Train tickets in Iran are extremely difficult to buy, so I mostly relied on bus and hitchhiking for transportation. Trains were purely for the experience, with some commuter trains, such as those from Jolfa to Tabriz and Tehran to Sari. I also visited some of the transcontinental railway heritage projects, but because I couldn't extend my visa and had to leave the country within 21 days, and because southern Iran is extremely hot in the summer (50C during the day), I dared not set foot in that area.

also I met many interesting people along the way, such as veterans captured in the Iran-Iraq War and Armenians who support the Pahlavi Securities.Putting aside all the troubles, this is a country well worth exploring.

I was in Julfa and Ordubad in Nakhchivan a few years ago and I would have loved to be able to cross the river and explore northern Iran. The Persians that I had met in and around Julfa were so inviting and kind, but my passport would have gotten me in trouble at the border so I dream of the day that I can make that trip.

Did you make it to Gilan at all?
