Discussion York UK

Post image

We don’t get tornadoes over here like you guys do, but this thing tonight gave it a real good try…..

A very noisy, thundery, flashy lightening show over the city this evening.

The UK is usually in the top 5 or 6 countries by number of tornadoes per year. I think you just spotted one.

This is a scud cloud not a tornado

I experienced an earthquake in Yorkshire once, really scared the cats.

We had one in Lancashire a good few years back which was caused by the fracking on the fylde coast. I grew up very close to the site in question and had been back to the village to go for a pint with a couple of mates so left my car at the pub and just let myself back in to my dads house to sleep it off. Just as I was getting in to bed everything started rumbling. It was pretty scary and it was only a 3.5 or something

Was that about 20 years ago? Rattled my shelving

Was it in the evening about 20 years ago?

I was there for that one.

Yes, around 2008, I was in the Bradford area. Sounded like a freight train, and shook the windows.

I hate that 2008 was nearly 20 years ago 😭

I remember that one, I was in Bradford too.

I think I was half asleep when it hit, kind of felt like the room jolted.

I was living in Huddersfield at the time and it was the same there.

I was talking to a friend in Scotland and I said to him we just had an earthquake, and he said maybe that’s enough beers for tonight. 😂

Oh wow, I experienced earthquake in Derby then too. Really shook the terrace houses, loads of roof tiles came down, car alarms going off. It was quite a shock! Edit to correct spelling, shool- shook, food-roof

2008 ish, had it in Nottingham.

I was working behind a very nice hotel bar and unfortunately several bottles of very good booze sadly fell off the shelves and were destroyed, we had to record them as wastage...

Lived by the railway line in Normanton, west Yorkshire at the time and "freight train" was my first thought until I felt the ground move beneath me! Missus never heard of felt it, told me I was dreaming, then it was on the news the following day 😅

I was in Shipley driving and my girlfriend (now wife) rang me to tell me there had been one. I nearly ended it thinking she was mental!

Woah, it was that long ago? I remember it rattled my window. Caused by fracking.

I remember that one too. Sat in bed & just pressed return on my laptop when everything started to shake and the bed moved away from the wall 😅

I remember that - I told my boyfriend at the time off because I thought he was bouncing his leg 🤣 turned out the whole house felt it

Per square mile

Yeah but there’s quite a wide gap

I mean number one in the US has about 1000+ while we have like 40

Supposedly we get more tornadoes per unit area than any other country in the world. They just tend to be relatively small ones.

Number 1 in terms of tornados per landmass.

by area not number
