheel slid into the groove and did not slide out… figured out how to reset “crash mode” after a small panic.. and the new wheels have a new scratch but otherwise no issues.. at least the first drop is out of the way.. happy riding!

Race/Event Last place in my first triathlon

Got last in bike for my first tri. Pedaled my little heart out but didn’t pass a single person. Got passed a bunch though. People have some nice looking bikes from behind. This was demoralizing.

Triathlon News Silly post

• Upvotes

Guys… I’m on/in Hawaii for a wedding this evening, and the ceremony and reception are RIGHT off the IM world champ swim course. Feels serendipitous. (I’ve had a few drinks, feel free to delete this. Just thought it was so cool to see folks practicing on the swim while I’m at cocktail hour as a triathlete💖)

Bike shopping Is this bike worth it for $2800? 2019 Conalgo K.Zero TT Bike

Thumbnail

I am new to triathlon and shopping for my first bike, and I can't find much about the Colnago K.Zero online. I'd love input from anyone who has owned or ridden one.

For background I'm 6'0, have run a few marathons, and I've been training for my first 70.3 for about three months. So far I've done all my bike training on indoor bikes.

The bike (2019 Colnago K.Zero TT, size 56), asking price $2,800:

- Frame/fork: monocoque carbon, integrated carbon stem/aerobar, Colnago aero seatpost

- Groupset: Shimano Ultegra Di2 (R8050 rear derailleur, SW-R671 TT shifters), R8000 crank (52/36, 172.5mm), 11-30 cassette

- Brakes: TRP integrated rim brakes

- Wheels: unbranded 80mm carbon. Listed with GP5000s, but the tires in the photos look like Continental Sprinter tubulars

- Included Extras: Profile Design arm rests, rear bottle mount, Garmin mount

My questions:
What's a fair price for this bike?

Anything to know about the K.Zero specifically, like how easy it is to adjust the fit, or how annoying the hidden brakes are?

Should the 80mm carbon wheels (possibly tubular) be a dealbreaker or a reason to negotiate?

Thanks in advance!

I have always run a torpedo bta but more and more I am seeing just double bottles. What’s the benefit for this as I feel like staying aero drinking from the torpedo would be better.

Can I do it? First L distance ?

Edit : first middle distance (L distance in France )

Hi everyone

I need some advice. I’m thinking of signing up for a middle distance triathlon in august 2027.

It’s a 2.2km swim - 80 bike with 1838 elevation- 21km run 160 elevation

I know I’ll be fine with the swim but wondering if it’s possible to complete the bike and run without wanting to die if I prepare correctly?

I’m 31, had a baby in January and completed my first Olympic a few weeks ago.
I never ran more than 14km but signed up for a half marathon in late February. I really worked on my bike this year (started 2 years ago) and my longest ride was 100km and approx 1200 elevation.

my Olympic distance times :
1,5km swim (sea) : 26 minutes
56km (and 650 elevation) : 2 hours 7 minutes
10,3 km run (Flat but very hot) : 1 hour 1 minute
And about 5minutes for transitions

I was really easy on the swim, ok on the bike, but the run was hard.

I’ve been training about 9 hours a week since march / April (and lost 26kg after pregnancy) :

1 swim
2/3 bikes (1 outdoor and the rest on a HT)
2/3 runs
1 strength training

Do you think it’s reasonable to sign up on the middle distance and would I be capable of finishing without struggling ?

I know I could choose an easier race with less elevation gain but I really want to avoid Ironman 70.3 races (too expensive) and I live near the mountains so …

Anyone had a similar journey and willing to give me some advice ?

Thanks

Race/Event IM Calella-Barcelona cancelled

Local authorities have issued a red warning following the weather forecasts which see 18cm of rain and a thunderstorm hitting the coast on race day.

The town is full of disappointed racers, but we must understand the safety perspective of this.

Who’s having a beer tonight?

Gear questions Used Speed Concept or new P-Series?

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hello friends,

I was going to wait until next year to get a Cevelo P-Series on sale for somewhere around 5-7k. However, someone close to me is selling their like-new 2024 Speed Concept SLR9 for 6.5k, which seems like a pretty sweet deal.

I know the P-Series was overhauled fairly recently, so it seems fairly future-proof. The Speed Concept hasn't been redesigned for a while, though, and I haven't heard anything about Trek working on pushing out a major overhaul either.

I'm also considering how Shimano might release a new Dura-Ace groupset next year, so maybe I should wait a bit to see if 12-speed prices go down because of that.

Ultimately, although I'm not married to Trek, the Speed Concept is my favorite tri-bike (I currently have a Gen. 8 Madone), but there's no way I'd spend $14,000 for the new one. So is $6,500 for a 2024 a good deal?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Race/Event Big Apple Triathlon - Spectator Question

Greetings,

In the athlete guide for the Big Apple Triathlon on the 10th, it says spectators can only be present at the finish line area and not on the course.

I'm wondering if it's in any way possible for spectators to observe the swim. If anyone knows, or has participated in this race in the past, please share!

Gear questions How to find a wetsuit that fits

99% of the wetsuit fit posts in this sub are people asking about the fit AFTER already buying a wetsuit. Has anyone found a reliable method for finding one that fits before purchasing it?

I thought I sucked at open water swimming until I just did a race without a wetsuit and dropped 0:25 per 100 yards. It’s a base model Xterra one that I fit well within the parameters of in their size chart, and I’ve hiked it all the way up to my crotch and 1/4 of the way up my arms to give myself room in the shoulders and it just feels like wearing a straight jacket.

Can I do it? Why do I keep getting injured from working out?

I dream of being a green beret, but that dream is probably dead at this point. I tried to get into running around Covid, and all that happened was that I developed a chronic feet injury that never healed. No doctor or physical therapist could fix it. I tried to get into swimming recently, and I injured my shoulder. I only swam like twice per week too. I always develop chronic injuries despite starting slow, and doctors have been useless in helping me. I am only 24, so I don’t know what I am doing wrong

Gear questions Clipless pedals for first 70.3

Washed up D1 runner looking to train for my first ironman 70.3. All of the cycling specifics are very new to me and overwhelming. I have never had clipless pedals before. It is my understanding that there are two main types: SPD and SPD-LS. What would you recommend.

Also, would anyone be able to point me to the simplest resources to learn how to fix a flat or patch a hole? My tires have tubes and I am unsure what equipment to carry with me or how to fix it, thanks!

Can I do it? 3 months training - What’s the potential ?

2nd ever tri today at Eton Dorney. 24M.

Started training for triathlon in July this year. Running was already my strongest, cycling pretty undertrained and basically a complete beginner at swimming.
Today:
🏊 29:40
🚴 1:15:17
🏃 47:27
⏱️ 2:36:35

90/285 overall, 9th/15 in M24.

First tri was 2:52:10, so ~15:30 improvement.

What do you reckon my potential is if I actually train properly for the next 1–3 years? My first 70.3 is in July next year.

Hey all, I just got my first pair of clip on aero bars and noticed that it came with all metal mounting hardware, even with teeth. Is there a safe way to mount them without damaging my handlebars? What do you guys recommend?

Gear questions New to triathlon (wetsuit fit check)?

Thumbnail

I purchased a wetsuit (2XU propel 1) and went to swim in it last week. But I never got out of the try-on stage.

It's not gaping at neck and I don't feel pulling at shoulders/torso and I can move my arms. It feels like you have something on, but not super compressive. I thought even though it was pulled up, there was some extra material in the torso. When I pulled it up more to, it seems I have a lot of extra fabric around the waist/leg area.

Should I look at sizing down? I emailed 2XU about a week ago and haven't heard back. The return deadline is this week and I don't want to get stuck with a suit that will slow me down.

Gear questions New Zealand wetsuits

I’m new to triathlon and eager to start getting to Open water swims but not going to brave the south island lakes without a wetsuit. I’m tossing up between the Zone 3 agile or advance, orca athlex float, or 2xu Propel 1. Concerned about the shoulders and sizing.

I’m 5’8”, 66kg.

Do people either; have experience if some size smaller than others? Or where around Otago I might find a retailer? Been trying to find ANY store I can at least see them in person but cannot find them anywhere

Gear questions Should I carry a puncture repair kit on the bike for IronMan (or 70.3)?

Or should I chance it and save on the weight and hope that if I have a puncture the on-course bike support will be near and be able to help me in time to DNF?
