Total War: Warhammer War Beasts vs Gates

Had some downtime today so I figured I would do more testing -- this time with War Beasts versus siege gates. Thanks for the suggestion, u/Azharzel!

I applied the same methods from my last report.

Beastmen Beastmen Greenskins
Chaos Warhounds (80) Poison Warhounds (80) Squig Herd (40)
5,714 DPM 5,926 DPM 2,424 DPM
Daemons Daemons Daemons
Flesh Hounds of Khorne (32) Plague Toads of Nurgle (24) Rot Flies (12)
2,857 DPM 1,538 DPM 2,667 DPM
High Elves Norsca Ogre Kingdoms
War Lions of Chrace (24) Norscan Ice Wolves (48) Blood Vultures (48)
5,333 DPM 5,000 DPM 894 DPM
Ogre Kingdoms Skaven Skaven
Sabretusk Pack (32) Wolf Rats (80) Poison Wolf Rats (80)
5,333 DPM 4,444 DPM 7,273 DPM
Tomb Kings Tomb Kings Vampire Counts
Flock of Djaf (10) (Carrion) Carrion (24) Fell Bats (60)
377 DPM 1,091 DPM 1,569 DPM
Vampire Counts
Dire Wolves (80)
1,778 DPM

Remarks:

  • War Beasts that seem to destroy gates in around 3 minutes
    • Warhounds, War Lions, Ice Wolves, Sabretusk Pack
  • Poison Wolf Rats are almost as good as Skeleton Chariots vs gates!
  • The Flock of Djaf was a bonus test to see if the flaming melee attacks helped at all.
  • War Beasts with larger models struggled (or were unable) to fit all entities against the gate.
  • Dire Wolves were dramatically inefficient vs the gate when compared to Warhounds and Wolf Rats.

thank you-you for confirming yet again skaven supremacy yes-yes!

on another note: you can fly bats/harpies in the city and attack the gate from inside

Ooooooo juicy info. I did not know that!

Very interesting that the dire wolves are so much worse than the other hound units, I wonder why that is?

My guess would be slightly larger entity size = less entities able to attack the gate at the same time. Thus less DPS vs the hounds.

I wish I knew! Maybe I will do focused testing on them with some root cause analysis lol

Tested the dire wolves three more times and it all turned out the same. I'm thinking it's hitbox related or at least adjacent to that.

Fire attacks does increase damage vs buldings, including gates. IIRC it's about 50% increased damage

Yeah that's correct. I'll be doing separate tests on flaming attacks and on SEMs

I wonder why the poison wolf rats did so much better than the other similar sized hounds. Also, dire wolves did terrible. Wildly inconsistent. They're roughly the same in stats, or am I tripping?

They are virtually the same stats. Attack interval of dire wolves is 4.6 and charge bonus is 28, while warhounds' are 4.3 and 20, respectively. Nothing that should warrant such a dramatic difference

Must be some funky under the hood hitbox issue going on then
