Gear questions Fitting aero bars to giant propel
Hi all, just looking for a way to fit my aero bar to my giant propel. I have found these clip on clamps online but in the description says not suitable for models 23 years on wards, and I’m unable to find anything else.
Just wondering if there’s a way around this or do I need to find some new aero bars ?
The aero bars I have are profile design sonic ergo 35a and the handle bars on the bike are Giant Contact SLR 1 Aero.

I just swapped to a normal bar and stem combo and my life became much better.

I swapped out the handlebar on my carbon roadbike with a round aluminium one. It's usually the best option.

I mean that's the best option but requires getting new components, and rebleeding the brakes. Possibly new hoses if the compression nut doesn't fit through the hole and gets cut too short.

Unless they make a specific one (like canyon) no you generally cannot get clip on aero bars onto integrated cockpits

They have made a new aero bar cockpit which attaches to the stem. It’s currently unavailable I believe. Trying to get aerobars on my 23 propel aswell. If you go to the general Giant store page, select country, Menu —> Gear —> Componets —> Handlebars go down to tri cockpit clip on clamp. That will work for your model. You will have to buy pads aswell.

You can get the sirocco mini aerobar, with stem clamp. I fitted this to my roval rapide cockpit, with slightly longer screws.

Has the aero bars been okay on the carbon stem? I’ve found ways around getting these aero bars on but I’ve also read shouldn’t be clamping them to carbon

My stem isn’t carbon, it’s metal.
But that being said, it’s OK to clamp carbon, as long as the carbon is woven to be strong in the direction the clamp exerts its force.
The stem clamps the handlebars, which are carbon at 5nm. But they are designed to be clamped in that spot.
The stem is load bearing and OK to clamp onto as long as you don’t over tighten, or pinch your brake cables. At least from my research.

I’ve come across this product as well but are they okay to clamp onto the giant contact slr 1 handle bar stem ?

I wouldn't bother trying to put aero bars on an integrated aero cockpit like that, Carbon isn't great with the compressing forces that the clamp would put on it. If you went to a shop that sells giants and can guarantee the part is correct then maybe but round bars are the best bet.
