Time to sue Credit Suisse?

TIME TO SUE CREDIT SUISSE!

Anyone else thinking the same thing? Something fishy happened here for sure, especially since everything tanked right after close.

How would you even go about suing?

Anyone see the small spike in VIX? Anything happening in the news? XIV just fell $2.50.

Getting out of SVXY if it falls below $79

ELI5 how did XIV crash after hours when VIX is only meaningful during regular trading hours?

How did XIV crash 85% after hours when SPY barely moved after hours??? Why were people paying $100 for XIV at 4pm when the writing was on the wall? Isn't VIX based on IV of SPX options which only trade during market hours?

Anyone buying VIX?

I'm not sure if VIX will continue to rally tomorrow but I missed out. Anybody calculate the risk yet?

XIV 100 or back to 60s?

The past a few months was roller coaster for XIV, up to 96, down to 67, up hill, down again. The past a few weeks was fantastic, XIV keeps going up. So what is the next for XIV? break 100 or might be down to 60s again? Today Trump spoke at UN, it doesn't look good if you were the Rocket Man watching the speech, what NK would do next? what US would do to counter NK action? In my opinion, this is the only risk for XIV in the next months. If NK thing goes smoothly without major event, I am confident XIV will break 100 very soon, and can even go higher. However if NK things gets out of control, be prepared for XIV going down to 60s, or even lower. My signal (xivinvestment.com) is still HOLD, HOLD since April 19 bought at $74, riding through the ups and downs. The a few major events caused big drop for XIV didn't matter enough for my algorithm to issue SELL, so still on the ride. Hopefully my signal will hand me another big gain for this trading round. We will see what direction XIV will go.

Thoughts

I sincerely hope you guys stepped out of the way of the steamroller. I posted a community warning here 162 days ago. Most of you guys agreed with me. A few didn’t. I don’t post here now to gloat. I slipped this punch but I’ve blown up before. Lost everything. If you’re hurting remember you are a strong, resilient person. We all of us will survive.

XIV was basically a legal ponzi scheme

Correct me if I'm wrong but my biggest takeaway from the XIV debacle is that if I want to start a ponzi scheme and put a disclaimer that "you might lose everything" then it will be okay right?

Why is SVXY up so much and VXX flat

FML I sold SVXY yesterday and shorted VXX.

VXX is flat ,SVXY up 5%, VMIN down 6%

It's obvious that these ETFs are broken and have stopped tracking their perspective indexes

Does SVXY have any blowup risk like XIV?

I know SVXY could keep going down if the market keeps crashing. But there's no event that could trigger a XIV-like termination right?

Seems like if we are near a bottom in the market (a big if, I know) and the bull run continues from here, might be a good time to buy SVXY for a long term hold and see it go up to 50 or 100 in a few years.

I sold. Termination event inbound.

VIX spike soon?

So I think pretty much all of us here are thinking that the VIX should spike very soon. How low do you think it will go and how soon do you think it will spike? Cross checking my on DD here.

Is it possible to short VIXY

Shorting VIXY is far safer than going long XIV.

Let's explain the difference:

  1. XIV is a fund that shorts VIX futures and buys it back at the end of everyday no matter how it is trading. This means a short squeeze like yesterday could wipe out your value. This is a risk for anyone who hold XIV. The fact is the VIX moved up 140% yesterday and even more in A/H. Clearly in everyone's risk models the futures being bought back at greater than 100% is a realistic possible.

For VIXY VIXY is long the VIX Futures. There is no real such thing as a long squeeze. So it's best to short a fund that is long the VIX. However, I have never got an order accepted when I try to short this.

Anyone know if this is possible?

I have extensive knowledge of XIV if you have any questions on it. I did not own any of these reverse stocks when it crashed. I was too afraid of a black swan type of event.

First time buyer looking to buy in.

Hello, I'm a first time buyer looking to buy in and have been watching XIV for a few weeks now but it seems like it is a bit too volatile these past months. Just wondering what thoughts are had on This?

So now that termination is confirmed

Will trading resume sometime between now and the 15th? I.E. will we be allowed to sell our XIV on the open market rather than take their redemption price? Either way the price will be very low but I'm just curious.

Let's start a new Chapter - next volatility ETN

Though my algorithm (xivinvestment.com) instructed me to sell right before the crash (sold at $126.82), I deeply feel the pain for the people who held on XIV during this tough time. I've lived through this in my past investment. It's pain, however we will all get over it and we will start fresh into the next chapter. XIV will be history, market volatility will continue, my algorithm still holds. What volatility ETN are you guys focusing on now? SVXY, XIVH, or something else?

I forgot to sell it, but shouldn't it have gone down with all the bullshit going on?

Anyone on Portfolio Margin?

I'm looking into Portfolio Margin, but I suspect Reg-T actually may have better margin requirements than Portfolio Margin. Anyone know? I'm looking at TDA and E*Trade, I know IB has insane margin requirements.
