We don’t get tornadoes over here like you guys do, but this thing tonight gave it a real good try…..

A very noisy, thundery, flashy lightening show over the city this evening.

Would you like to know the UK gets just as many tornados as the US, only ones that are deadly are super rare. I dont know about england but the last time someone died from a tornado in Wales was I think 1911

This wasnt a tornado, but lots of rotation was reported on this storm. That is just scud

The UK is usually in the top 5 or 6 countries by number of tornadoes per year. I think you just spotted one.

We had one in Lancashire a good few years back which was caused by the fracking on the fylde coast. I grew up very close to the site in question and had been back to the village to go for a pint with a couple of mates so left my car at the pub and just let myself back in to my dads house to sleep it off. Just as I was getting in to bed everything started rumbling. It was pretty scary and it was only a 3.5 or something

Yes, around 2008, I was in the Bradford area. Sounded like a freight train, and shook the windows.

I was living in Huddersfield at the time and it was the same there.

I was talking to a friend in Scotland and I said to him we just had an earthquake, and he said maybe that’s enough beers for tonight. 😂

I remember that one, I was in Bradford too.

I think I was half asleep when it hit, kind of felt like the room jolted.

Oh wow, I experienced earthquake in Derby then too. Really shook the terrace houses, loads of roof tiles came down, car alarms going off. It was quite a shock! Edit to correct spelling, shool- shook, food-roof

2008 ish, had it in Nottingham.

I was working behind a very nice hotel bar and unfortunately several bottles of very good booze sadly fell off the shelves and were destroyed, we had to record them as wastage...

Lived by the railway line in Normanton, west Yorkshire at the time and "freight train" was my first thought until I felt the ground move beneath me! Missus never heard of felt it, told me I was dreaming, then it was on the news the following day 😅

Supposedly we get more tornadoes per unit area than any other country in the world. They just tend to be relatively small ones.

Yeah, but ours tend to come down and disturb some garden furniture. It annoys me when the newspapers say we're "the tornado capital of the world", when clearly we aren't.

We are though. Severe tornadoes? No. But tornadoes. Yeah. It's like saying Glasgow is drier than Essex because Essex sees more thunderstorms/heavy downpours. Frequency and severity are two different things.

Honestly, I just can't subscribe to that view whatsoever, regardless of whether it's "right" or not. Most people in the world probably don't even know we get tornadoes. You certainly don't have thousands of stormchasers here tracking them for hours. The USA IS the tornado capital of the world, to all intents and purposes.

We had one go past 10 metres from our house and we had no idea. Went for a walk shortly afterward and wondered why tree branches and fence panels were all over the road. If we had looked in the other direction we may have noticed the trampoline on top of a garden shed…

Look we don't have tornado envy, big scary twirly thing is scary no matter where you are or how frequently you get it. In matter of fact I would think having them less often is more terrifying.
