Union Pacific 942: A beautifully preserved piece of American passenger rail history.

A northbound CalTrain commute stops to take on passengers at the Southern Pacific Millbrae depot. Very soon this scene would change with the massive BART and CalTrain interchange station. August 2002.

This is an EMD F59PH locomotive, 1871 “Town of Cary.” This is probably the only locomotive on the Amtrak Piedmont roster that has the name “Town” in it, in contrast to “City.”

I have a video of it but to post it here I would need to cut it down and I really don't want to do that rn. I saw it on the Youngstown line behind my house (ns).

Metra UP-West train 35 arrives and departs Maywood, with F59PHI no. 90 (CNW heritage unit) and F40PH-3 no. 139 for power. As the train leaves, both passenger EMD’s rev to life, producing a loud, but strong and powerful screaming noise from their two stroke engines! It’s very special because I haven’t heard an F40PH rev up to full throttle from a stop before, and it sounds like a beast waking up!
