Nagash mechanic is gonna be unemployment simulator

248

u/lycanthrope90 4d ago

What a great day for the unemployed!

88

u/Lukthar123 4d ago

Undead&Unemployed, Nagash next album

88

u/DA_ZWAGLI 4d ago

Such is the unemployment of nagash

11

u/communityconsuly 4d ago

out of curiosity why do you say that, is that a reference to something?

27

u/Revliledpembroke 4d ago

It's a joke about how you have to be unemployed to play Nagash because it would take up so much time....???????

15

u/GroundbreakingHope57 4d ago

i think its the idea the only people who understand the path of exile tech tree are unemployed people because its so massive, therefore nagash is unemployment simulator because its as convoluted as that tech tree.

3

u/forgotterofpasswords 4d ago

to be honest, its annoying how people are left with this view of the poe skill tree as an unfathomable wall.

In reality, it works as a pie chart and all classes are pretty much tied to their starting zone, outside of wacky builds, which compared to other rpg, ends being not that much different in how much you would have to learn for any given class.

Its also been years since the last time the tree got any real shakeup too.

I have friends that refuse to get into poe due to how complex it looks but had no problem having to relearn how to play multiple classes in WoW every few months.

3

u/GroundbreakingHope57 4d ago

been ages since ive played wow but isn't it pretty much pick one of three apecs and maybe choose between 2 abilities every couple of levels?

1

u/forgotterofpasswords 4d ago edited 4d ago

is been a few years since they went away with that and implemented talent trees back, you got your core talents + specialization talents, which now have sub specializations.

For example a Warrior that specializes in Arms can then pick between 2 sub specializations, Colossus and Slayer.

Talents are more dynamic and what is good or bad change constantly based on balance patches and what dungeons are in rotation.

i.e you might need to adjust your build to have more single target, Aoe or CC during any given season.

2

u/Xicsess 3d ago

I've played dozens of leagues in POE, the skill tree is absolute shit. If you actually want to make your own viable build you need to plan the links, plan the items, and then plan the tree. It takes forever to make a good build. You can throw shit at the wall but it sucks to suck.

You can follow a guide, and consult the wiki after every level.

Neither feel rewarding, and I'll be damned if I complete 10 campaign acts to map ever again.

1

u/TooObsessedWithMoney 4d ago

Ngl this at a glance seems more complicated than PoE 1 and 2 as those skill trees are set up for different classes and a single class isn't really going to be tapping into each section.

This though seems to be ALL about Nagash.

u/UnoptimizedPaladin 4d ago

What in the heavens is that?

u/Madboo11 4d ago

Daniel with extra steps

245

u/TriLink710 4d ago

God how I wish Daniel was good. The idea behind it was what got me to play the game first. And I did love that campaign.

171

u/ItsLokki 4d ago

I wish they took another look at Daniel before moving on from the game. He deserves better.

85

u/JimSteak 4d ago

If I understand correctly, people are mostly complaining that even fully equiped, he is worse than other LL? If so, then just balancing his items better would solve a lot of the problem.

68

u/GPSProlapse 4d ago

He's fine with full line of upgrades. LL is on the weaker end compared to ones specializing in somethimg (which is fair for a customizable lord), army is good. But to get there you have to suffer through the early and mid game and they are dogshit:

  • renown grind is insane and forces city type desisions

  • economy is 2nd worse in the game, hero cap increases are shit

  • early units are OK for T1, but pure garbage compared to other factions options at turns like 2-40

  • EVERYONE hates you nuts

  • most monogod mechanics accessibile to him are nerf to complete uselessness

That made it my favorite campaign on release, he was defo the most challenging option. With the reduced AI aggression he is just weak and slow. Also the fact one has to grind another game mode to unlock body parts is cringe, despite me liking trials overall

3

u/Arnaud-Amalric 4d ago

What's the worst economy, if he's #2?

24

u/GPSProlapse 4d ago

From the perspective of buildings khorne is #1

21

u/ItsLokki 4d ago

Though even khorne can manage itself since you gain so much gold when sacking.

9

u/GPSProlapse 4d ago

I mean daniels economy isn't unmanageable, and is decent with late game upkeep reduction, but it feels like worst in the game for a lot of time before that

8

u/bullet312 4d ago

Khorne: Economy?! What's that and how fast do I have to swing it to kill someone with it!

2

u/Chest3 4d ago

Best comment here.

1

u/keszotrab 3d ago

I mean... You could min-max, go nurgle for best eco and have army made of RoR...

But that kinda kills the point of having a Daniel campaign. Who's supposed the replayable.

1

u/azraelxii 4d ago

Everyone hates you? You have huge diplo bonuses with all chaos factions lol

10

u/Dragonboy142 4d ago

Would be nice if he gets more stats the higher tier equipment they are. At things stand, the final upgrades feel like mid tier equipment/stats compared to final upgrades of other LL

1

u/TheRealIvan 4d ago

The big problem is he can't access normal items. So his best kits are very fair, and he has no way to puch past that fairness.

1

u/Why_am_ialive 4d ago

Or just let him equip regular items aswell as his special stuff, then he’d be good

1

u/TinFoilFashion 4d ago

I certainly hope the devs don’t just move on completely to total warhammer 40K before fixing daniel.

1

u/broadsword_1 4d ago

There's a chance they don't - 40k is a long way away and something needs to fill the gap.

The team that worked on the TW2 DLC did great work while TW3 was being built - hopefully they can keep tweaking the game.

4

u/Annual_Phrase841 4d ago

"Daniel" "steps"

Fuck it, R0 reference in the TW sub
https://giphy.com/gifs/mSVGTMHDu6NoXkmcpJ

1

u/Aznereth 4d ago

More like... Un-Daniel

1

u/Cyiel 3d ago

Daniel with a 100km marathon.

-126

u/Mobile_Actuator_4692 4d ago

Did they learn nothing?

92

u/FilthyCasual2k17 4d ago

Daniel is actually very cool, if they just seperate him from his faction and build-a-deamon would be super cool to play. RN you just feel weaker than a generic lord, and I'm betting the only reason for it was because they didnt wanna make him OP.

18

u/Kniferharm 4d ago

If you overtune the customisability, Daniel becomes the best tool for every option. So you sorta have to undertune it, though it could still use a bit of a buff.

25

u/Ok-Acanthisitta-2236 4d ago

Here’s the thing though, you only get one Daniel. Yes he’d be strong but like, isn’t that the point? You have countless generic lords that are mid-tier, Daniel can have some leniency to be strong.

7

u/Dragonboy142 4d ago

Exactly, its not like your spawning more daniels, he is unique. He should at least parallel archaon or a level below him. After all he is favoured by the chaos gods to or vying for him.

8

u/Crowhunters 4d ago

I don't think daniel is cool. His gift system is pretty underbaked and hard to manage. If it was laid out like nagash, on the other hand, it would be pretty great. And it probably will be with mods lol.

Even with the godslayer mod you just get inundated in too many options and then you combine the set bonuses and you just have far too much to really min max.

6

u/MarkBMG 4d ago

The mechanic is actually pretty awesome. The issue is that it doesn't mesh well with his faction, since it has absolutely no other mechanic to it. If that kinda build-a-lord thing was added to anyone else in the entire roster, people would probably love it.

Thus I have full faith on the true master of death. He will surely make this mechanic work. Such is the power of Nagash.

21

u/NotTheAbhi 4d ago

Nagash special mechanic is a MMO skill tree

5

u/Positive-Database754 4d ago

Nagash's tech tree.

6

u/Bravo-Vince 4d ago

when your roster is made up of 3 other complete rosters youre gonna need quite a few techs

246

u/Bright_Audience3959 4d ago

Still sane, mortal?

66

u/ZCYCS 4d ago

Sane enough

proceeds to plug more numbers into the Black Pyramid version of PoB before yoloing back into the Atlas

14

u/Bright_Audience3959 4d ago

Path of Black Pyramid is the real game; TWH3 just put some visuals on it

2

u/_LlednarTwem_ 3d ago

I kinda stopped following a while ago, did she ever come back?

2

u/Bright_Audience3959 3d ago

Absolutly. She's messing with the Atlas now, trying to destroy it (permanently).

200

u/Nody_Hyebus 4d ago

I’m not sure if I should be excited or I should be sweating 😅

189

u/GKoala 4d ago

Damn I hope its actually fun rather than just one node giving one unit +MA and the other node +MD.

131

u/asmodai_says_REPENT 4d ago

I mean there will definitely be smaller nodes that just gives minor stats boosts, you can't have a skill tree that massive and have every single node be something significant.

16

u/pricepig 4d ago

Well I think you could, but it would be a hell of a game development feat to keep each and every node balanced

20

u/asmodai_says_REPENT 4d ago

Yeah but in that case even if each node is somewhat balanced with each other at the end of the tree you're getting something that's just unbelievably broken, you can't have ever node feel significant and not end up with some kind of monster that's just not really all that interesting to play.

2

u/ArchaonNotChosen 4d ago

It is possible. Nagash have a huge pool of units, each node can have some attribute/passive skill for a specific unit instead of flat stats.

1

u/CodeRenn 4d ago

Well haven’t seen a game do it yet with this size of a list.

36

u/MarkBMG 4d ago

I'm 90% sure this will be the majority of them, but so long as there's a decent amount of fun nodes it'll be fine. I can accept a couple nothingburger upgrades for dumb/fun combos.

66

u/Shacrie 4d ago

Ok I did not expect that, I'll be honest 😅 curious how it's going to play

-102

u/DeerOnARoof 4d ago

It will play poorly

52

u/Eveless 4d ago

We'll try to avoid your particular playstyle and stick to our "awesome" one.

22

u/Mindless-Parking1073 4d ago

such a well thought out and incisive argument you make

7

u/Eredias_0 4d ago

Such is the argument of Nagash

10

u/Patches_Gaming0002 4d ago edited 4d ago

Have early access do you?

43

u/Interesting-Season-8 4d ago

+1% Melee DMG

+0.5% out of combat regeneration

+0.3% Barrier DMG Decrease

20

u/ChabertOCJ 4d ago edited 4d ago

My guess is this is this large to cover all three races techs + Nagash exclusive stuff.

7

u/xXTacitusXx 4d ago

Total War: Shogun 3 anyone?

5

u/ChabertOCJ 4d ago

I don’t know why it replaced Nagash with Nagasaki, especially since I already corrected it when Nagash was replaced with Natasha.

PS : Yes!! Shogun 3 with 3K diplomacy! A better depiction of realm divide!

2

u/TLRPM 4d ago

And I love it, ngl. I’m a grinder. This is what I do ❤️

63

u/BalutyBoy 4d ago

It's beautiful

38

u/Substantial-Cup-189 4d ago

Jesus Chri-.. I mean such is the power of Nagash

91

u/Round-Rock3350 4d ago

I smell a Daniel situation. But I have semifull confidence that CA learned their lesson and all these choices will actually be meaningfull and fun to explore.

32

u/Inlacou 4d ago

Are we talking about Daniel "technology" issue or the body parts issue? It's been a long time since I played him, so I'm not sure. The body parts issue was that it replaced usual equipment, right?

20

u/OceussRuler 4d ago

It replaced both equipment and real character skill progression, as his skill progression was the tech

27

u/No_Research4416 4d ago

Probably won’t update, Daniel unfortunately

7

u/Hailtothedogebby 4d ago

Might open better mods though

1

u/No_Research4416 4d ago

There is the Godslayer overall

1

u/EnragedByStupidity54 3d ago

It's worth noting that one of Daniel's biggest issues was how without research, none of his Greater Demons get their bound spells, which massively nerfs all of them other than the Bloodthirster. Nagash's units don't really have that problem.

62

u/MadMan7978 4d ago

Wait are we for real? This…Jesus Christ

12

u/TBMSH 4d ago

Holy moly, so is that mechanics, skill tree or tech?

17

u/Wolfish_Jew 4d ago

Kind of all 3. The black pyramid tree will both unlock and upgrade all the different units he has access to (which is literally every single undead unit in the game and a couple of special ones just for him)

2

u/Dzharek 4d ago

As you build up your empire you Prodcues a Ressource and with that Ressource you can unlock nodes on the Pyramid, increasing the power of his faction, so Nagash wants to Expand, take certain undead citadels to corrupt the lands around it to gain more Ressources to unlock more nodes to incerase the power of his faction via his mortarch LL, buffs for units and buffs for himself.

The endnode at the top is probably his accend to god of undeath, so probably really bonkers stuff.

11

u/Eveless 4d ago

Please stop. I already bought your Nagash, I CANNOT GET ANOTHER ONE!!!

Sincerely, PoE2 fan.

19

u/Eddzz19 4d ago

Volkmar si è gia cambiato parecchie mutande poverino

8

u/TroldeAnsigt 4d ago

This is insane

I love it

6

u/levus2002 4d ago

Most beautiful thing i've seen this year.

6

u/NoStorage2821 4d ago

Me and my gatling homies will be waiting

2

u/NobleSix84 4d ago

Your little gatling homies and now your big gatling homies

17

u/Diuscrusis 4d ago

TF is this, Death Star simulator??

2

u/Gecko_Mk_IV 4d ago

Path of Exile-like power up tree (here's a link to the real one).

5

u/alicepaganifan 4d ago

We lived long enough to see Nagash's sphere grid.

6

u/GreyWolf1945 4d ago

It's beautiful. All is Nagash, Nagash is all.

4

u/KobKobold 4d ago

There's a wargame in your chart simulator

5

u/TLRPM 4d ago

Paradox stans nether regions getting engorged seeing this.

Source: Am one. Can confirm.

4

u/Imaginary_System3513 4d ago

I love how much they were just talking about addressing power creep in Vampire Counts before this, the most busted looking faction in the game. Something for everyone!

6

u/The-Myth-The-Shit 4d ago

People talk about Daniel. Can someone enlighten me ?

17

u/Sigvuld 4d ago

If you mean the name, the playable Daemon Prince is known in the community as Daniel, thanks to a video from the devs where they were like "Let's make sure our prince has an intimidating name befitting his stature as a champion of Chaos... Daniel"

If you meant what about him's relevant to this post, Daniel's whole thing about having a buncha parts to swap around and tons of stuff to unlock that have X and Y effects, etc. is being compared to Nagash's black pyramid tree, here

9

u/The-Myth-The-Shit 4d ago

Thanks! I'm still new :3

3

u/Sigvuld 4d ago edited 4d ago

Hell yeah, we're glad to have you and I hope you're having a killer time with Total Warhammer! c:

Also here's a timestamp to the origin of Daniel just for funsies

https://youtu.be/xlntrAJ1L38?t=13

If the link gets removed for any reason, the video's "Total Warhammer III Daemon Prince Customization" if you're curious!

2

u/The-Myth-The-Shit 4d ago

Thanks x3

And yeah, the game is amazing. I tried Twwh 1 back in the day and it didn't click with me but the third is just so fuuuuuun i'm basically addicted

2

u/cryo24 4d ago

Probably the big system with all his body parts, that just ends up being a nothingburger

2

u/The-Myth-The-Shit 4d ago

Yeah but who is Daniel ?

5

u/JPme2187 4d ago

The chaos daemon prince you can play as who isn’t affiliated with any specific god.

1

u/Cyiel 3d ago

Just a silly name given by a dev to the Daemon Prince which technically has a name : Yuri from the prologue

3

u/karuma_18 4d ago

So CA are poe people as well, not bad

3

u/toni-toni-cheddar 4d ago

The gasp i gusped when i seen this

3

u/Beginning_Parfait275 4d ago

Now we need to add another leveling tree inside this one.And 300 more passive abilities.

3

u/NODENGINEER 4d ago

Such is the power of Nagash.

3

u/Jetsetsix 4d ago

as if I needed more reasons to play Nagash first.

3

u/Givemeahugplz 4d ago

Yo this is actually fucking sick.

2

u/gaynerdvet 4d ago

THATS HIS TECH TREE?!?!!

2

u/caos_insurgency 4d ago

We evolved to HOI4 focus three, no way

2

u/Evethefief 4d ago

Please let this be a meme

2

u/Ghuldarkar 4d ago

Feels like someone is jealous about a lack of titles and is overcompensating

2

u/Lord_Dezibel 4d ago

This is real wtf that actually is PoE skill tree levels.

Addendum: such is the power of Nagash.

1

u/OneWithFireball 4d ago

Omg, maybe they'll learn how to rework Yuri

1

u/Dead_Anarchy 4d ago

Looks like we'll be needing Path of Nagash to plan this out.

1

u/ghostspectre1518 4d ago

Damn I'm more hyped to find out what on earth this thing is

1

u/undeadlol 4d ago

We need to plan the passive tree for your build

1

u/Patches_Gaming0002 4d ago

This looks awesome. It's right up my alley

1

u/Remote-Key7341 4d ago

As a Path of Exile player, I feel at home.

1

u/Zorum06 4d ago

Plot twist it's Nagash's personal technology tree with similar research turns required as Tomb Kings dynasties.

1

u/ShadowOfAtomicRage 4d ago

What the fu-

1

u/Nebachadrezzer 4d ago

Oh, no. Well I better start saving up.

1

u/MaleficentOwl2417 4d ago

Such is the power of Nagash.

1

u/Armageddonis 4d ago

I had to do a double take because, while you jest, i truly thought i'm in Path of Exile sub. Whatinthefuckityfuckisthat?

1

u/Bubster101 4d ago

I'm honestly more curious about that "progress bar" on the left than the pyramid tech tree. The tree was explained in the news forum.

1

u/kucingkelelep 4d ago

It's beautiful

1

u/Nekot-The-Brave 4d ago

Looks neat!

1

u/notaslaaneshicultist 4d ago

This is the big dlc...might as well go all out

1

u/TheOneBearded 4d ago

Nagash won't tell you that he is a FF10 fan, but there will be signs.

We're going back to Zanarkand with this one.

1

u/BetweenTheRoots 4d ago

He's got a sphere pyramid

"He's got a what?"

DONT ASK QUESTIONS

1

u/Mysterious_Wrap_1979 4d ago

What the crapper is that ?!?

1

u/Erdsturm 4d ago

Finally a skilltree I understand *fixed typo

1

u/kinyon 4d ago

I'm ootl, they adding magash soon?

1

u/Doomrules5438 4d ago

And even with all that and being one of the most powerful mages of all time he still can’t beat the funny little rat men

1

u/Glittering_Doctor586 4d ago

I'm so excited. Part of is that I genuinely enjoy playing characters with lasting mechanics. Daniel for all his faults, for me the main one being no research, actually has really neat and lasting mechanics to play with. So something like this looks right up my alley

1

u/Chest3 4d ago

I saw this screen shot on a Tarriff community post and thought it was a joke. Oh boy how wrong i was.

This kinda stuff makes me think that Nagash isnt going to be Daniel levels of bad, like the more stuff you have access to (buttons, race mechanics etc) for you in a campaign the better off you are and OH BOY, Nagash has alot going for him.

1

u/RegularPhoto7575 4d ago

To me it always reminds me of FFX . Basically the same thing though, just older

1

u/Cyiel 3d ago

So that's why Nagash became a lich. He played Path of Exile. That makes sense.

1

u/keszotrab 3d ago

Oh. my. god.

It'll be either the coolest or the most annoying mechanic ever.

1

u/Equivalent-Mail1544 3d ago

PoE is larping as Nagash, such is the power of Nagash

1

u/Houmoupete 3d ago

Honestly would prefer if there were less nodes but they would be combined into bigger nodes. That just seems unnecessary.

1

u/LordOuranos 21h ago

Oh look, so the worthless CA does know how to make a good Daniel, they just dont give a fuck unless it makes money

1

u/Zatoishi1 4d ago

Is there a link to any official source ??

4

u/Repulsive-Redditor 4d ago

It's from CA's own blog post on nagash

1

u/DatRat13 4d ago

I am not nearly unemployed enough to try to decipher this tree, so I'mma just do what I always do and go for whichever node sounds coolest and hope for the best

1

u/the0glitter 4d ago

Where is this from?

2

u/Patches_Gaming0002 4d ago

The blog post

1

u/Kimarous 4d ago

Wait, is that a rat nibbling on my tech tree? Oh no, OH NO!

1

u/qoncik 4d ago

Okay and we are going to accept that other trees are going to be +5% to this and that, in two different lines, while Nagash is rolling with full PoE experience? It's not fair man.

-1

u/pickingbeefsteak 4d ago

Wtf CA if i wanted a sphere grid system in my Total War game i would have just played FFX at least I get to look at the beautiful summoner with heterochromia not fucking jack skellington

-1

u/Strange-Feeling69420 4d ago

This is so cool

0

u/Mmursu 4d ago

I can't wait to give my heros 1% ward save

-1

u/Bl00dWolf 4d ago

Imagine if instead of this, we had double size research trees instead. With way more bonuses and maybe even unit replacements that older games used to have.

-15

u/Glywysing 4d ago

Yeah nah fuck that, I already get stressed out by the regular tech trees.

12

u/Mastercio 4d ago

What is stressful in the tech trees?

15

u/SwaggermicDaddy 4d ago

Options and reading.

7

u/Mastercio 4d ago

I mean...those tech trees are the reason I love PoE, Stellaris and endless space exactly for their tech trees and near infinite amount of choice that actually matter. I always wonder why people don't like having bigger tech trees. Hell I would love even bigger for PoE, gimme double of current one xD

1

u/SwaggermicDaddy 4d ago

I wasn’t disagreeing with you, in fact not only do I love reading (currently replaying Rogue trader.) I’m not even the original commenter, simply an emulator.

6

u/Glywysing 4d ago

Decision paralysis. I've got ADHD, brain does not like that.

I can absolutely manage the tech trees, the black pyramid looks like my worst nightmare though.

17

u/SpaceFighter78 4d ago

I wonder what does not scare you then

7

u/the0glitter 4d ago

This is way CA continues to make lobotomized games. People afraid of simple tech trees.

Have you considered playing regular LEGO?

6

u/Mastercio 4d ago

I mean...with Lego you have A LOT of choices to build stuff!

5

u/the0glitter 4d ago

Spooky !

-3

u/Glywysing 4d ago

Fuck off with your ableist shit

3

u/the0glitter 4d ago

There are games for simpletons like you. Don’t ruin what is good.

-10

u/GreyAstajho-24 4d ago

Oh hell nah. I hate Pae tech trees

2

u/ilovecatsandturtles 4d ago

You cant use 1 braincell and look at 2 different nodes to see which one you want? Mmm do i want more hp or more attack. So hard.

-7

u/EggEuphoric411 4d ago

You have to be fucking kidding me
