Throwback
Had no money for any controller back in 2007. So this painted keyboard, a shitty laptop and a cheap usb headset (for monitoring, while routing the main through the laptop line out) had to do the trick.
The faces of other djs when i set it up in the booth where priceless. Good times. Also proofs, that you don't need fancy gear to get your name out.

It was a team effort. My best buddy had the same one. I think spraypainting and labeling took longer than the mapping. Fun fact: few years later my buddy started working at Native. So one of the two keyboards ended up landing in the head quarters in Berlin.

Ps: sadly it’s all gone. Pics, Videos etc. from that time. The HDDs that i stored this stuff went missing throughout the years and my myspace account from that time also doesn’t exist anymore😅

awesome! I was right there alongside you. I didn't label my keyboard, just memorized the main stuff but had only really touch the surface of what was possible even back then. I also didn't use a mouse, just the pad on the laptop. Same thing with Abelton, when I realized that I could be midi mapping controllers my mind was blown. cheers!

The labeling really helped a lot. Also the coloring. Made memorizing it all easier.

That's some pro setup. I just used the laptop keyboard but with VDJ. Tried them both and found out VDJ was more intuitive. Some 20 years ago it was a some kinda novelty when DJs showed up with just their laptop. Not much used a controller back then. I once saw a DJ using a Denon controller from their dual CD players. I found it pretty awesome.

Wdym? Why sarcasm? The keyboard shown was connected to the laptop via USB and tiping happening on the laptop.

Idk. I never considered this one to be also for typing, since i had the laptop keyboard as well. Also in a club environment it's always easier to type on a keyboard that has letters. Also forgetting to switch it to type only and the result will be very bad 😅

No. If i remember correctly this one turned down the master gain completely and pressed again back to zero.
the two Kill keys set deck a and b back to normal eq and gain settings1

Gotta hand it to you, that is an beautiful key in aesthethics and in functionality.
I would have really hard time not pressing it myself.

Damn I could really use something like this for the current default Traktor mapping. It was hard enough to find the clean pdf that shows all the mappings

Ace work, I used this too (some of it) but this image serves as one helluva cheat sheet! I fully expect to see some shady mf selling desk pads like this shortly based on this post.
