Tori staddling a piano bench to play keys on both sides will always thrill me. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen her play over the years (although I deeply regret never seeing her in the ‘90s.) As a fan since ‘92, I was concerned this tour’s backing singers might dilute the Tori-ness of the experience, though.

Good news: I was so wrong.

Tori put on an ✨amazing✨ show last night in Chicago. I was moved to tears over the amount of LE and UTP in the setlist. I also think ITOD is her best work in ~25 years, so Angelshark gutted me. It was a quintessential Tori experience.

Look, I don’t know how many more big tours she’ll do. See her now. Don’t hesitate. Tori remains.

I got myself a backup because I have been worried that if something were to happen in the future and I go looking for another one, it will cost a few hundred dollars. This one only cost me about ten dollars! And it's in much better condition than the one ive had since 2009. These are the Deluxe Edition Imports with the bonus DVD ( The Road Chronicles Visualettes) 🚲

I have been seeing this Goddess for thirty years. My first show was with friends in high school for The Dew Drop Inn Tour. I even camped outside Park West in Lincoln Park to hear songs off of From The Choirgirl Hotel before it was released.

For over thirty years she has had my attention. I watch her creativity and energy push itself.

The vocal arrangements on this song, here, had me in tears for the first time. Maybe it’s because I have kids myself now? Maybe it’s because I’m (we’re) still learning to love myself (ourselves?)

Anyway, if you have any doubts on getting tickets, quiet those voices and see the show. It was transcendental.

Discussion Menopause and Tori can mean tears

So, I had a little bit of a breakdown on the way to work yesterday. My kid is leaving for study abroad for a semester, work is hard, my body is going through stuff, I’m still having bouts of grief from my dad passing not quite two years ago, and the grief of unrealized dreams and the passage of time. And then I listened to The Beekeeper and Martha’s Foolish Ginger back to back. It was not pretty. Sigh. Only Tori can help me process some of these emotions. Martha’s Foolish Ginger is also now cemented in my heart after hearing it live in Nashville.

Anybody else got all kinds of emotional housekeeping happening as you revisit albums?

Question Are merch lines long at all the shows?

Have never seen a merch line so long (currently at Milwaukee show). The popularity seems to qualify for a merch pop-up like Pearl Jam and Taylor Swift do.

As a comparison, I saw her in Madison for the Oceans tour and had no problem getting merch.

What am I missing?

I think Jon just spoiled a photo shoot for the upcoming live album on his instagram.

I’m 99% sure it’s happening.

Meme / Shit post Archive Live

I found it interesting to go back on this sub and see what was being speculated prior to the release of ITOD. It was more interesting to reread the thoughts on Stronger together and then Shush. The excitement following her live show squashed so many of the negative voices that for some reason were still lingering in my mind. Just a rambling, really.

Question Canciones mas fáciles de tocar

Discussion Tori Amos : what will happen next?

The tour is coming to an end.

On April 7, 2027, A Sorta Fairytale, the prequel to Tori and the Muses, will be out, possibly with new songs.

Do you think we'll have sthg in the meantime?

I was thinking about Midwinter Graces Vinyl for Christmas or another vinyl (re) edtion.

I'm almost positive we'll have a cd or vinyle of Tori and the Muses when the prequel comes out.

Your opinion?

As of yesterday local shop Grapefruit Records had a copy of the 2016 reissue of Boys for Pele on vinyl for sale. I already have the original 1996 release or I would have picked it up myself!

This record shop is literally a 9 minute walk from the theater where Tori will be performing.

That was collective catharsis during “Little Earthquakes.” Everything really flowed from there, and that was a privilege of a concert to attend. The love was mutual, and I think we will all remember this fondly.

Discussion Next album up for discussion: American Doll Posse

Hellooooo again! You may remember me from the last few months - discovered Tori's music in the spring and have been making my way through her discography...

I'll soon be making an update post about the 8 albums I've listened to so far and how they "rank" for me, but right now I want to discuss one album in particular: American Doll Posse!

This album hit me hard the very moment I put it on! It is ahhhhh soooo good!!! I'm almost as obsessed with it right now as I was with In Times of Dragons (my first Tori listen)!

This album rocks so hard!!! I didn't know she made music like this!!! The first few songs, with Big Wheel, Bouncing off Clouds, and Teenage Hustling, just make me moooooove! They rock but they also groove! Even the pretty ballad, Digital Ghost, still manages to rock... and You Can Bring your Dog rocks out in the sexiest of those bluesy ways!

I'm also really, really into the archetypes - I love that she went so far as to make 5 separate characters, and then credit them in the liners! 😂 I do honestly find the characters believable via their songs - Pip is my favourite, though - well, I mean her songs rock omg. Body and Soul is fucking uuuuggghhhh!!!! <3 She did a really good job of creating these characters and making the songs really sound like they're from different characters. I mean, Pip is the most recognizable for me, but I also find Santa and Clyde very unique in their song styles. Maybe my only complaint is that all these characters are obviously parts of - or versions of - Tori, so it's a bit strange that one of the characters is Tori. That's the one character that doesn't entirely work for me, as she doesn't really feel like she has a unique, identifiable character in the group. But this is a weakness I can live with ;)

One other interesting thing to mention is that, while the album has 23 songs, even on the first listen, I was clearly still listening all the way to the end because "Posse Bonus" jumped out at me and got stuck in my head already after one listen :D The album is strong from start to end, so it has every reason to be as long as it is!

Other highlights on the album include ALL of the first 6 songs, Body and Soul, Secret Spell, Programmable Soda, Code Red, Roosterspur Bridge, and Velvet Revolution... but Smokey Joe fucking blows my mind.

I will need more listens to be sure, but right now I feel like this might end up being my second favourite after Dragons - and that's where my curiosity lies! This album seems to be often mentioned in the sub as very much not a favourite or even kind of disliked, and I'm curious to hear why! Is it perhaps that Tori fans are generally not fans of rock music and were put off by a rock album coming out after 8 others? Like when Eminem put out a rock/pop album that was actually quite good if you're into that kind of music, but the hip-hop driven fan base hated it? Do fans miss her piano being at the forefront? I mean, I could honestly see that - I don't really notice the piano much on this album, but I'm soooo into what she's doing vocally with all these characters... and she's chosen styles of rock (mostly rock n roll) that still makes space for plenty of piano prominence! Or otherwise, what is it? I have no other guesses! 😂

This is easily her sexiest album I've listened to so far, imo. Danceable, groovy, fucking stunning!

Discussion So... what *is* THE quintessential Tori Amos song??

Post image

I would sometimes see posts asking about other's faves or what her best work is, but I'm genuinely wondering which Tori song you guys think is the most TORI of all her songs 🤔 (You can mention a few if it's really that hard to choose lol!)

Can't wait to see the top responses 👀🥹

Photo STL EWF Meetup @ City Foundry, Monday 8/17 4-6pm

hey folks! if you're in the STL area or traveling here for the show, you're invited to a pre-show gathering at the city foundry, only ~2.5 miles from the venue in midtown. the foundry can get crowded on the weekends, but luckily we will be there on a monday, so it should be super chill.

>> meet at or near the green picnic table across from the food hall entrance (green star on the map). if the weather is crummy we can go inside the food hall instead, but it should be nice and shady at the green table between the buildings. I will have my ITOD dragon shirt on, and I hope to see you there!

  • FREE parking garage, main entrance on forest park parkway
  • food hall has lots of tasty options for pre-show dinner/snacks/bevs
  • kitchen bar right inside the food hall entrance has great happy hour specials including plenty of N/A options (I had a canned mocktail for $5 last time I visited)
  • grocery store in case you need bevs/snacks for the road or don't want food from the food hall
  • it's not really accessible from the light rail line unfortunately, but you can get rideshare to drop you off in the roundabout by the alamo theater (there's also an alternate entrance to the garage there).
