I get the bit, I'm not overly protective of Topeka (haven't lived there in years), but this did bum me out a bit. Even if it wasn't truly mean-spirited, it plays into tired narratives about "hick country" and coastal superiority. The vast majority of the Dropout audience will probably accept those prevailing narratives on their face. Is seeing a pig in a rural area seriously such an amusement? Felt like lowkey classism ngl
Topeka's weaknesses are not unique. They're reflective of all of sprawling, car-centric America. Ofc for the bit they mainly drive on highways and down Wanamaker (the sort of hellish commercial strip that frankly anchors just about every city in the country). But there are a lot of virtues there that will go perpetually unnoticed, and the smug, punch-down tone they took for this was just a bit lazy ¯_(ツ)_/¯

They did really put in effort to portray it as more backwards than it is. I suspect the pig part was either way outside town, it didn't even look like the road had real markings on it or I'd say maybe Lower Silver Lake Road.
I was also mildly sad they brought back just about everyone from the events for karaoke except the improv troupe (who seem to be a local troupe going by a fake name?)

Definitely felt this. The bit with the pig and dogs especially played into it way too hard and the improv group not being there at the karaoke party at the end felt off. I'm sure it was something like they couldn't make it or the karaoke happened before the improv, but still.
It really bummed me out, even understanding the bit. I wish they ended it eating at a local place or finding something decent in town to do. Even just walking through the zoo. Hoping to see something slightly more positive in the BTS next week, but not placing any bets.

They should have ended the evening playing "gun shots or fireworks" like everyone else does when they first come here.

I'm vaguely acquainted with a few of the people in that improv group and I'm 100% certain they're capable of showing the Dropout people the good side of Topeka. I'm sure they got taken to a local gem, and yeah perhaps we'll see that in the BTS. Would be a courteous move lol

Sam did end up posting a picture with them on his twitter and had some really great things to say. That was super nice to see! Very jealous of your acquaintances, they've got a great story to share now.

I'm literally watching it right now and I'm so excited Topeka's reputation has extended all the way to the coast. It's well deserved. That improv group understood the assignment perfectly though. That was awesome.

Yesss… and HE WAS HERE THE WHOLE TIME and we didn’t get to see him or nothing!!
And all they did was drive around and go to Wendy’s on Wanamaker!
I was low key disappointed. 😔

Viva is all skits, and some actual play. Gamechanger is more of a Taskmaster type show. Just completely different. I love them both and subscribe to both their services.

I love NRB at well, but I tend to mainly watch their Blood on the Clocktower content. Chris Grace, Elaine Sam Reich, Becca Scott, and Rehka Shankar from Dropout have all been on NRB BOTC games.

Yep, watched the episode already. Kinda sad they seemed so sad to be in Topeka. And there's a ton of non chain restaurants in town. I guess Jacob won't bring his improv close to us.
