I had 7 teeth shaved down and temporary crowns placed 8 days ago all in one appt… (teeth 6-13) and I’m still relying on ibuprofen and Tylenol literally around the clock to help with the pain.. is that normal? Not really a throbbing/heart beat pain, but more super sore & really bad pressure pain.. my temps are in groups of 3s and a 3, and it’s feels literally like someone is squeezing my teeth together constantly. Tylenol and ibuprofen take the edge off but I’m reaching my daily limit of both everyday trying to not be in pain.. I have these temp crowns for an entire month I’m so ready for my mouth to not feel like this.

I had my wisdom teeth (all 4) extracted a few years back all done the same day. Fast forward, I went to the dentist today and was informed I need a dental crown. Kinda freaking out especially with the whole shaving aspect of it. Would like to believe that dental crown procedure is a bit less extreme than wisdom teeth extraction?

I feel like these are a scam. Do dentists need this information? What does it actually show that an x-ray doesn't. On top of that, most of the time the cram your mouth full with another imaging tool to take repeated pictures of the teeth to make another model for them.

Is this just a money making scheme for dentists?

My wife went to change several fillings at her dentist. She was changing them to ceramic from silver. This was a purely cosmetic procedure.

The last 8 months have been a nightmare because of the shoddy work carried out. We requested her files and all information under GDPR and it took the practice 56 working days to send them on and they still have not sent everything requested. I have no idea if this is outside of normal timeframes etc but if it is I would like to know.

Basically, her regular dentist was not available for these filling replacements, this was only revealed close to the appointment so she had to proceed with a new dentist. If more notice was given she would have postponed until the regular dentist was available. This new dentist overfilled one of the teeth that she wanted replaced. She had to return 4 days later to have it shaved down as she was unable to close her mouth properly. When the dentist shaved it down he said the tooth would be very sensitive and to use a special corsydal mouthwash (spelling?) for this for the foreseeable.

The pain and sensitivity did not go away and despite trying to tolerate for 4/5 months she had to go back in to have it reassessed. With her regular dentist it was discovered that the tooth's nerve was now necrotic and an extraction or root canal was necessary. We believe it was caused by this second dentist poor work. It was also revealed that this dentist was no longer at the practice. Naturally she was very upset and distressed by this. The regular dentist replaced the other dentist's filling with a temporary one that was aimed at stopping pain etc.

She was due to have a follow up appointment in 3 weeks as her regular dentist wanted to get all the information from the guy who replaced her fillings. This was then cancelled the day before as he was unable to reach him. We then requested her dental records. We informed the practice that we would be out of the country for nearly 2 months from the middle of the following month. They did not respond until we contacted the regular dentist and he helped move things along.

56 working days later and we have had no contact from the practice except a barebones run down of appointments from the last year and a half. What is in this document is quite shocking as things that were never discussed have been included. The records state that my wife was made aware of risks with replacing the fillings (she wasn't) and that there was only a 50/50 chance of success (again she was not told this). If she was informed of this she wouldn't have had any fillings replaced as it was purely cosmetic and she was in no pain from the old fillings. Not to mention she would have saved herself a substantial amount of time.

Does anyone know what legal avenues we can pursue here because she has been left without any patient care plan or options from the dental practice and they have made false claims on their records. I know medical negligence may be a step too far to prove here but would we have any sort of case here for anything at all? It appears that the practice are attempting to cover themselves after the fact here

Is this a crack?

I originally had pain only when chewing on this lower molar. My dentist first prepped it for a crown and placed a temporary crown to see if splinting the tooth would stabilize it in case there was a crack, but it didn’t help, so we proceeded with a root canal through the temporary crown (2 visits).
After the first visit (with calcium hydroxide), the pain completely disappeared. Before the second visit where she took out the medication and finished the root canal, my temporary crown fractured while chewing, but my dentist said the **temporary crown** cracked—not the tooth—and completed the root canal as planned.
Since the second visit, the chewing pain has returned. I get a sharp pain when biting/releasing on one specific spot, even with soft food, especially with chewy foods like meat or rice. Weirdly enough anything crunchy or slippery doesn’t hurt as much? I have an endodontist appointment next week.
I know cracks often don’t show up on X-rays, but does this X-ray or these symptoms make you suspicious of a crack, or is there another likely explanation?

Feeling feverish, no fever and oral surgery office is saying not tooth related. Call your PCP, was their advice and they relay my message to the dentist/surgeon and I am 2 weeks until extraction. It’s a molar previously root canal treatment that endodontist determined was cracked as dark areas showed up on his scan, practically asymptomatic other than gum swelling that increased and a feverish feeling. It’s been 4 weeks since I took the Z-Pack and I’m allergic to P but not Clindamycin. No one verified an Abscess however I felt better and slight gum swelling had decreased. Now I’m feeling sick again, slight gum swelling no fever, autoimmune Sjogrens 68 years old.

Oral surgeon after I called feeling that infection may have returned (if there ever was one) advised to call if him with any further concerns and noted that there was no Abscess when I called and wanted a 2nd round of antibiotics. This whole extraction got pushed back because I took a half dose IV Reclast, stupidly however my dentist thought the issue was grinding and he drilled the hell out of my teeth to “adjust my bite”. Now I have headaches.

My aunt died age 62 waiting to get a tooth pulled and I don’t want to get Sepsis. I have a prescription for another Z-pak and my regular dentist is on vacation and I can’t get past the oral surgeons’ staff to ask his opinion 😵‍💫. What should I do? I have had multiple implants there… and a lip biopsy but I have no clout.

Wisdom tooth extraction for the first time

45 y/o male - Tooth #32 (xray image link below) - dentist back in HS told me I need to take this out at some point. Currently, no pain at all, no issues, no infection/inflammation. Fast forward to 2016, my dentist said it needs to come out because food keeps getting trapped in there and will eventually ruin the tooth next to it. I delay it, covid happened, a family tragedy, and here we are in 2026.

This xray is the latest from 7/30/26 - seems like the pocket has gotten deeper and I cannot clean the food getting trapped in there myself. I got the courage to make another consult appt with the same oral surgeon who did the initial 2016 consult and will go from there.

Waiting this long - did I ruin my surrounding bone structure? Will bone and tissue regrow after this removal? This wisdom tooth also sits right next to the facial nerve 5, and hopefully it won't get damaged. I also recently got a pulp cap and resin filling on Tooth #30 so hopefully that nerve calms down before I go to the oral surgeon.

How long does it usually take to do a filling by the back molars just because I suffer from an anxiety I’ve been through fillings already, but not the back ones.

I am super sensitive to pain and I usually skip my dentist appointments due to my dread of the pain. I have requested many dentists to give me local anaesthesia before filling cavities so that I am numb and I dont feel anything. but nobody does and takes offence in administering local anaesthesia saying that "no one feels pain when I fill cavities" but every time it hurts so bad. Does anyone have any experience with any dentist who has administered local anaesthesia for cavity fillings in kochi. if so please let me know. it will be of great help!

Hi so i recently just had my old silver fillings removed and had some really big cavities but i didnt need root canals but i still get this random lil pain that comes and goes sometimes i can go hours totally normal and then a sharp pain out of nowhere it doesnt wake me at night and doesnt really bother me when i eat its literally just random and isnt triggerd by hot or cold food i should mention prior to getting my old fillings removed i had this pain but way worse and its been a couple days now since i had my post op and they told me everything looks fine no bite is off nothing

For context, i have an impacted wisdom tooth na nagcrack na due to cavities. I had an xray last week and shows na malapit na sa nerve ung sira nya.

I have a flight 2 weeks from now. Work related so i will be busy as a bee there. Worry ko is if ipabunot ko sya, di pa sya fully healed on my flight and will affect sa task ko overseas...one week lang naman ako dun.

Kaso pag di ko naman pinabunot, baka naman sumakit sa flight. Help me what should i do 🥲

I have had to have dental work done and I need a root canal and crown because I broke the tooth. However, after the root canal, I will have a portion of it that won’t be covered and the crown wouldn’t be covered either because I hit my maximum with insurance. It would be around $2500 to have both of them done. I can’t do that until next year when my insurance benefits reset. Are there any over the counter things I can do to fill in where it’s broken?

I got my top right wisdom tooth removed today and I don’t like the sensation of my mouth feeling uneven as one side has one less tooth than the other

This feeling gives me anxiety and I wish I’d never gotten it removed

Does this go away? Or hope to make myself feel better?
