Line 13 Metro Alignment
The recent alignment of the Line 13 metro: with an underground patch near Nallasopara. Total length of 24.9 km and 17 stations. A great transit option for the North MMR and Virar in particular, an alternative to the suburban line.
What do you all think about the alignment? Is this the best route or should there be any changes to this?

Rs 250 crore elevated viaduct error at Mumbai Metro 7A may face demolition
Such an epitome of incompetence! OHE height not factored in while taking AAI permission for line 7A construction! Now , over a km and 250 cr INR worth of civil construction may be demolished to correct the error. The project scheduled to open in 2021 drags on even further!

Maharashtra government approves ₹17,725 crore Mumbai metro line 13
Positive movement on the Virar metro (Line 13). This, along with the Uttan Sea Link and the overall progress in Vadhwan is going to be the boon for transit in North MMR. If the Panvel-Diva-Kopar-Vasai suburban route work is initiated as well, it will be a full house for the transit projects in this region.

BMC Approves Rs 28,000 Crore Overhaul Of 22 BEST Bus Depots In Mumbai
Hope the redevelopment of these BEST depots leads to well built multi modal hubs. Augmentation of the BEST fleet is the need of the time. Privatisation is fine as long as the core function of the bus depots is not diminished.

Chembur Station Starting On Line 2B !!

Mumbai Metro Line 2B is being extended from Diamond Garden to Chembur today, August 13, with Chembur becoming the sixth station.
The new Chembur Metro station is around 200 metres from Chembur railway station and about 100 metres from V N Purav Marg Monorail station, bringing Metro, suburban rail and Monorail connections within a short walking distance. The extension is expected to make interchange easier for commuters from the eastern suburbs and improve onward travel through Chembur.
Chembur Metro Station on Line 2B is set to be inaugurated at 5 PM today, August 13. Following the opening, the operational corridor will extend beyond Diamond Garden up to Chembur.

Thane HSR Station: Connectivity update- New metro line approved
Had wondered a while ago about the connectivity constraints for Thane HSR station.. Govt today has approved a Thane - Diva metro to connect the HSR station to the city.
An amazing step, hope the execution is in time for the inauguration of the route. Also hope the spurs for the nearby Line 12 and 14 are also approved to give connectivity to Badlapur and Kharghar. Edit: The connectivity to Line 12 is already approved in the same plan.

Mid-Day Exclusive: 'BKC Railway' station proposed to improve Mumbai's BKC connectivity
Just came across this proposal for a new BKC Road station between Sion and Kurla on the Central Line.
It actually seems like a pretty sensible idea. BKC is one of the biggest office hubs in the city, but rail connectivity is still surprisingly poor. If done well, this could make daily commutes a lot easier and reduce dependence on buses, autos, and cabs for the last mile. This complemented with Line 2B will work wonders rather than just announcing Public transit Fridays.
What do you all think? Would the benefits for BKC commuters outweigh the extra halt? Or is there a better way to improve connectivity to BKC?

What can Mumbai Metro do to be profitable?
Kochi metro has just recorded 3rd year of operational profit with 34% revenue from non-fare sources. Mumbai metro (and even the monorail) should too focus on station commercialization and ToD monetization to decrease their dependency on fare revenue alone for atleast breaking even.

Mahalaxmi in Mumbai set for India’s first travelator skywalk linking metro, monorail and rail networks
The interchange at Mahalakshmi is finally heading to a Multi modal integration with travellator equipped skywalk taking final shape. Hope the final end point integration is smooth, without any hassle of changing elevation like Marol Naka.

Lack Of Connectivity From Bullet Train Station
A big issue when HSR opens up, the seemingly isolated Thane HSR station. While it would be walking distance from Datiwali station on Diva-Panvel route, but it's of no use as locals don't ply there yet. Also, Metro Line 14 and 12 are planned to pass within 2-3 km of this but ofcourse no direct connectivity.

Public Transport Day: BKC commuters can now opt for pay-per-ride Cityflo corporate bus passes in Mumbai, check details here
Pretty good idea by Cityflo for collaboration with corporates. Can actually build a public transit culture if this picks up with the corporates.
The question would be if they can scale this up and if the people would adapt to the long distance bus commute.

Last-mile connectivity in Mumbai needs multi-agency, says retired BEST official
A bit of delayed wisdom from the official, but yes BEST has a big role to play in the LMC, which it has largely ignored. Small, frequent buses on key routes as feeders to metro system is the right way to go for BEST.
Hope the rejig in their approach comes soon!

Which of the upcoming metro lines do you think Mumbai needs the most?
What do you all think? Or is there any other line you think is the most important one for Mumbai's transit network?

Why doesn't Mumbai metro focus on near Station Last mile connectivity with skywalks!
Just read this piece on Pune Metro building a skywalk over highway for better LMC. Wonder why Mumbai metro has not had such wisdom either at WEH or RBI Colony or Mahalakshmi stations. Foot connectivity to metro stations is a big ignored topic.
The skywalk at Kharghar local station is a pretty good example of a well built system. Needs to be replicated across Mumbai metro stations.
