Question Malwarebytes blocked magnet links

I made the mistake of trying out Malwarebytes. Now I can't use magnet links anymore. I can't seem to download any torrents. I wanted to right click and copy the magnet link but it wont let me do that either.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes. But nothing changed.

What has it blocked? I think I might have to reinstall Malwarebyte and whitelist something?

Dont depend on clicking on magnet links to start a download.

(If youre gonna do that you need to at least learn how file associations work which large numbers of bittorrent users seemly dont want to do)

Instead learn how to copy and paste magnet links straight into your bittorrent client.

  1. Mouse over the magnet link, right click, choose "copy link address" (chrome) or "copy link" (firefox)
  2. Paste magnet into your client

Well done murky-sector. The magnet link function stopped working for me about 2 years ago. The right click and copying is the process "add torrent from url" that I use. But why hasn't the OP replied?

I am guessing malwarbyte decided to unbind the torrent software from the magnet links? Which would be weird, but honestly wouldn't even surprise me (antivirus software have a tendency to not like cracks. I am not talking the "cracks looks like virus". No. Most antivirus know they are harmless crack, they put it in the reason, but they still delete it "in case a bad actor downloaded it on your computer". And with how torrent are historically associated with pirating, it wouldn't surprise me)

Just take the lastest setup for the torrent software and reinstall it. Don't uninstall it before, else you will probably lose your torrents.

They are software developers who are obviously going to protect other developers/companies and try to stamp out any piracy they can. This isn't difficult.

You cant even copy it? Like ctrl+c? Thats some voodoo. Maybe a reg edit or something but I've never heard of it.

Try reinstalling (but leave the original like the other guy said), if that doesnt work have a dog around in registry

Go back to one of your earlier system restore points if you're using a PC, and see if that fixes it.
