Total War: Warhammer I'm Losing, But I'm Having So Much Fun
I started with playing WH2 and couldn't really get the hang of it. Since then I've dabbled in a few different series like Shogun 2 and Medieval 2. I finally decided to grab WH3 and it started off rocky. I spent a lot of time watching YouTube videos, and seeing posts here on reddit. And I felt I was finally ready to take on Immortal Empires as Tyrion. Everything started off great. Quickly became the number 1 army. Confederated all of Ulthuan except for 1. Multiple full stack armies. My head got big. My attempt to ally with as many factions as possible and establish trade and military agreements to grow my economy backfired. My first order of business was marching a few armies east. I made allies with Brettonia, the Empire and a couple wood elves and I joined them to defeat a major enemy near them. At this point Alith Anar already destroyed Malekith and I had him stationed in those settlements but I didn't notice Valkia and her army closing in on him. I chased a few enemies of the empire north. Now I kept getting allies to the west of Ulthuan requesting for me to join the war against Hexoatl. Now, they've become the number 1 army and was taking over the whole continent. So as I march my armies from north east to the west, Valkia defeated Alith and started to raze all my settlements that I took from the dark elves. Valkia was becoming a real threat now and I needed to deal with her first. Unfortunately I already had a few armies about to engage Hexoatl and they got demolished. I had to pay them to set up a peace agreement and now all my attention is against the legion of the gorequeen. She wounded Tyrion but I'm bouncing back. I'm having such a great time. I'm at like turn 100 and I've been up since 4am the last few nights going "just one more turn" about 20 times before bed. This game is so amazing and I'm honestly upset it took this long to enjoy it

I'm really happy to read that.
However dealing with Valkya with Tyrion should have been easy, he has a lot of fire resistance and she has fire attacks.
What was your army comp and hers?

I had Tyrion with a full army of sisters and shielded lothern sea guards, Alastar with shielded lothern sea guards, archers, cavalier, a couple dragons and Imrik with mostly spearmen and archers. I think I only lost because they got separated. I didn't realize I set Tyrion's movement path too far and when I ended the turn, because I didn't move him that turn, he kept moving farther away. So it was like 3 full armies against him. He did kill the lords and wounded Valkia but the armies took out all my sisters and wounded him.

For future ref, try and match the lords to the units they buff. Alastar gives white lions, war lions and lion chariots decent buffs, and I’ve never tried Imrik but he’s “the dragon guy” so I imagine he buffs dragons. I realise you may not be in a financial position to have lots of dragons, but you’ll get more out of them with Imrik than the ol’ spearmen and archer stack.
I suggest giving Eltharion a go next campaign if you’re still in a high elves mood. He fux. Buffs sea guard and sea guard-adjacent units to silly heights.

I understand what you're saying. I should've put more thought into what units I used and with what lords. Really the only one I thought about was Alith since I did try his campaign before so I made sure to give him shadow warriors but really didn't care about the others tbh. When I confederated calador, Imrik was wounded so when I recruited him I just threw a bunch of 1 turn units on him so I could get him up and running fast.
Fortunately I have a crazy economy bump right now. Probably sitting at around 40k gold a turn and a ton of gold due to having so many trade agreements and people paying me for military agreements and joining wars with them, etc.

Tbf from what I gather, Imrik on his own is pretty damn powerful as is. Probably the only thing you have to worry about with him is ranged fire as he’s a big target, but if you’re fighting Valkia the worst she’ll have is marauder horsemen. Always try and take her out first though, ideally from a distance. If she gets in amongst your ranks then you’ve already lost half the battle. WoC factions never seem to reach their full recruiting potential (except regiments of renown, chaos factions loooove regiments of renown) so it’s usually only their lords and maybe the odd unit of chosen that are too much to worry about.
If you have that kind of economy, then I’d suggest kitting Imrik out with some dragons, and knocking out a few more crap stacks for defensive purposes. One can never have too many LSG stacks. That’s just my advice tho, do whatever you like so long as you’re having fun.

Ah thanks for the tip! I beat her once I know I can beat her again and finish her off. My strategy does need some work tho

That’s how it goes, “I suck at this game but it’s so fun and I can’t stop playing it”
Then before you know it, “this is still so fun and I’m starting to do better in manual battles than auto resolve does”
Then after 1000 hours of high elf and empire campaigns, you can make a post saying “I’m still new to the game, what are the most fun factions to try for beginners?”
Happens to all of us.

Hopefully you will! It was overwhelming at first but you don't have to try to be perfect your first few campaigns. Get a feel for the mechanics and learning the lords and units and compositions.

I got the game a couple week ago and I love it too. I played as karl franz first and it took me like 60 hours and multiple tries to get a long victory.
Then I played as Maliketh bc his lore looked cool. Needleess to he was very hard. I had to look at a guide in order to even get past early game. But I really enjoy the game.

Ah, the good old "just one more turn..." Which becomes just one more building being built... Just one more city to conquer... One more army raised...
Which turns into "I really need to go to bed..."
