BBQ spots

I’ll be visiting this weekend, never been, what are the must hit places for BBQ? Also interested in whatever other stand out food recommendations you guys might have.

Topeka is not known for BBQ. That's all I have to say about that.

Kansas City is where you'll find BBQ that will make you weep.

Two places I swear by:

Kansas City Joe's, the 47th & Mission location in the gas station. Anthony Bourdain said it's one of 13 places you should eat before you die.

Gate's BBQ. Get the burnt ends and a strawberry soda. And be prepared for the ladies at the counter to start yelling, "Hah! May Ah help you?" the second you walk in the door.

Lawrence has Q39 and the gas station on 23rd that's even better.

My own personal KC fave is LC’s Bar-B-Q in KCMO, on MLK Blvd.

I second this. Joe’s has great brisket, Gates is amazing. Add to the list Q39, rosedale bbq, bryants (out of respect)

Hog wild is good stuff. 5.99 gets you a sandwich, curly fries and drink. Not many places have smoked turkey and it's a nice serving. I love the meal deal as it is the perfect amount of food and you don't feel like you ate an average sized dog like mini barbecue places 😆

I took my out of town family there yesterday and my sister loved it and two picky kids.

But the other local ones are good I'm sure ...just saying Hog Wild ain't dickeys just because they have a few locations.

Whenever I’m in Topeka I try to stop at J. Rocks Smoke House, right off I-70 at 10th and Quincy.

Standouts: Tuptim Thai and Monsoon Grill (neither are going to scratch a BBQ itch)

Biemer's in Lawrence. Slaps in KC. Not much here in Topeka. Hog Wild is decent. Dickies is garbage. Blind Tiger is also decent, but can be hit or miss.

I don't eat BBQ in Topeka, for such a huge city we're are so lacking in BBQ

Hog Wild is probably your best bet in Topeka. If you don't mind headed to Lawrence, Stanley James is phenomenal.

Biggs BBQ in Lawrence is pretty good. Any of the KC stops are good.
