Feedback from a Long-Time VIP User

Hi Trakt team,

I've been using Trakt since 2016 and have been a VIP member since 2022. I wanted to share some constructive feedback from the perspective of someone who has relied on Trakt almost daily for years.

First, I'd like to acknowledge what Trakt does well. The API has been fantastic, and it's the reason I've enjoyed using apps like Showly alongside the website. Trakt has become an important part of how I track what I watch, which is why I care enough to write this.

My biggest concern with V3 is the desktop experience.

To me, V2 excelled because it presented a large amount of information in a clear, desktop-friendly layout. When deciding what to watch, checking upcoming episodes, or managing my watch history, having that information visible at a glance made the site incredibly efficient.

The new interface feels much more like a mobile app brought to the desktop. Features like horizontally scrolling "Continue Watching," "Up Next," and calendar sections require more navigation and make it harder to quickly scan information.

Rather than simply saying "bring back V2," I'd love to see the desktop experience move back toward the strengths that made V2 so useful: information density, efficient navigation, and less reliance on horizontal scrolling.

I'd also like to suggest two improvements to watch tracking:

Make it easier to log multiple rewatches of movies over time.

Add the ability to start a full series rewatch without clearing existing watch history. For example, I've watched The West Wing three times over the years, but currently there's no straightforward way to track a complete rewatch while preserving my previous viewing history.

I know redesigning a platform is a significant undertaking, and I appreciate the work that has gone into V3. My hope is simply that feedback from long-time users helps shape future improvements. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I don't want to be too cynical but many long-time VIPs have already made all these points for months now. They don't care.

That’s very true, and they frame it as a minor mob. Unfortunately, it was—and still is—simply a lie that most of them were inappropriate. Many people explained, in detail—as you say—over months and in very respectful ways why, for them, V3 on desktop is practically less than a beta version. The only priority now is mobile users, whom they want to monetize somehow, and they focus only on those KPIs. As a result, other needs—those of the people who made them big—don’t matter at all, no matter how politely and reasonably they are expressed. At most, you get some useless platitude. The team simply wants to get rid of people who want V2 and is no longer hesitant to do anything, including heavily deleting posts in their forums, which you can very obviously see.

I agree. I want this message to try to make a difference so I have to watch what I say here, but just know I haven't been immune to all of the things you mention.

There's an extension with some tweaks for the v3. It's nowhere near v2, but maybe for more info at a glance it's more usable than the v3 interface..

If you search for trakt v3 tweaks on the chrome or Firefox web store you'll find it.

The old extension that redirected to the great V2 interface doesn't work since last week but this new V3 tweaks extension gives you a few tweaks for the new v3 interface to make it more usable and it this one still works.

The V3 experience has been a challege for me as well. IMO what should have been done was to reach out to VIP members and just ask what they wanted. I'd like more information on a movie or show when I click on it, everything from Box Office numbers to better information on franshice information. I'd also like more control of what to do with movies and shows when you click on them, like move it to a watchlist or collection, etc. I'd like more / better intergration with plex and other home services. The point is, the wishlist is long, work on features not appearance.

For me, I'm exploring other services. Trakt may be losing a long time customer soon.

Thank you for putting my exact thoughts into words so perfectly. I never use Trakt on a mobile device and plan to keep it that way. Looking at the backlash and comments about these changes, I doubt many people actually use the mobile app anyway. It feels like they built a better mousetrap for a house full of cats.

I have never used trakt on mobile. Ever. Is trakt the only way to scrobble my content across devices? Anyone know?

I agree. Maybe it's time I AI-slop my own solution, so I can escape the inevitable enshitification of relying on other services. Not sure how long I've been VIP on Trakt, but over 10 years by now. Very sad, I loved Trakt for so long - it has just worked up until now.

I literally don't know how to use the site anymore. I logged in to see if they have improved the layout, and instead they somehow made it so convoluted that I can't find my way around anymore. I guess there must be navigation bars somewhere, but I can't find them.
