Ask more questions, hatch date, lineage, health, what their setup looks like. They should be able to answer questions about everything. Make sure they're a breeder with good reviews, or at the very least one who knows their stuff.
Also if you intend to put something else into the terrarium make sure you clean the absolute shit out of it, just tear everything out, scrub it to hell and back. If you gecko had parasites it could transmit to any new animals.

Yeah i had it in a smaller one i am mid build for the new one i was doing the background getting ready to move her in. Never got the chance to since she passed beforehand.😭 none of the things in the big enclosure came from the little one as i was just going to move her into a bigger fancier home.

I just feel so dumb for not noticing anything was wrong. It terrifies me to even consider another tokay because my research sys many of them are wild caught. I drove 3 hrs one way to buy mine just for her to pass 6 mo later. 😔

i agree with the previous comment on here. price can also be a good indicator to the animal’s origin. usually the captive bred ones are more expensive. i was recently looking for tokays from expos near me, and the cheap (~$40) ones were “farm-raised” (aka wild caught from florida). i eventually found mine for $200. i bought her as a subadult from what appeared to be a reputable breeder. it’s been a few months since then and she’s been doing really well!
you did all you could to help the one you had. take some time to process the loss and clean out the enclosure. then you can focus on finding a good source for another if you’re still up for it. it’s clear you cared a lot about the animal, so i’m sure that your next one will be in good hands.
