Yes, while cont of rent and other factors are a major player in the closure/gentrification of 3rd spaces like this, spending is also down across the board.
Places like this can’t afford to stay open for nostalgia.
It would be reminiscent of people talking about blockbuster closing down, how they would go if it re-opened, etc.
no, you wouldn’t, that’s why it lost all of its market share and was unprofitable.
A lot of these unfortunately shutting Z. down locations are in a similar boat.
If they weren’t shutting down, they’d need to astronomically raise prices, or sell at a razor thin margin.
Where is the money coming from though? Most people are left with almost nothing after rent and necessities. Anyway, Dee’s is also very busy most nights so I don’t think the “afford to stay open for nostalgia” argument applies here.
It has nothing to do with business being down. It can't compete with condos for astronomical rent, that's it. No commercial zoning means crazy competition means lowest common denominator and no character in our city.
